Kata kunci : DBD, Aedes aegypti, Pencegahan gigitan nyamukAbstractDengue hemorrhagic fever poses as the most important public health problem in Bandar Lampung today. Increasing number of cases has been occurred from 2001 to 2006, when in 2001 incidence rate was 13.56/100.000 and became 109.8/100.00 at 2006 and at the end of February 2007 it was stated that Bandar Lampung experienced local outbreak dengue hemorrhagic fever. A case-control study was conducted to explore the correlation of suspected risk factors with dengue infection in Bandar Lampung from 20 April to 30 May 2007. 230 cases and 230 controls were included for statistical analysis. After further adjusting of confounders, there are strong correlation between habitual elimination of mosquito breeding sites and use of personal protective (e.g. the use repellent, mosquito coil and use insecticide hand sprayer) with dengue case. Individual has one PSN estimated to be 2,22 (95% CI : 1,32-3,72) times as great for individual has 3 PSN and individual did not PSN estimates to be 5,85 (95% CI : 2,86 - 11,99) times as great has dengue fever for individual has 3 PSN after controlled by history neighborhood DHF, water container around house, use of mosquito prevention agent. Community health center staff should conduct epidemiology investigation to eradicate dengue fever by focusing on community empowerment. Keywords: Dengue, Aedes aegypti, Personal protection

Abstract Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is an infectious arboviral disease transmitted by Aedesmosquitoes. DHF is a public health importance in Indonesia which cause outbreaks inendemic areas. Dengue infection could be fatal if it is not immediately addressed. InJanuary 2016, the dengue outbreak occurred in the Sekarjaya community health center(CHC) working area, Ogan Komering Ulu district leading to one fatal case. A post-outbreakinvestigation was employed to observe the presence of the Aedes immature stage and tocharacterize their potential breeding sites. A total of 230 houses were inspected. A highlarval density was observed with free-larval index and house index (HI) was 54% and 46%,respectively. Of 876 containers were found; of which 181containers contained larva and 49containers with Aedes pupae. The container index (CI) and pupal index (PI) was 21% and6%, respectively. Aedes aegypti positive containers associated with the water source, type, color, the presence of predatory fish, the presence of cover and draining frequency. Aroutine larval survey needs to be conducted in public places around the residences. Abstrak Demam Berdarah Dengue (DBD) merupakan penyakit menular yang disebabkan oleh  virus dengue dan ditularkan oleh nyamuk sebagai vektor. Abstract: Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) has become a public health problem in Indonesia because of its high prevalence and ability to spread more widely. In North Sulawesi itself Case Fatality Rate of carrying dengue is increasing from year to year. The local village Malalayang has a high potential for spreading this disease. The result of an  entomology survey on adult mosquitos showed that Aedes sp was found in 40 houses of 80 house samples. From these 40 houses we got 71 mosquito samples. From these 71 samples tested and identified, we found three species: Aedes aegypti (30 samples, 42.25%), Aedes albopictus (22 samples, 30.99%), and Culex sp (19 samples, 26.76%). Mosquito density can be seen from the indices of the resting rates, which were 0.375 for Aedes aegypti, 0.275 for Aedes albopictus, and 0.65 for Aedes sp. Key words: density, adult mosquito, Aedes sp., resting rate.

Background: In India, dengue epidemics are becoming more frequent (WHO, 2008). The majority of dengue viral infections are self-limiting, but complications may cause high morbidity and mortality. The objective of this study is to assess the clinical profile of the dengue infection in children less than 15 years of age and to evaluate the outcomes of dengue fever from March 2017 to July 2017 at the Pediatric Department of Karuna Medical College, the tertiary care hospital in Palakkad. Methods: In this retrospective study, medical records were reviewed and analyzed. Patients with suspected dengue infection were classified further into 2 groups, Dengue fever (probable dengue, dengue with warning signs) and ‘Severe Dengue’ (dengue hemorrhagic fever and/or dengue shock syndrome (DHF/DSS) according to WHO.Results: A total of 77 cases were classified into 67 (87%) non-severe and 10 (13%) severe dengue cases. The most common age of presentation was above 10 yrs. The mean age of admission was 8.9 yrs. The most common presenting symptom was fever seen in 93% followed by vomiting in 68%. Elevation in Aspartate transaminase (SGOT) and thrombocytopenia were found in 32.4 %.Conclusions: High grade fever, vomiting, abdominal pain and skin rash with normal or low platelet count were the presenting features. Early diagnosis, monitoring and prompt supportive management can reduce mortality.

