Vyacheslav Ivanov’s “Russian Idea” in the Context of his Philosophy of Culture: an Attempt of Interpretation “The Tale of Tsarevich Svetomir”

The author refers to the most “mysterious” work of Vyacheslav Ivanov which was essentially his testament. It is shown that “The Tale of Tsarevich Svetomir” is the quintessence of Ivanov’s philosophical worldview. The author maintains that some key concepts of Ivanov’s cultural philosophy find their artistic embod­iment in the “Tale”: symbol, myth, Russian idea, element. The author examines the genre classification of the “Tale” and concludes that the Ivanov’s choice of the genre of the work was determined by the use of folklore material in the framework of modernist literary experiments, which is characteristic of the poet­ics of Silver Age. The distinctive features of Ivanov's symbolism in relation to the artistic trends of the Silver Age are also indicated. The mythological form of the “Tale” reflects Ivanov's philosophy of mythology which can be therefore un­derstood as a structure-forming principle of the artwork. This makes it possible to use the basic concepts of Ivanovs’s symbolism as hermeneutic keys to “The Tale of Tsarevich Svetomir”. The final part of the article justifies the hy­pothesis that the Russian idea qua myth constitutes the main content of “The Tale of Tsarevich Svetomir”

The necessity for designing autonomous indexing tools to establish expressive and efficient means of describing musical media content is well recognized. Music genre classification systems are significant to manage and use music databases. This research paper proposes an enhanced method to automatically classify music into different genre using a machine learning approach and presents the insight and results of the application of the proposed scheme to the classification of a large set of The Bangla music content, a South-East Asian language rich with a variety of music genres developed over many centuries. Building upon musical feature extraction and decision-making techniques, we propose new features and procedures to achieve enhanced accuracy. We demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method by extracting features from a dataset of hundreds of The Bangla music pieces and testing the automatic classification decisions. This is the first development of an automated classification technique applied specifically to the Bangla music to the best of our knowledge, while the superior accuracy of the method makes it universally applicable.

The article introduces a phenomenon of computer game as an emerging field in translation studies. The development and expanding of the world industry of interactive entertainment demands a proficient video games translation of high quality as the international market of video products is dominated by American and Japanese producers. The author discusses the issues of videogames translation in the concept field of localization as a videogames is not only an audiovisual product but a software product. The concept of translation and translator’s competence is about to leave the traditional equivalency paradigm and needs the application of other dimensions. The article discusses the genre classification of videogames, characteristics and difficulties of RPG translation, various simulators translation. The author analyses the most popular translation strategies used by the modern translators of multimedia products: foreignization – keeping a “foreign flavor” of the text; domestication – texts adaptation to the particular features and standards of the target culture; no translation strategy – leaving the original titles, names, culture references without translation. The dominant translation strategy influences the localization strategy and others.


Counterfeit note has a disastrous impact on a country’s economy. The circulation of such fake notes not only diminishes the value of genuine note but also results in inflation. The feasible solution to this burning issue is to create awareness about the counterfeit notes among public and to equip them with a technology to detect fake notes on their own. Though there exist numerous research articles on detection of fake notes, they are not handy. The reason for this could be the unavailability or unaffordability in acquiring the equipment for the same. This paper proposes an approach whose implementation can easily be deployed on a smart phone and hence anyone with access to them can use the application to detect the fake notes. The proposed approach consists of the processing phases including image procurement, pre-processing, data augmentation, feature extraction and classification. ₹500 notes are considered for experimentation analysis. Out of 17 distinctive features, 3 such from the obverse side are considered to evaluate the genuineness of the note. Siamese neural network is employed to build a model for effective classification of the notes. The performance of the proposed approach is evaluated at 85% with respect to accuracy.

