This study focuses on the notion of power as a way of conceptualisation, representation and functioning in the Russian and English-speaking media discourse and its role in the life of the younger generation of the third millennium. Power and its language have always remained an actual research question of interdisciplinary scientific analysis. However, studying young people’s linguistic and paralinguistic perception of power in the era of digitalisation becomes extremely important due to an empowering role young adults have started playing in modern society employing new media and their discursive communication there. The study regards the theoretical background of the phenomenon of power, based on A. Gramsci’s hegemonic approach. The authors of the research suggest that the media discourse is a hegemonic form of power that maintains its position through the elaboration of a particular worldview, which makes a significant impact on young individuals, the so-called net-generation. The study relies on free-associative and graphic experiments to analyse and perceive “power” concept and its influence on young individuals’ consciousness. Results indicate that both Russian and English-speaking media discourse represents “power” through the prism of anthroponyms as well as toponyms. Besides, the findings of the free-associative experiment, conducted among young adults, demonstrated the dominance of the lexical units belonging to the same grammatical class of words as the stimulus word “power”. Furthermore, a graphic experiment revealed young people’s emotional evaluations of power in media discourse communication. As such, the results suggest that “power” is a natural, complex and multifaceted linguacultural and social phenomenon realised through a variety of linguistic and paralinguistic means, and it produces a dualistic effect on young people’s consciousness through their interaction in the media discourse space.

This paper aims to explain the phenomenon of disinformation and its impact. Furthermore, it aims to point out the magnitude and seriousness of the problem, as well as the importance of joint action of all social structures in solving it. The design, production, and dissemination (mainly orally) of untrue and inaccurate information and news for various purposes have been recorded since ancient times. After the invention of the printing machine, their continuous reproduction and distribution began in written form, which also enabled them to have a stronger impact, longer duration, and greater reach. Thanks to the development of the media, especially the mass media such as newspapers, radio, and television, information and news spread faster, more easily and farther, but at the same time, disinformation began to appear in the public sphere more often. Due to the strong development of technology and the emergence of new digital media, primarily the Internet, social networks, and communication platforms, as global communication phenomena, this problem has reached worrying, and often dangerous, levels in the current digital age and the new media system. According to recent indicators and research, the situation is deteriorating. Although the number of papers and the amount of research on this topic has significantly increased in Europe and the world in recent years, it is a complex issue which is still not sufficiently addressed in the scientific discourse. Therefore, this paper attempts to provide a clear insight into the definitions and characteristics of disinformation, as a concept that was officially adopted at the European Union level, for the purpose of denoting the phenomenon, along with related and similar terms such as fake news, misinformation, malinformation, information disorder, information pollution, alternative facts and others. This is done by including the appropriate theoretical background and the results of a series of relevant previous research studies in order to briefly present the historical development and known cases of disinformation, as well as the causes, reasons, consequences, and the most sensitive spheres of their production and dissemination in modern society. The methods for recognizing, preventing, and combating disinformation established thus far are also presented. In addition, new measures for their suppression are also proposed.

New information and communication technologies are an inherent part of the contemporary man’s living space. Since their very beginning, the media have always, to a lesser or greater extent, determined the functioning of individuals. Today, however, due to unlimited access, impressive growth of the media market and human creativity in the area of new technological developments, the involvement of mass media in people’s lives is taking on a new, unprecedented dimension. Such a state of affairs was envisaged as early as in the middle of the last century by, among others, M. McLuhan, who wrote that “the new media will transform us entirely: nothing will remain unchanged, untouched”, or J. Baurdrillard, who speculated at the time that media would become the life itself. Nowadays, these speculations are taking on a real form, especially as regards the net generation, which is an audience strongly dominated by the impact of the media for a simple reason, i.e. because its representatives — contemporary children and young people, unlike adults, were born and have been growing up in the digital world. Thus, the article is an attempt to present opportunities, challenges and threats involving widespread use of the latest technologies by digital natives. The authors show consequences of the phenomenon in the social, cultural, educational and security dimensions through references to the Polish and foreign literature, focusing on ambivalent implications of changes in the net generation’s way of thinking, communicating, collecting information and learning. Moreover, the article gives examples of juvenile perpetrators of attacks who were strongly linked with the virtual world prior to committing their crimes.

