Experimental Methods for the Evaluation of the Efficiency of an Innovative Sulfur-Dissolving Product in HP-HT Conditions

Abstract During production from sour gas reservoirs, precipitation of elemental sulfur can take place in production tubing, resulting in plugging of the well and stop of production. Injection in tubing of products devoted to dissolving sulfur can be an efficient solution for plug removal and production restoring. Traditionally, organic solvents (like toluene) are employed for solid sulfur dissolution. In the present work, experimental investigations have been performed on a particular innovative liquid product designed as active phase for wellbore injection or near wellbore applications. The analyses about the behavior of the considered product were conducted at HP-HT conditions. For this purpose, PVT laboratory equipment was employed, being able to reproduce the conditions of interest for the formation of elemental sulfur plug in well. An important preliminary optimization phase on the experimental setup was necessary to assure the correct management of studied liquid substance and solid sulfur. Integration of main outcomes with other kind of analyses allowed to depict a complete representation of the behavior: microscopy analysis of the liquid phase and high-resolution tomography of solid sulfur before and after the interaction were employed. A key point of the experimental characterization is the reproduction of significant involved phenomena. A preliminary effort was necessary for reproducing the realistic crystal form expected during the precipitation of solid sulfur in well. The dissolution efficiency of the liquid product is evaluated by observing its physical interaction with sulfur in a HP-HT cell. Particular attention was paid to correctly handling employed substances at the considered pressure and temperature conditions. A detailed description of the optimized equipment used in laboratory is provided. Several dissolution tests have been conducted at different temperature and pressure conditions, aiming to observe the dependence of the dissolution efficiency on the thermodynamic parameters. A visual qualitative analysis was performed on both the liquid product and the solid plug, before and after the interaction in cell. This allowed to deepen the comprehension of the dynamics of sulfur dissolution, which takes place not only from the top face of the plug, but also from preferential paths (fractures) present inside the plug itself. The presence of sulfur crystals dispersed in the liquid product after sampling from the cell is also evident at the end of the tests. The studied novel sulfur-dissolving liquid active phase is a candidate for remedial job injection at well in case of plugging due to solid elemental sulfur precipitation. The analyses here presented allowed to characterize the dissolution potential of this product. An optimized workflow was designed, including different kind of experimental disciplines.

Labor pain is a physiological condition that began at the first stage of labor (laten and active phase). Pain comes from uterine contractions and cervical dilation in an attempt to pave the way for birth and encourage babies to be born. Experts find pharmacological and non-pharmacological ways to reduce pain in labor, one of them is Dzikir guided by childbirth helper (midwife). The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences of labor pain level on mother in latent phase before and after applying Dzikir. Subjects were 15 accidentally selected mothers in labor latent phase on March - April in PMB “S” Puger Jember. The design of this study uses a quasi-experimental one group pre-posttest. Results showed significant decreased pain level of mothers after doing Dzikir significantly (Z=-3,578, p≤0.001). In conclusions, there are differences of labor pain level on mother in latent phase before and after applying Dzikir

Karst is a central focus in the field of carbonate reservoir geology. Fracture dissolution enlargement is an important mechanism for the formation of high-quality reservoirs. This study performed four carbonate fracture dissolution enlargement (CFDE) experiments under a confining pressure of 20 MPa, and temperatures ranged from 40 to 60°C. CO2-saturated deionized water was injected into artificial carbonate fractures at approximately 11.5 ml/h for 96, 208, 216, and 216 hours. The water flowing out of the fractures was sampled every 8 h to monitor the concentration of Ca2+. SEM photomicrographs and 3D laser scanning images were taken before and after the CFDE experiments to observe the dissolution process of the fracture surfaces. After the CFDE experiment, the hydraulic apertures (Bh) of sample 1 (S1), sample 3 (S3), and sample 4 (S4) were enlarged by 3.4, 1.4, and 1.2 times, respectively. The aperture of sample 2 (S2) was slightly reduced in the early stage of the experiment. The experimental results of this study demonstrate that Bh can be divided into three categories as a function of time: S type, logarithmic type, and polynomial type. The laboratory dissolution rate of S1, S2, S3, and S4 were 2.50 × 10−6, 3.11 × 10−6, 2.70 × 10−6, and 3.04 × 10−6 mol/m2/s. The pattern of fracture dissolution is closely related to the Peclet and Damkohler numbers. The dissolution processes of high Peclet and Damkohler numbers lead to a pattern of obvious channelization. The Peclet and Damkohler numbers of the S3 CFDE experiment were the highest, and the channelizing dissolution is the most notable in S3 of the four fractures. A dissolution process at low temperature has a higher Peclet number and thus leads to obvious channelizing dissolution. Mineral heterogeneities in the rock also play a significant role in channelizing dissolution. A preferential channel typically develops in places where bioclasts are accumulated or the calcite veins are distributed.

