Heptachlor insecticide is a toxic organochlorine insecticide, persistent and bio-cummulative in the environment. Remediation using actived carbon and microbial is a solution to pollution due to pesticide in the environment. The objective of this study was to obtain fertilizer technology using urea with activated carbon and enriched with microbes degrading heptachlor insecticide in order to reduce the insecticide residue in paddy fields. The research was conducted at the Jakenan Experimental Station between February to September 2012. The soil used as the planting medium was brought from the village Sukamenak, District Rawagempol Wetan, Karawang. The experiment was conducted in the field at micro-plot scale with lysimeter, and using a randomized block design (RBD) with 3 replications and 6 fertilizer treatments ( control , prill urea , urea with activated carbon maize cobs ( UAATJ ) , urea with activated carbon coconut shell ( UAATK ) , urea with activated carbon cob corn + microbes ( UAATJM ) , urea with activated carbon coconut shell + microbes ( UAATKM ). The plants used were from Inpari 13 variety. The insecticide residue analysis was performed in the Residu Bahan Agrikimia (RBA) laboratory of Balingtan. The results showed significant orthogonal countrast tests of different treatments. The highest reduction of residual insecticide was observed in urea coated with activated carbon cob corn and enriched with microbial consortia degrading POPs, which was 36.30 %. It is suspected that activated carbon coated cob corn with microbial enrichment was favored as its home and the microbes utilized carbon sources of heptachlor as the food.

Coconut oil in West Kalimantan is still largely a traditional coconut oil because it has not gone through a refining process. To improve the quality of traditional coconut oil, the addition of activated charcoal can be used as an adsorbent so as to improve the quality of coconut oil. Activated charcoal can be made from materials that contain high carbon, one of which is a coconut shell. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adding activated charcoal to improving the quality of traditional coconut oil and the concentration of adding activated charcoal that produced the best characteristics of coconut oil. The research design used was a Randomized Block Design with one factor (coconut shell active charcoal concentration) 6 levels of treatment (0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%) with 4 replications. The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA (ɑ = 5%) if there was an influence followed by BNJ test (ɑ = 5%). The results showed that the addition of coconut shell activated charcoal with a concentration of 1% -5% to traditional coconut oil can significantly reduce free fatty acid levels. In addition, the addition of activated charcoal affects the sensory attributes of color and aroma to be better than the control (without the addition of activated charcoal). The best traditional coconut oil produced in this study is traditional coconut oil added with coconut shell activated charcoal with a concentration of 5% with chemical and sensory characteristics as follows: water content 0.138%, free fatty acid content 0.428%, saponification number 231, 9 mg KOH / g, color value 4,88, and aroma value 3,68.Keywords: adsorbent, activated charcoal, coconut oil, refining, coconut shell

RATES AND APPLICATIONS WAYS OF POLYMER-COATED UREA IN CRISPHEAD LETTUCE CULTIVATION   ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of N rates (using a polymer-coated urea) and N application ways in nutritional status and yield of crisphead lettuce. The randomized block design in a 6 x 4 + 1 factorial arrangement was used, with six N rates (28.75, 57.50, 115.00, 172.50, 230.00, 287.50 kg ha-1 of N), with the use of polymer-coated urea, and four nutrient application ways (100% of the transplant rate, 50% at the transplant + 50% at the 10 days after the transplant (DAT), 25% at the transplant + 75% at 10 days DAT, 25% at transplant + 25% at each side dressing fertilization at 10, 20 and 30 DAT). The additional treatment was related to the recommended N fertilization using conventional urea. N, P, K, Ca and Mg, total and commercial yield, stem diameter, plant height and head diameter were determined at 30 and 60 days after transplant. Nitrogen fertilization increased the N, Ca and Mg foliar levels, independently of the application way. However, in general, it reduced the leaf levels of K and P. There was no influence of N rates from polymer-coated urea and application way on the morphological attributes and yield of the crop. Keywords: Lactuca sativa L.; nitrogen; slow-release fertilizer; controlled-release fertilizer.

Grafting on tomatoes is performed to obtain tomato plants that are resistant to bacterial wilt, waterlogging resistant, resistant to fusarium wilt and nematodes. Bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum causes the tomatoes grown in the rainy season to wilt and die. These bacteria live in the soil and invade plants through roots. To overcome this disease, grafting was carried out by using resistant eggplant as rootstock. This method is expected to reduce the attack of bacterial wilt diseases on tomato plants. The study was conducted in the village of Penyabangan Payangan Gianyar in FY 2014. This area was located at the plateau of AEZ wet climate. The experimental design used was a randomized block design (RBD) with two treatments and 10 replications. Materials used were tomato plants that have been joined with eggplant rootstock (grafted) and tomato plants without root stock (non-grafted) for comparison. The varieties used were varieties F1 Marta. In field applications, the scion was prevented from touching the ground while the rootstock was fully embedded into the ground. Based on the plant height, there was a  slower growth of the grafted tomato plants compared with that of non-grafted one in the early stages of growth but became normal in generative phase. It was also found that the yield of the grafted tomato was lower (2.54 kg. tree-1) than that of the non-grafted  one (3.19 kg.tree-1). Keywords: grafting; tomatoes; eggplant; stem rot;  bacterial wilt (alphabetic in order).

Abstract Cactus pear is an important species for animal feeding in the regions of dry climate. There is no information on the fertilization with coated urea in the cultivation of cactus pear under rainfed conditions in the savannah region. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the forage potential of Nopalea cochenillifera variety Doce in yellow latosol under rainfed conditions in the Brazilian savannah, comparing the fertilization with urea and coated urea in different levels. A randomized block design was adopted, in a 2 × 4 × 2 factorial scheme, with the factors corresponding to two sources of nitrogen (urea and urea coated with polymers, N+), four levels of nitrogen (0, 60, 120 and 240 kg/ha/year) and two harvests (year I and year II). The plants were evaluated after 1 year of growth, in each year of evaluation, regarding the characteristics of growth, production, chemical and mineral composition and nutritional value. The level of 240 kg/ha provided higher emission of cladodes per plant (17.33 and 18.17), respectively, for N+ and urea. The highest nitrogen use efficiency was found in the level of 60 kg N/ha (142 kg/ha/year). NFC values were 3.5 g/kg dry matter (DM) higher when the cactus pear was fertilized with urea in year I and 5.4 g/kg DM in year II. The use of conventional urea promoted better results of agronomic and nutritional characteristics of the cactus pear, under rainfed regime, when compared to the use of urea coated with polymers.