Purpose. Today, new media play a crucial role in legitimating political relations. Theoretical background of the current research draws on the social cognitive approach to discourse studies. From this perspective, legitimization is understood as one of the major ways of establishing social dominance in the process of meaning negotiation. As the meanings in discourse can vary, discourse actors have tools to attribute components of meaning to specific affairs, for instance, political and social. An analysis of the news discourse aims to identify major mechanisms of establishing legitimacy of political decisions conducted by political institutions. The authors describe discursive features of constructing political decisions by applying the method of discourse analysis to the news on Venezuelan crisis, which took place in the winter 2018–2019. Results. As the study of the empirical data demonstrates, the British mass media tend to construct discursive representation of Latin America’s events by introducing of several groups of actors in the news on the Venezuelan crisis. Generally, these groups relate to socio-political hierarchy. They include individual, collective, institutional and international actors. By tracing the elements of their agency in Venezuelan crisis 2019 news, authors assume that their functions in news construction are directly connected to the mechanism of objectivation. Recognizing the informative function of media as one of the major, authors argue that this mechanism also relates to establishing legitimacy in discursive practices. The ways by which the actors of the events in the discourse on Venezuela have been embedded in the articles show the creation of increasingly formed belief in legitimate actions of the new opposition leader. Conclusion. The study contributes to the methods of discourse analysis as well as to the search for legitimization strategies applied by the media. The implications of the study include the comparative analysis of British and Russian new media discourse.

This study aims to understand the convergence of digital media into the reality of peak phenomenon of modern society needs in the present. The popular culture of exploiting new media as a means of monetization obscures the movitation and the purpose of new media itself is created.In the discussion, it will show how the owner of YouTube account Bayu Skak, doing self presentation as a representation of Java community in audio visual works, as well as how monetization runs on the video blogs he created in the media platform YouTube.The researchers concluded that the YouTube Media as one of the popular new media forms clearly offers space for modern society to make money and contribute to capitalism by providing an opportunity for account owners to present himself and work through audio-visual media.

Media culture as the phenomenon occurred simultaneously with media appearance. However, scientists have started talking about the necessity to study media culture in society and its formation only in the late XX century. Media culture obtains the special priority position under conditions of the information society. It is promoted by the accelerated development of communication and digital technologies, the rapid growth in volume, richness and multiformat media consumption by contemporaries. Changes of the technocratic world should be accompanied with development of new media skills and preferences of the individual and society: understanding media flows, analyzing and evaluating information, engaging in dialogue with the media, do not let them manipulate you. The media culture should be the main factor of individuals’ socialization in the information society. The term «media culture» is based on two fundamental concepts, which are «media» and «culture», with many interpretations each. Therefore, the definition of the term remains ambiguous. Media culture is studied in the framework of technological, personal, creative and informational approaches. The determining factor in understanding media culture, in our opinion, becomes an interactive approach that makes possible and effective intercultural dialogue through a global network of communications. The opportunity and focus for dialogue is becoming a key characteristic of media culture. The interaction, mutual relation and correlation of media and book cultures should be considered in the framework of the dialogue approach. The interactive nature of the media culture allows us to hope for preserving and reproducing bookishness in the conditions of the digital media revolution, for its further integration into the new communication environment.

The importance of media education in our present time lies in its supposed role in rationalizing the youth’s use of digital media, as the school is no longer able to continue its knowledge and educational pioneering role in light of the excessive and absurd use of the Internet, just as the teacher is no longer a main source of science and knowledge. Considering the study curricula, addressing the negative impact of the excessive use of digital media on the school, as well as addressing the decline in the role of the family and its withdrawal from educational competition with the school, and thus education has lost the mandate of the school and the family to educate the new generation in favor of the hegemony of the new media authority, which is called metaphorically. Fifth, which overtook all authorities, including the authority of traditional media (the fourth power), so that control over the child went beyond control of his family and parents, and the challenge became before those concerned with education, how can the new media be a source of education, entertainment, education, guidance and direction, and in various methods of influence, By using multiple and amazing techniques that are characterized by transcending the limits of time and space, and according to that the great impact of the new media, we see a decline in public education. Illiteracy and its limited means, as well as retreating and losing its control over the social environment, which calls on researchers to study ways to rationalize media education, enhance human awareness of the media, and give it the largest share in influence and direction, and in social upbringing and raising young and old together.

