The relevance of the research is due to the need to increase the technological efficiency and efficiency of the production system of shipbuilding organizations in Russia to ensure an increase in the competitiveness of domestic civil shipbuilding products on the world market. The trends of scientific and technological progress in the industrial sector “Shipbuilding 4.0” have been summarized. The definition of the production system of the shipbuilding organization 4.0 has been proposed. The article reveals the industry-specific features of the functioning of the production system of the organization of Shipbuilding 4.0 on the principles of the concept of Industry 4.0, based on the use of modern digital technologies at all stages of the ship’s life cycle. The article considers the main problems of digitalization of shipbuilding and suggests ways to solve them. Special attention is paid to the unsatisfactory state of fixed production assets, low efficiency of shipbuilding organizations, low rates of introduction of innovative technologies, a shortage of qualified personnel, high cost and long terms of ship construction in comparison with foreign competitors. At the same time, some proposals have been formed: the introduction of lean manufacturing, methods of project and production engineering, the development of economic cooperation and industry standardization. The technical and economic features of shipbuilding, which determines the specifics of the digital transformation of production processes of industry organizations, have been determined. It is proposed to consider the production system of a shipbuilding enterprise as an integrated element of the ecosystem that unites all stakeholders throughout the life cycle of shipbuilding products. We begin this paper by summarizing various studies which used surveys and economic models to describe the characteristics and benefits of the old tradition of ROSCAs which is prevalent in many developing countries around the world. These studies also document the types of draws and the factors that motivate people to participate in a ROSCA. We expand the information on this tradition in a state in India where ROSCA is referred to as bhishi. During the month of January 2013, we interviewed (in-person & over the telephone) several regular participants living in two metro areas in the State of Maharashtra, namely, Mumbai & Pune. Another smaller city of Miraj was also included. The findings from the interviews in India are illustrative of the creative ways people have taken the old, money-based idea of bhishi and interwoven it with the fabric of social and cultural traditions. It is being kept alive to build and strengthen relationships among friends, relatives, and neighbors. Incorporating the fun dimensions ranging from enjoying different cuisine to taking trips into the old tradition seems to maintain its popularity. This behavior is noteworthy especially with India’s recent entry into the world market as an emerging economic power. Although people with lower incomes still value bhishi in its traditional role as a saving vehicle (and occasionally as a lender of last resort), most middle and upper-income earners strongly believe in this modern evolution of an old tradition and are committed to continue it.

Protection of a domestic manufacturing industry to encourage its expansion through import substitution is equivalent (in the absence of equal protection for agriculture) to a “tax” on agriculture to support the development of the industrial sector. To call this policy of biasing the intersectoral terms of trade to favor industry a typical strategy of underdeveloped countries would be, if anything, to understate its universality. The arguments for and against such a strategy are well known, and an approximation of the benefits to the industrial sector can be gleaned from the national accounts of many countries. What remains hidden in the accounts, however, is the cost to the agricultural sector as a result of its being forced to trade at less favorable terms of trade than those provided by the world market. The purpose of this paper is to work out a simple methodology for measuring this cost and then to attempt an estimate of the cost in a particular case.

It has been a long time since Japan was first considered an economic power. Japanese automobile, electronic and computer companies have entered the world market and are now competing fiercely with each other. Their financial power and technologies are focused both domestically and overseas, and their launch into culture through advertising strategies is another facet of that power which has emerged since the 1980s (Un'no 1990).

China's socioeconomic accumulation in the last 30 years has been probably one of the most outstanding global developments and has resulted in massive new challenges for core and periphery countries. The article examines how China's rapid and massive integration to the world market has posed new challenges for countries such as Mexico - and most of Latin America - as a result of China's successful exportoriented industrialization. China's accumulation and global integration process does, however, not only question and challenges the export-possibilities in the periphery, but also the global inability to provide energy in the medium term.
