In many practical applications, it is more convenient to characterize the quality of production processes or service operations throughout the count of nonconformities. In the context of SPC, nonconformities are usually assumed to appear according to the binomial probability model. The conventional way for monitoring nonconformities involves Shewhart-type control procedures based on both constant and time-varying sample sizes. In this article, an EWMA scheme is proposed for monitoring the fraction of nonconforming items with time-varying sample sizes. The proposed control chart is referred to as the EWMAG-B and can be easily adapted to work with a constant sample size by fixing it at a needed value. By means of simulation, it was found out that the EWMAG-B chart outperforms the conventional p control chart in Phase II while detecting changes in the process level is wanted.

Along with the strong development of camera networks, a video analysis system has been become more and more popular and has been applied in various practical applications. In this paper, we focus on person re-identification (person ReID) task that is a crucial step of video analysis systems. The purpose of person ReID is to associate multiple images of a given person when moving in a non-overlapping camera network. Many efforts have been made to person ReID. However, most of studies on person ReID only deal with well-alignment bounding boxes which are detected manually and considered as the perfect inputs for person ReID. In fact, when building a fully automated person ReID system the quality of the two previous steps that are person detection and tracking may have a strong effect on the person ReID performance. The contribution of this paper are two-folds. First, a unified framework for person ReID based on deep learning models is proposed. In this framework, the coupling of a deep neural network for person detection and a deep-learning-based tracking method is used. Besides, features extracted from an improved ResNet architecture are proposed for person representation to achieve a higher ReID accuracy. Second, our self-built dataset is introduced and employed for evaluation of all three steps in the fully automated person ReID framework.

The present study has investigated the channels through which the linkage between economic institutions and growth is gauged, by addressing the main hypothesis of the study that whether quality of governance and democratic institutions set a stage for economic institutions to promote the long-term growth process in Pakistan. To test the hypothesis empirically, our study models the dynamic relationship between growth and economic institutions in a time varying framework in order to capture institutional developments and structural changes occurred in the economy of Pakistan over the years. Study articulates that, along with some customary specifics, the quality of government and democracy are the substantial factors that affect institutional quality and ultimately cause to promote growth in Pakistan. The article presents scientific research in the field of statistical controllability of the food production process using the example of bakery products for a certain time interval using statistical methods of quality management. During quality control of finished products, defects in bakery products were identified, while the initial data were recorded in the developed form of a checklist for registering defects. It has been established that the most common defect is packaging leakage. For the subsequent statistical assessment of the stability of the production process and further analysis of the causes of the identified defect, a Shewhart control chart (p-card by an alternative feature) was used, which allows you to control the quality of manufactured products by the number of defects detected. Analyzing the control chart, it was concluded that studied process is conditionally stable, and the emerging defects are random. At the last stage of the research, the Ishikawa causal diagram was used, developed using the 6M mnemonic technique, in order to identify the most significant causes that affect the occurrence of the considered defect in bakery products. A more detailed study will allow the enterprise to produce food products that meet the established requirements.

Abstract This article discusses the dissipativity analysis of stochastic generalized neural network (NN) models with Markovian jump parameters and time-varying delays. In practical applications, most of the systems are subject to stochastic perturbations. As such, this study takes a class of stochastic NN models into account. To undertake this problem, we first construct an appropriate Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional with more system information. Then, by employing effective integral inequalities, we derive several dissipativity and stability criteria in the form of linear matrix inequalities that can be checked by the MATLAB LMI toolbox. Finally, we also present numerical examples to validate the usefulness of the results.

Automation in the service industry is emerging as a new wave of industrial revolution. Standardization and consistency of service quality is an important part of the automation process. The quality control methods widely used in the manufacturing industry can provide service quality measurement and service process monitoring. In particular, the control chart as an online monitoring technique can be used to quickly detect whether a service process is out of control. However, the control of the service process is more difficult than that of the manufacturing process because the variability of the service process comes from widespread and complex factors. First of all, the distribution of the service process is usually non-normal or unknown. Moreover, the skewness of the process distribution can be time-varying, even if the process is in control. In this study, a Bayesian procedure is applied to construct a Phase II exponential weighted moving average (EWMA) control chart for monitoring the variance of a distribution-free process. We explore the sampling properties of the new monitoring statistic, which is suitable for monitoring the time-varying process distribution. The average run lengths (ARLs) of the proposed Bayesian EWMA variance chart are calculated, and they show that the chart performs well. The simulation studies for a normal process, exponential process, and the mixed process of normal and exponential distribution prove that our chart can quickly detect any shift of a process variance. Finally, a numerical example of bank service time is used to illustrate the application of the proposed Bayesian EWMA variance chart and confirm the performance of the process control.