Цель статьи – культурологический и искусствоведческий анализ трех портретных изображений выдающейся балерины Серебряного века русской культуры Софьи Федоровой 2-й (1879–1963), созданных С.Д. Эрьзей, М.Д. Рындзюнской и Н.Я. Данько. Материалом исследования являются архивные документы, отечественная периодика 1910-х гг., отзывы критиков и воспоминания современников о балерине. На основе использования сравнительно-исторического, биографического и семиотического методов представлена характеристика личности и творчества Федоровой 2-й, реконструирована ее биография; прослежена история создания трех скульптур, выявлены их художественные особенности и смыслоSвоенаполнение. Автор заключает, что Н. Я. Данько и М.Д. Рындзюнская изображают «дневную» Федорову, главным в их работах является демонстрация красоты и выразительности движений балерины. С.Д. Эрьзя запечатлел «ночную» Федорову: сосредоточив внимание на лице артистки, он сумел в своей скульптуре отразить ее сложный внутренний мир. The main aim of the article is to present an art historical and cultural analysis of three portrait images of Sofia Fedorova II(1879–1963), the outstanding ballerina of the Silver Age of Russian culture, created by masters of Russian sculpture Stepan Erzia (portrait bust, 1915, marble), MarinaRyndzyunskaya (statue, 1916, marble) and Natalya Danko (figurine, 1921, porcelain). The research materials are previously unpublished documents from the archives of Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Saransk, as well as articles from Russian periodicals of the 1910s; reviews of professional critics and memories about the ballerina. Based on the use of comparative historical, biographical, and semiotic methods, the article reconstructs Fedorova’s biography, considers various aspects of the reception of her personality and work by contemporaries: figures of literature (Vyacheslav Ivanov), theater (S. Giatsintova, E. Gogoleva, K. Stanislavsky, V. Telyakovsky), ballet (S. Grigoriev, B. Nizhinskaya), art critics and historians of ballet (Yu. Belyaev, P. Liven, S. Mamontov), other representatives of the humanitarian intelligentsia (S. Grigorov). Sofia Fedorova is known as an unsurpassed performer of characteristic dances in ballet and opera performances, as well as a ballerina who embodied the images of the innovative choreography of A.A. Gorsky and M.M. Fokin. Vyacheslav Ivanov claimed that the ballerina had “two faces”: the “daytime”, “galloping” Fedorova and the “nighttime” Fedorova, whose sphere was the “dark mysticism of the soul”. The author of the article traced the history of the creation of the three sculptures and revealed their artistic features and semantic content. The three sculptors created completely different sculptural images of Fedorova: a monumental marble figure (Ryndzyunskaya), an easel marble bust (Erzia), and a decorative porcelain figurine (Danko). According to the findings of the author of the study, Danko portrays Fedorova as “daytime” and “galloping” (nevertheless, she manages to create an ethereal image). Ryndzyunskaya also shows Fedorova as“daytime”, the sculptor is attracted by the ballerina’s grace, the beauty and expressiveness of her movement: portraying it, she focuses on purely plastic problems. Erzia is the only sculptor of the three who managed to see and capture the “nighttime” Fedorova. He is not interested in the ballerina’s dance, but in her complex deep inner world: he reflects the “dark mysticism” of her soul, conveys the state of tensity and anxiety that engulfed the woman, revealing not only signs of her incipient mental illness, but also her keen sense of the catastrophic state of the world (during World War I and the impending revolution).

<p>In this paper, I will document the use of Facebook in a Danish context, taking a mediatisation perspective focused on the network sociality in question (Jensen, 2009; Tække, 2010a/b) and the communication (Miller, 2008) of social media. This discussion is based on a qualitative study from 2010, consisting of participants recruited from a survey study. The study explores three dilemmas resulting from network media’s communicative paradox, involving the premises of self-representation, use of status updates, and social regulation. These dilemmas are contextualised by recent theories of genre and speech-acts (Miller, 2004; Butler, 2005) as well as by existing studies of related issues, such as the composition of personal networks (friend lists) and the degree to which personal profiles are open and accessible (privacy). While the study generally confirms recent research in these fields, such research has not previously been documented (or refined) in a Danish context. The paper’s most important contributions, however, consist of its identification of the three communicative dilemmas, its tentative genre classification of the status update, and its discussion of implicit social regulation and ethics, which have not been previously been considered.</p>

Th article describes the specifis, principles and methods of synergetics as a promising area of modern research. Synergetics is presented by the author as a holistic integral paradigm used in many sciences which confims its interdisciplinary and even universal nature. Th object of this paradigm is the interaction of complex systems, and since the mere concept ‘system’ is widely used in many scientifi filds, the relevance of synergetics is beyond doubt. Th author describes the main characteristics of the structure and functioning of a system. Th key concepts of synergetics and their explanation are also given. Further, the article discusses the branches of linguistics which use principles of synergetics – linguosynergetics and functional linguosynergetics as its variety. Since the study of text and discourse and their parameters as complex systems is of particular interest to many linguists, linguosynergetics has become one of the demanded scientifi paradigms in this area of research. Th author points out the objectives and tasks of linguistic synergetics, and functional linguosynergetics in particular, their basic concepts, principles and methods. Attention is also paid to the functioning of linguistic means, as well as the formation and interpretation of meaning depending on certain discursive space. Th author comes to the conclusion that thanks to synergetics language can be studied from specifi angles, and the application of its principles greatly contributes to the theory of the evolution of language. Linguosynergetics provides ample opportunities for describing language/text/discourse as a complex dynamic open system, and functional linguosynergetics, in turn, helps describe the features of its functioning and evolution.
