Abstract Background: Cachexia is a multifactorial syndrome characterized by weight loss, muscle wasting, and symptoms such as fatigue and anorexia. The primary aim of this study was to quantitatively and qualitatively examine the research trends and hotspots on chemotherapy options in cachexia. Methods: A scientometric analysis was carried out according to the Science Citation Index-Expended database in the Web of Science. By utilizing bibliometric software, the performance of the total articles was covered from records, authors and affiliations, journals and research categories, to burst references, citation relationship network, and the keywords co-occurrence overlay visualization. Results: A total of 1,111 articles were retrieved. The United States occupied the top position both on the total outputs and the cooperation with other countries. Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle had the highest impact factor and the most publications. Eight main groups were clustered by the similarity of the research topic. Ongoing weight loss has been the main bottleneck either in mechanistic research or therapeutic trials. In addition to nutritional supplements, the major options for pharmacological therapy were progestational agents, such as megestrol acetate and corticosteroids. ‘Computed tomography’ and strategies dealing with ‘skeletal muscle mass’, ‘muscle mass’, ‘sarcopenia’ and ‘muscle atrophy’ might be the breakthrough for the future diagnosis and treatment of cachexia. Conclusions: We considered the publication information by summarizing the literature on the pharmacological treatment of cachexia. In summary, this study provides novel and useful data for related scientific research and will help researchers explore cachexia chemotherapy options more intuitively and effectively.

Ranaviruses are large nucleocytoplasmic DNA viruses that infect ectothermic vertebrates. Here we report the results of a scientometric analysis of the field of ranavirology for the last 10 years. Using bibliometric tools we analyse trends, identify top publications and journals, and visualise the ranavirus collaboration landscape. The Web of Science core collection contains 545 ranavirus-related publications from 2010 to 2019, with more publications produced every year and a total of 6830 citations. Research output is primarily driven by the United States and People’s Republic of China, who together account for more than 60% of ranavirus publications. We also observed a positive correlation between the average number of co-authors on ranavirus publications and the year of publication, indicating that overall collaboration is increasing. A keyword analysis of ranavirus publications from 2010 to 2019 reveals several areas of research interest including; ecology, immunology, virology/molecular biology, genetics, ichthyology, and herpetology. While ranavirus research is conducted globally, relatively few publications have co-authors from both European and Asian countries, possibly because closer countries (geographical distance) are more likely to share co-authors. To this end, efforts should be made to foster collaborations across geopolitical and cultural boundaries, especially between countries with shared research interests as ultimately, understanding global pathogens, like ranaviruses, will require global collaboration.

Abstract Background In the U.S., Hispanic women experience a disproportionate rate of obesity and obesity-related chronic diseases. At the same time, Hispanic women remain considerably underrepresented in behavioral weight loss interventions. The purpose of this review is to systematically evaluate the evidence related to the effectiveness of weight loss interventions among Hispanic women in the U.S. This review will identify elements of successful weight loss interventions as well as areas for future research. Methods/Design The following databases will be searched to identify all relevant articles (from inception onwards): PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science (Science Citation Index and Social Sciences Citation Index), PsycINFO, CINAHL, Chicano Database, SPORTDiscus, CAB Abstracts, and Google Scholar. We will include randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies of adult women (> 18 years) from Hispanic/Latino background living in the United States. Eligible interventions will target weight-related behaviors (including diet, physical activity, behavior modification and/or their combinations). The review’s primary outcome will be weight change (expressed as change in lbs/kg or body mass index (BMI) (kg/m2)). Three reviewers will independently screen and select data and two will extract data. The methodological quality (or risk of bias) of individual studies will be appraised using the Effective Public Health Practice Project Quality Assessment Tool. A narrative synthesis will describe quality and content of the evidence. Discussion The aim of this systematic review is to critically examine existing weight loss interventions for Hispanic women in the U.S. and provide quality evidence for the effectiveness of these interventions on weight loss. Further, this review seeks to identify characteristics of effective interventions and suggest future directions for research efforts targeting weight loss in this population. This review will inform the development of future weight loss interventions for this population. Systematic review registration PROSPERO CRD42019119094

Background: For measuring the impact in clinical and scientific research, the citation count of the articles is used in the bibliometric analysis, although there is no comprehensive summary of neurodegenerative disease research. This study intends to provide the neuroscientists and investigators with a practical reference guide to appraise the most important and influential articles written on this subject through a macroscopic view of the research activities on neurodegenerative diseases.Materials and Methods: The Clarivate Analytics Web of Science was searched in July 2020. To ensure the breadth of the search scope, the search terms were confirmed as “multiple sclerosis” (MS) or “amyotrophic lateral sclerosis” (ALS) or “Parkinson's” or “Alzheimer's” or “Huntington's” or “neurodegenerative.” After excluding completely unrelated articles, the top-cited articles were collected and evaluated from special characteristics. The data analysis was performed using SPSS 18.0. The articles were characterized by citation number, publication year, topic, study type, authorship, journal, country, and institute of responding author and foundation. Results: The query identified 593,050 articles. A total of 45% of the top-cited articles were published during 2000–2009, followed by 30 articles from 1990–1999. Diagnosis and pathology were the main research categories (n = 62). Alzheimer's disease (AD) was the main study topic (n = 43). Meanwhile, the United States confirmed the tremendous impact on the field of neurodegenerative diseases. Notably, 69 of 100 articles were studied in the United States, and the National Institutes of Health sponsored 49 articles. There were only 22 articles that can be divided by evidence level. No article was categorized as level 1 evidence. In the journal list with multiple articles, seven of 15 were general journals. The 58 authors, who contributed to more than one article, have been identified by VOSviewer, and the clusters of authors reveal the evolution of research focus in neurodegenerative diseases. Conclusions: This study analyzed the bibliometric characteristics and connections of 100 top-cited articles in the field of neurodegenerative diseases in the Web of Science. Their main outcomes were as follows: First, the pathology and diagnostic researches took a major role in top-cited articles while the therapy articles are relatively less. Second, the United States confirmed the tremendous impact on the field of neurodegenerative diseases. Third, researchers also submitted their researches to general journals, not just focused on specialty journals.