At present, with the rapid development of society, digital media has become the mainstream of vision. Digital vision makes people form a new reading form of “Super-Attention”. The visual performance of letterpress printing conforms to this new form of visual reading very well. It is different from the tactile feeling of ordinary printing that further packages and shapes the original information and improves the expectation of information interpretation and experience to a high level. At the same time, the manual culture highlighted by letterpress printing is also one of the best means to cushion the tension of inconsistent technology and culture in modern society. We don't know the result of the confrontation between paper and digital media, but letterpress printing in digital society has shown its unique “Paper-Based” feelings. Through detailed analysis of the historical evolution of letterpress printing, the comparison between traditional letterpress printing and modern letterpress printing, this paper presents clearly the development of letterpress printing for readers, so that readers can truly understand this unique traditional process; and then it elaborates on the application of modern letterpress in creative products and the development status quo of modern letterpress at home and abroad. This paper probes into how to popularize the new nirvana letterpress once again, thus providing a set of modern application attempt of letterpress printing - Rejuvenation of Letterpress information visualization design, and from practice, looking for letterpress regeneration after integrating new design ideas in the new media era.

The paper presents results of media monitoring during the election campaigns held in Bulgaria between 2014 and 2019 – after the adoption of the new Electoral Code in 2014 until the last local elections in 2019. The main research question is to what extent the media as mediators in the election campaigns know, respect and comply with the legal regulations concerning their activities during such campaigns. The results outline the models of legal socialization of the Fourth Estate in the election campaigns. They also show patterns of compliance and violation of the legal framework. In addition, they reflect the way in which the media work to change the regulations in question. The research sample included between 117 and 180 media service providers in various election campaigns. There were representatives of all media subfields – traditional media, new media, yellow media, brown media, Prokopiev’s media, Peevski’s media, as well as Russian and American “propaganda media”. The period of research includes almost two full election cycles ‒ two parliamentary elections, two European elections, two local elections, and one presidential election which was held after the clear definition of the legal framework for media in the 2014 Electoral Code. No changes were made to this framework during the study and prior to the publication of this paper. This leads to conclusions regarding the electoral legislation and the regulation of the media system in the electoral process.

The spread of digital media on the internet was very broad, fast, and cannot be monitored in a structured manner about what media has been uploaded and distributed on the internet network. The spread of digital media like this was very difficult to detect whether the media that shared was privately owned or that of others that is re-shared by media theft or digital media piracy. One step to overcome the theft of digital works is to give them a watermark, which is an identity that is placed on top of the work. However, this is still considered unsafe because the identity attached can be cut and manipulated again until it is not visible. In addition, the use of Steganography method to hide messages in an image can still be manipulated by adding messages continuously so that it accumulates and damages the original owner of the image. In this article, the author provides a solution called Digital Watermarking, a step of encrypting the data of the original owner of the work and putting it into the image of his work. This watermark cannot be seen clearly, but actually in the media there is encrypted data with a strong Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) method. As a result, a tool that can improve the security of media owner data by combining the AES and Steganogaphy methods in the formation of new media that cannot be changed anymore. So, when the media is stolen and used by others and has been edited, the owner's personal data can never be changed.

Political economy of the media includes several domains including journalism, broadcasting, advertising, and information and communication technology. A political economy approach analyzes the power relationships between politics, mediation, and economics. First, there is a need to identify the intellectual history of the field, focusing on the establishment and growth of the political economy of media as an academic field. Second is the discussion of the epistemology of the field by emphasizing several major characteristics that differentiate it from other approaches within media and communication research. Third, there needs an understanding of the regulations affecting information and communication technologies (ICTs) and/or the digital media-driven communication environment, especially charting the beginnings of political economy studies of media within the culture industry. In particular, what are the ways political economists develop and use political economy in digital media and the new media milieu driven by platform technologies in the three new areas of digital platforms, big data, and digital labor. These areas are crucial for analysis not only because they are intricately connected, but also because they have become massive, major parts of modern capitalism.
