Abstract This work focuses on the relationship between protective factors and resiliency, self-regulation and the legal and illegal substance use in a group of 215 adolescents from High School (Felgueiras, Portugal) level. The results allow us to verify a relationship between substance use and some resiliency and protective factors but weren’t found a meaningful relation with self-regulation in the majority of the substance use type. Excepts the "Impulse control”, that favors those individuals who do not experiment cocaine, crack or other drugs. Despite the lack of relationship between self-regulation and most of substance use, some interesting tips allow us to infer the importance of this concept, which was strengthened by the moderate correlation between self-regulation and resilience factors. However, the relationship between self-regulation and consumer can be mediated by other variables, given its importance in the explanation of resilience.

This article presents information regarding the evolving understanding of the relationships between impulse-control disorders, compulsion-related disorders, and addictions (both substance-related and behavioral). The traditional model describing the relationship between impulse-control disorders and compulsion-related disorders is now considered overly simplistic. New research suggests that this relationship is complex, and distinctions between these disorders are not as solid as previously thought. Information about this dynamic relationship also has implications for substance use disorders and behavioral addictions.

This study examines the impact of early substance use on school completion. From a life-course perspective, early deviance can interrupt adolescent development, including education. Studies have cited substance use in early adolescence as a risk factor for school dropout; however, few studies examine the relationship with diverse samples. Using longitudinal data from the Rochester Youth Development Study, we examine the impact of early alcohol and drug use on high school completion relative to other risk factors for Latino, White, and African American males. Once family, school, and life events are considered, early alcohol and drug use exerts an independent influence on the failure to complete high school for White and African American males. Among Latino males, the relationship between early use and school completion appears to be mediated by impregnating a partner

Individual and family characteristics are shown to contribute to shaping adolescent’s behavior related to smartphone usage. Specifically, perceived parenting style and self-regulation have been reported as significant factors influencing smartphone addiction among adolescents. Objective: This study aims to identify the relationship among parenting style, self-regulation, and smartphone addiction proneness in Indonesian junior high school students.Method: This study used a cross-sectional, descriptive study design. Data collection took place in five public junior high schools in Jember from the 7th of January to the 8th of February, 2019. The total sample of this study was 158, purposively asked to fill out three questionnaires: Parental Authority Questionnaire, Self-Regulation Questionnaire, and Smartphone Addiction Proneness Scale. Chi-square test and Pearson’s correlation coefficients were used to test the relationship between two variables.Result: The differences in smartphone addiction proneness between the risk group and non-risk group were significant depending on gender (p=0.004), daily smartphone usage time (p=0.025), and purpose of smartphone usage (p=0.001). A significant negative correlation was found between self-regulation and smartphone addiction proneness (r= -0.448, p=0.001).Conclusion: The current study found that 11.4% of junior high school students in Jember-Indonesia were categorized into risk groups for smartphone addiction. Gender, daily smartphone usage time, and purpose of smartphone usage showed significant differences between the risk group and the non-risk group. However, there was no difference in the parenting style of the mother between the two groups. Self-regulation showed a significant association with smartphone addiction.

This study aims at examining the relationship between students’ attitude towards their writing ability. This study employed quantitative study by using Pearson-product correlation. The samples were randomly selected 35 students out of the total population 70 students in one senior high school in Bandung. The Data were obtained through questionnaire with regard to attitude and writing proficiency which are appropriate with several criteria of each writing element to scrutinize the correlation between students’ attitude and writing skill ability. Substance use among adolescents is a serious social problem that may be related to emotional dependence, attachment styles and difficulties in emotional regulation. Thus, the objectives of this study were to analyse the relationship and predictive role of emotional dependence, attachment and emotional regulation on substance use in the last month. In addition, gender and age differences were analysed in all variables of the study. The mediating role of emotional regulation and attachment styles in the relationship between emotional dependence and substance use was also verified. The sample used was made up of 1.533 schooled adolescents, 826 men and 707 women with ages ranging from 13 to 22 years (M = 15.76, SD = 1.25). The results showed a positive relationship between substance use and emotional dependence. Similarly, substance users showed positive relationships with the difficulties of emotional regulation, as well as, with the attachment styles of parental permissiveness, self-sufficiency and resentment against parents and child trauma, and negative relationships with secure attachment, family concern, parental interference and value to parental authority.