The aim of this contribution is to test the suitability of selected types of tool steels used for manufacturing of injection molds. Experiments were realized by the simulation of adhesive wear using laboratory equipment Amsler, which allows the testing of grinding pairs. Evaluated grinding pairs consisted of tool steel and two types of roundels. Tested polymeric materials were based on pure PA6 and PBT filled with short glass fibers, prepared by mixing process in twin screw extruder. The wear of five types of tool steels were evaluated by weight decrease before and after the experiment, while changing the friction coefficient of grinding pairs, material of grinding pairs and sensing the roughness of steel before and after wear.

In this work, the Engine Combustion Network Spray G injector was mounted in the Darmstadt optical-accessible engine to study phenomena typical of multi-hole, early direct-injection events in spark-ignition engines characterized by tumble flow charge motion. Dedicated experimental measurements of both in-cylinder spray morphology and flow velocities before and after the injection process were carried out to assess the adopted numerical setup under real engine conditions. A dynamic secondary breakup model from the literature was coupled with an atomization multi-motion regime model. The model was validated against state-of-the-art ECN Spray G experiments for a constant-volume chamber under low evaporating condition. Then, the simulation of the spray injection in the engine was carried out and the achieved results were compared against the experimental data. Overall, good agreement between experiments and simulations was observed for the spray morphology and velocity fields in both cases. With reference to engine calculations the intake flow was seen to induce spray asymmetry. A partial vortex generated during the intake phase on the tumble plane interacts with the spray, developing into a full vortex which induces an upward flow that stabilizes the spray. The upward flows below the intake valve increase the dilution of the plume outside the tumble plane, which therefore exhibits reduced penetration. Moreover, the intake valves protect from the energetic intake flow the recirculation vortex generated at the tip of the plumes that lie outside the tumble plane. The intake flow helps fuse the vapor fuel clouds of the individual plumes near the injector tip, obtaining a vapor fuel with a shape like that generated by a horseshoe multi-hole injector. Finally, a phenomenological model of the interaction between the multi-hole injector jets and the engine intake flow was introduced to describe the spray evolution in a typical DISI engine.

Background The purpose of this investigation was to determine if epidural analgesia, established during active phase labor, results in elimination or reversal of fundal dominance (lower uterine segment pressure equal to or greater than fundal pressure). Methods Upper and lower uterine segment intrauterine pressures were prospectively evaluated for 50 min before and 50 min after epidural analgesia using 0.25% bupivacaine in 11 nulliparous women in spontaneous active labor. A total of 958 contractions were evaluated. Results No significant differences were found in the number of contractions in the interval before epidural analgesia compared to after epidural analgesia. Significantly greater pressure readings were recorded in the upper segment than in the lower segment (consistent with fundal dominance) both before and after epidural analgesia (P<0.01). In addition, fundal dominance increased after epidural analgesia when compared to the preanalgesia period (P<0.01). Conclusions Fundal dominance is present both before and after active phase epidural analgesia and is increased during the immediate 50-min postanalgesia period.

Seepage-induced internal erosion often happens in earth structures. This paper presents experimental investigations on the influence of initial fines content on fabric of soils subjected to internal erosion. The tested materials were the binary mixtures of silica No. 3 and silica No. 8, which correspond to the coarse and fine fractions, respectively. One group of specimens was prepared with initial fines contents of 0, 15%, 25%, and 35% by weight. The undrained monotonic compression tests were performed on this group to examine the influence of fines content on the undrained behavior. The other group was prepared with initial fines contents of 15%, 25%, and 35% by weight, on which the seepage tests and subsequent undrained compression tests were carried out to demonstrate the mechanical influence of the internal erosion. The undrained behavior of the first group of specimens reveals that the presence of fines would decrease the peak and residual strengths. A comparison between the undrained behavior of soils with erosion and that of soils without erosion shows that the soils become less contractive after the internal erosion. When the axial strain is less than 0.4%, the undrained secant stiffness of soils with erosion is larger than that without erosion at the same axial strain. Meanwhile, the undrained peak strength and residual strength are larger for soils with erosion than that for soils without erosion. The less amount of excess pore-water pressure is generated during the undrained compression for the eroded soils comparing to those of the uneroded soils. Furthermore, the eroded soils show a wider instability zone than that of the uneroded soils, which suggests that the instability zone be enlarged by the internal erosion. Besides, one-dimensional upward seepage tests were performed to investigate the change of fabric of the mixed sand with 15%, 25%, and 35% fines contents due to internal erosion. The recorded microscopic images of soils before and after erosion reveal that the fabric is altered by the internal erosion.