Background and Aim: Aedes aegypti is the vector of dengue fever, dengue hemorrhagic fever, chikungunya, and, most recently, Zika. Dengue fever is one of Indonesia's endemic diseases. The principal tool for preventing dengue is controlling Ae. aegypti by chemical insecticides since vaccine against dengue is still under research. However, Ae. aegypti developed resistance to various chemical insecticides worldwide. Therefore, research on alternate compounds as mosquito insecticides is urgently needed. This study demonstrated the efficacy of Artemisia vulgaris extract as larvicidal, ovicidal, adulticidal, repellency, and oviposition deterrent activity against Ae. aegypti. Materials and Methods: A. vulgaris was obtained from Temanggung, Indonesia, while the eggs of Ae. aegypti were collected from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and were hatched in Laboratory of Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Gadjah Mada. Larvicidal activity was evaluated according to the WHO protocol; adulticidal activity was performed using the Centers for Disease Control protocol. Oviposition activity was evaluated using ovitraps added with A. vulgaris extract, complete protection time in the repellent assay was defined as the number of minutes elapsed between compound application and the landing of the first mosquito. Results: A test of the larvicidal activity of A. vulgaris extract returned an LC50 of 65.8 ppm (r2=0.9014) in 1 h and 18.6 ppm (r2=0.575) in 24 h. A. vulgaris was effective as an adulticidal, demonstrating LC50 values of 11.35 mg (r2=0.875) in 90 min, 9.63 mg (r2=0.924) in 105 min, and 6.46 mg (r2=0.925) in 120 min. A. vulgaris at a concentration of 1000 ppm was able to reach 96% of oviposition deterrent effect. The ovicidal assay, a concentration of 1000 ppm resulted in 82.67% of eggs remaining unhatched. An extract concentration of 80 mg/ml achieved 63.3±3.5% biting repellency in adults. Conclusion: This study gives a clear indication that A. vulgaris extract acts on Ae. aegypti at various developmental stages and is a potential alternative bioinsecticide for controlling this disease vector.

INTRODUCTION: The dengue hemorrhagic dengue (DHF) remains an important public health problem in Brazil. The objective of this study was to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of DHF cases during the 2003 epidemic in Ceará. METHODS: Suspected DHF cases with onset of symptoms between January and December 2003 were investigated. RESULTS: 37,964 classic dengue cases and 291 DHF cases were reported. Among the cases discarded, 75.5% were serologically positive but did not meet the criteria recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). The DHF patients' median age was 30 years (2 - 88). Among the hemorrhagic manifestations, petechiae were the most (32.6%) frequent. Cases of gastrointestinal bleeding, ascites, pericardial pleural effusion, hepatomegaly, hypotension and shock showed higher risk of progression to death (p <0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The introduction of a new serotype (DENV-3) in Ceará, which encountered a susceptible population and high vector density, may have been the primary agent responsible for the magnitude of the epidemic. Timely and appropriate medical care, along with an organized care structure are essential for reducing its lethality.

Introduction.Dengue fever is an arboviral disease, which is transmitted by mosquito vector and presents as varied clinical spectrum of dengue fever (DF), dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), dengue shock syndrome (DSS), and expanded dengue syndrome (EDS) with atypical presentations, thus posing a diagnostic dilemma. Unless we are aware of these presentations, diagnosis as well as early initiation of treatment becomes difficult. We studied the various clinical presentations of dengue infection during an outbreak of disease in 2015.Materials and Methods. A total of 115 confirmed cases of dengue infection from Department of Medicine of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, New Delhi, were enrolled in this observational study.Results.The common signs and symptoms of dengue infection were fever, headache, body ache, backache, retro-orbital pain, bleeding manifestations, and rash in 100%, 87%, 86%, 58%, 41%, 21%, and 21%, respectively. Nonspecific or warning signs and symptoms included vomiting, weakness, abdominal pain, breathlessness, vertigo, sweating, and syncope. Other possible signs and symptoms of coinfections, comorbidities, or complications included diarrhea, sore throat, and neurological manifestations. There were seven patients with coinfections and four with comorbidities. The final diagnosis of these patients was DF (73%), DHF (16.5%), DSS (1.7%), and EDS (4.3%). Among EDS patients, the atypical presentations included encephalopathy, lateral rectus nerve palsy, acalculous cholecystitis, and myocarditis. Four patients required ICU care and there was no death in this study.Conclusion. Knowledge of atypical presentations is a must for early diagnosis and timely intervention to prevent life-threatening complications.
