This research aimed to determine the total amount of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) contamination in beef sold in traditional market in Banda Aceh. Total of 16 beef samples were used in this research, 2 samples from Beurawe market, 10 samples from Peunayong market, and 4 samples from Seutui market. Samples were cultured on manitol salt agar. The number of S. aureus colonies was calculated using colony counter, and the result was compared to the limit of microbial contamination based on Indonesian National Standard (SNI). The result of this research showed that the highest level of S. aureus contamination was derived from Beurawe market. It is concluded that all beef sold by seller from traditional market in Banda Aceh were contaminated by S. aureus.Key words: Staphylococcus aureus, meat, traditional market, number of contamination

Samples of Green Spinach (Amaranthus gangeticus) Kale or Water Spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) and Green Mustards (Brassica rapa I. Subsp. Perviridis Bayley) were collected from three traditional markets and one supermarket in Semarang City, Central Java. The purpose of this descriptive study was to assess lead (Pb) contamination on raw and boiled vegetables and the health risks for residents in Semarang. The Pb of the samples was measured using atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The result showed Pb in all samples exceeded the standard values from WHO/FAO (0,3mg/kg), Indonesian National Standard (SNI) limit for Heavy Metals on Food (0,5 mg/kg) and The National Agency of Drug and Food Control of the Republic of Indonesia (BPOM) (0,2 mg/kg). The highest accumulation of Pb found in kale from ‘B’ Traditional Market with 6,123 mg/kg and the lowest was kale from supermarket 0,25 mg/kg. The boiling process for vegetables may increase the Pb concentration, considering the cookware materials. Results revealed that there is no risk of potential health problems for residents in the city with current Pb concentration.

The people's market is a center of economic activity as a manifestation of welfare. This is because the people's market has been proven to be able to survive and provide services for the needs of the crisis even for low-income people. The agribusiness system is a series of agribusiness activities seen in a system concept that is divided into four subsystems. One of the subsystems is the organizational support subsystem, including traditional markets. Under the Regulation of the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia No: 56/M-DAG/PER/9/2014, the term traditional market is read as people's market. Pasar Rakyat Kertha is a profit-oriented organization engaged in the rental of a place. It has a financial report in the form of an income statement. Through the Income Statement, it can be seen whether a company is feasible or not. The feasibility of a business can be calculated using the R/C ratio.

Background Despite improved economic conditions, vitamin A deficiency remains a public health problem in Indonesia. Objective This paper aims to describe the development of the Indonesian unbranded cooking oil fortification program and to discuss lessons learned to date and future steps necessary for implementation of mandatory, large-scale oil fortification with vitamin A. Methods An historic overview of the steps involved in developing the Indonesian unbranded cooking oil fortification program is given, followed by a discussion of lessons learned and next steps needed. Results Indonesia's low-income groups generally consume unbranded vegetable oil, with an average consumption of approximately 25 g/day. Unbranded oil constitutes approximately 70% of the total oil traded in the country. In 2007–10, a pilot project to fortify unbranded vegetable oil was carried out in Makassar, and an effectiveness study found that the project significantly improved the serum retinol concentrations of schoolchildren. In 2010, the pilot was expanded to two provinces (West Java and North Sumatra) involving the biggest two national refineries. In 2011, a draft national standard for fortified oil was developed, which is currently under review by the National Standard Body and is expected to be mandated nationally in 2013 as announced officially by the Government of Indonesia in national and international meetings. Conclusions Indonesia is a leading world supplier of cooking oil. With stakeholder support, the groundwork has been laid and efforts are moving forward to implement mandatory fortification. This project could encourage Indonesian industry to fortify more edible oils for export, thus expanding their market potential and potentially reducing vitamin A deficiency in the region.

AbstractThis research communication presents an automatic method for the counting of somatic cells in buffalo milk, which includes the application of a fuzzy clustering method and image processing techniques (somatic cell count with fuzzy clustering and image processing|, SCCFCI). Somatic cell count (SCC) in milk is the main biomarker for assessing milk quality and it is traditionally performed by exhaustive methods consisting of the visual observation of cells in milk smears through a microscope, which generates uncertainties associated with human interpretation. Unlike other similar works, the proposed method applies the Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) method as a preprocessing step in order to separate the images (objects) of the cells into clusters according to the color intensity. This contributes signficantly to the performance of the subsequent processing steps (thresholding, segmentation and recognition/identification). Two methods of thresholding were evaluated and the Watershed Transform was used for the identification and separation of nearby cells. A detailed statistical analysis of the results showed that the SCCFCI method is able to provide results which are consistent with those obtained by conventional counting. This method therefore represents a viable alternative for quality control in buffalo milk production.

The term, 'inang-inang pasar' is referred to Bataknese market female vendors who sell basic commodities in the traditional urban markets. They have the image of hard working and tough vendors who fight against poverty in towns. Their activities as vendors in traditional markets indicate their strategic role of women as the agents of economic resilience and the agents of health security in their families. Here, their toughness in supporting their families by being vendors at Sembada traditional market, Medan. However, their toughness becomes a dilemma caused by Covid-19 pandemic. In this case, the government implement prokes (health protocol) from 3Ms to 5 Ms (wearing masks, washing hands, doing social distancing, avoiding crowd, and staying home), including in the area of the traditional markets where they sell their merchandise. The Prokes of Covid-19 in traditional markets have caused various responses from them. The reality is that they have not been ready to practice the policy on this 5 M Prokes since most of them lack of awareness of adhering to it due to the vulnerable of their health habitus. It seems that they can become the carriers and local transmitters of Covid-19. This situation worsens their condition and the people surrounding them such as their own family members.