Abstract we present a novel surfacing coating to resolve the stability of α-AlH3. Inspired by the strong chemical adhesion of mussels, the polymerization of dopamine was first introduced to coat α-AlH3 through a simple situ polymerization. The α-AlH3 was used as a substrate. In-depth characterizations confirmed compact formation with PDA on α-AlH3 surface. The coated α-AlH3 sample was characterized by XRD XPS and SEM . The results show that a strong PDA film is formed on the surface of α-AlH3, the PDA@α-AlH3 retained primary morphology. The crystal form of α-AlH3 does not change after coated by PDA. The results of XPS analysis show that N1s appears on the material after coated by PDA, indicating that polydopamine is formed on the surface of α-AlH3. The moisture absorption tests show that the moisture absorption rate of α-AlH3 is greatly reduced after being coated with PDA. The excellent intact ability of PDA prevent α-AlH3 reacting with watered in the air. The thermal stability of α-AlH3 before and after coating was analyzed by DSC. This work demonstrates the successful applications of dopamine chemistry to α-AlH3, thereby providing a potential method for the metastable materials.

Background: Pain-coping behavior of primiparous women may have adverse effects on the mother and fetus. In Tangerang, the majority of pregnant women have negative experiences of pain and pain-coping behaviors during labor.Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the invocation (do’a) on pain-coping behaviors of primiparous Muslim women during the first 3 hours of the active phase of labor.Methods: It was an experimental study with pre-posttest design. Ten primiparos women were randomly selected and assigned to the control and intervention group. Each group conssisted of 5 participants. Pain-coping behavior was measured by the Pain Behavior Observation Scale (POBS).Results: Findings revealed that pain-coping behaviors were increased for those who received the invocation (do’a) with p-value < .05 than those who received the routine care. The effectiveness of do'a could be seen from the average difference of scores of pain-coping behaviors before and after intervention. The intervention group significantly had higher pain-coping behaviors than the control group during three hours of posttest, while controlling for the pretest measure, F (3.24) = 15.68, p< .001.Conclusions: The invocation (do’a) program for primiparos women during labor is feasible to be conducted, and effective to increase pain-coping behaviors. Therefore, it is suggested to provide this program for primiparos women during the first 3 hours of active phase of labor.

Background: The aim of this study was to appraise the implementation of the National HIV guidelines and determine the effect of an educational intervention on health worker knowledge and practice of the guidelines. Methods: A before and after study design without control was carried out using a self-administered questionnaire and key informant interviews. Data was also collected from client record cards. An educational intervention was carried out using pamphlets containing summarized information on the guideline. Data analysis was carried out using IBM-SPSS version 20. Result: Results showed that 54.5% of the respondents were males and 76% were medical doctors. Baseline knowledge level of respondents was high with 97% of respondents having good knowledge with a mean score of 3.9. This increased to 4.1 out of 5 post-intervention. All respondents had good practice of the guidelines before and after intervention with a mean score of 4.5 out of 5. Client records also showed good practice. Barriers to guideline implementation include: poor knowl- edge, inadequate training, guideline unavailability, poor functioning of the laboratory equipment, poor funding. Conclusion: HIV guidelines are being implemented in the clinic to a large extent; however, trainings, funding and provision of the guideline in the clinics are recommended. Abstract There is currently urgent interest in identifying the species of origin of the components of different animal by-products. In Europe, this interest is expected to increase with authorization of the re-introduction of these proteins into animal feed formulations. The number of validated methods to differentiate the species of origin for most of these products is limited. An easy, inexpensive, and accurate test was developed to determine the cross-contamination of bovine blood or plasma in porcine whole blood and plasma, both before and after spray drying. Agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID), the studied technique, detected the presence of bovine immunoglobulin G (IgG) in porcine plasma and in whole blood at inclusion levels &gt;0.5% (v/v) in all cases. However, detectability was lower in liquid plasma (0.3%, v/v) and in liquid whole blood (0.5%, v/v). No differences were found when cross-contamination was simulated before or after whole blood centrifugation. The method described is reliable and inexpensive, and the samples are easy to prepare. Both minimal laboratory equipment and expertise are required for detection of bovine IgG in porcine blood products at inclusion levels of &gt;0.5% (v/v).