Abstract Background: Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is in high demand due to its strong evidence base and cost effectiveness. To ensure CBT is delivered as intended in research, training and practice, fidelity assessment is needed. Fidelity is commonly measured by assessors rating treatment sessions, using CBT competence scales (CCSs). Aims: The current review assessed the quality of the literature examining the measurement properties of CCSs and makes recommendations for future research, training and practice. Method: Medline, PsychINFO, Scopus and Web of Science databases were systematically searched to identify relevant peer-reviewed, English language studies from 1980 onwards. Relevant studies were those that were primarily examining the measurement properties of CCSs used to assess adult 1:1 CBT treatment sessions. The quality of studies was assessed using a novel tool created for this study, following which a narrative synthesis is presented. Results: Ten studies met inclusion criteria, most of which were assessed as being ‘fair’ methodological quality, primarily due to small sample sizes. Construct validity and responsiveness definitions were applied inconsistently in the studies, leading to confusion over what was being measured. Conclusions: Although CCSs are widely used, we need to pay careful attention to the quality of research exploring their measurement properties. Consistent definitions of measurement properties, consensus about adequate sample sizes and improved reporting of individual properties are required to ensure the quality of future research.

We study the role of dropout risk in dynamic signaling. A seller privately knows the quality of an indivisible good and decides when to trade. In each period, he may draw a dropout shock that forces him to trade immediately. To avoid costly delay, the seller with a low-quality good voluntarily pools with early dropouts, implying that the expected quality of the good increases over time. We characterize the time-varying equilibrium trading dynamics. It is demonstrated that the maximum equilibrium delay of trade is decreasing in the initial belief that the good is of high quality. In the first part of this series of papers an outline was given of the approach made at the Royal Aircraft Establishment to the problems of estimating collision risk and of specifying the quality of navigation needed to make separation standards safe. It was stressed that estimates should be based on intensive observation of flying errors, rather than on speculative theories, and that it is more feasible to develop ‘upper limit’ estimating techniques than those which purport to give the exact risk. In summary, a list of seven ‘requirements’ was given, as a reminder of the essential principles which can so easily be overlooked in the piecemeal task of relating separation standards to collision risk.The purpose of this paper is to show some of the theoretical techniques which have been developed at R.A.E. to satisfy five of these requirements. (The remaining two do not call for special techniques and will be dealt with when practical applications are described in Part III.) The paper contains three Appendixes, dealing with the frequency of losing separation in one dimension, the computation of P's from the assumed tail shapes, and the treatment of relative errors. This paper presents an approach for retrieval of soil moisture content (SMC) by coupling single polarization C-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and optical data at the plot scale in vegetated areas. The study was carried out at five different sites with dominant vegetation cover located in Kenya. In the initial stage of the process, different features are extracted from single polarization mode (VV polarization) SAR and optical data. Subsequently, proper selection of the relevant features is conducted on the extracted features. An advanced state-of-the-art machine learning regression approach, the support vector regression (SVR) technique, is used to retrieve soil moisture. This paper takes a new look at soil moisture retrieval in vegetated areas considering the needs of practical applications. In this context, we tried to work at the object level instead of the pixel level. Accordingly, a group of pixels (an image object) represents the reality of the land cover at the plot scale. Three approaches, a pixel-based approach, an object-based approach, and a combination of pixel- and object-based approaches, were used to estimate soil moisture. The results show that the combined approach outperforms the other approaches in terms of estimation accuracy (4.94% and 0.89 compared to 6.41% and 0.62 in terms of root mean square error (RMSE) and R2), flexibility on retrieving the level of soil moisture, and better quality of visual representation of the SMC map.

In most statistical process control (SPC) applications, quality of a process or product is monitored by univariate or multivariate control charts. However, sometimes a functional relationship between a response variable and one or more explanatory variables is established and monitored over time. This relationship is called “profile” in SPC literature. In this paper, we specifically consider processes with compositional data responses, including multivariate positive observations summing to one. The relationship between compositional data responses and explanatory variables is modeled by a Dirichlet regression profile. We develop a monitoring procedure based on likelihood ratio test (lrt) for Phase I monitoring of Dirichlet regression profiles. Then, we compare the performance of the proposed method with the best method in the literature in terms of probability of signal. The results of simulation studies show that the proposed control chart has better performance in Phase I monitoring than the competing control chart. Moreover, the proposed method is able to estimate the real time of a change as well. The performance of this feature is also investigated through simulation runs which show the satisfactory performance. Finally, the application of the proposed method is illustrated based on a real case in comparison with the existing method.