Purpose: This study analyzed the bibliometric characteristics of publications on inclusive education in the Social Science Citation Index and Science Citation Index Expanded in the Web of Science Core Collection from 1992 to 2020.Methods: Terms related to “inclusive education” and “inclusion of education” were used as keywords to search for journal articles on July 3, 2020.Results: There were 1,786 articles, representing 3,376 authors, in the 345 journals scanned. The United States, United Kingdom, and Australia were the three leading countries/regions in this field. In the top 12 countries, the top 15 institutions and the top 10 most-cited journals were identified by either the number of publications or the number of total citations. Core themes from the 30 most highly-cited articles were teachers’ attitudes, teachers’ self-efficacy, and the effects of inclusive education. Teachers included both pre-service and in-service teachers; students represented those with and without special educational needs. Conclusion: The results indicate that the United States, United Kingdom, and Australia dominated inclusive education research, originating most of the highly-cited articles, having more prolific authors, and presenting the most-cited institutions. Furthermore, three emerging core themes from the 30 most highly-cited articles were teachers’ attitudes, teachers’ self-efficacy, and the effects of inclusive education. Frontline teachers are recommended to submit manuscripts about their teaching experiences to the most-cited journals, which have a large readership. To measure the effects of inclusive education, it is essential to formulate reliable, valid, and culture-free research instruments for future studies.

The publication activity of the leading countries in the field of quantum technologies (QT), which include quantum computers and simulators, quantum sensors, quantum data transmission, and quantum metrology is analyzed. A general characteristic of the subject domain and scientometric analysis is carried out using the research chops from the Web of Science database covering the period 2000 – 2016. The sample of bibliographic publications is used to (i) estimate the growth rate of publications on QT in the leading countries (for the indicated period of time), (ii) identify the leading states in the number of publications (on the above-mentioned main directions of QT development), and (iii) determine the publication activity of Russia and the intensity of international cooperation. The results of the research demonstrated, that the USA and China are the leading countries in the field of quantum technologies. Regression dependences are constructed which provide forecasting and description of the functions reflecting the increasing number of publications in aforementioned countries. Using the criterion of signs and the Wilcoxon test for coupled pairs of observations, the hypothesis of significant differences in the publication activity of the United States and China was tested. Both tests at the level of significance α = 0.05 did not reveal significant discrepancies between the number of articles in the US and China on the twelve topics of the Web of Science database. At the same time, a significant advantage of American scientists in the number of publications in the field of quantum computations and creation of a universal quantum computer has been revealed. The primacy in this area is the main condition of «quantum» domination, which implies a significant acceleration of calculations, primarily, decryption of most of the algorithms used to protect information.

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Weight loss and body composition changes are common in patients with pancreatic cancer. Computed tomography (CT) images are helpful to investigate body composition and its changes and to discriminate the different kinds of body tissues. Patients with pancreatic cancer routinely undergo CT scans. OBJECTIVE: To verify the association of muscle mass and visceral fat measured by CT with toxicity and survival of patients with pancreatic cancer. METHODS: We evaluated the imaging of the abdomen of all consecutive adult patients with pancreatic cancer treated between October 2007 and September 2015 in our service, to assess skeletal muscle mass and fat, intramuscular fat and visceral fat. We graded treatment toxicity symptoms according to the Common Toxicity Criteria of the United States National Cancer Institute (version 2.0). RESULTS: The study involved 17 patients, with a mean age of 63 (±10) years (range: 51-73 years). Eleven (65%) were male. The mean initial body mass index (BMI) was 26 kg/m2 (±3) and 23 kg/m2 (±3) after treatment. The mean weight loss was 10.0 kg (±6.8; 13%). Sarcopenia was present in 47% of patients, and it was not associated with significant differences in muscle mass, visceral fat, toxicity or survival. The mean skeletal muscle attenuation was 36 Hounsfield units, not associated with survival or treatment toxicity. Mean muscle mass was not associated with toxicity either. However, there was a significant inverse association between toxicity and visceral fat. CONCLUSION: Muscle mass had no impact on the survival or on treatment toxicity among the patients with pancreatic cancer. However, the visceral fat exerted a protective effect against the treatment toxicity. We stress the importance of further studies on visceral fat associated with prognosis and toxicity in cancer patients.

The absence of quantitative data on published researches in political science preconditioned writing this work. The objective of the research was to study publications in political sciences using bibliometric analysis. Articles in political science published within the period of time from 1970 to 2018 have been separated from the database of the Web of Science (as of March 15, 2018). The acquired records have been analyzed according to the citation characteristics, with publications divisioned depending on the language, country, journal and author. There have been found over 222,5 thousand articles in total, which have been published in various peer-viewed journals. From 2007 to 2017 there was observed a significant increase in the number of articles published on this topic. Most articles are written in English (87.7%), with the United States of America being the leading country in terms of the total number of articles published (over 80 thousand, 35.3%). There is no obvious leader among journals with regard to the number of publications, but four publishers (ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL WEEKLY; NEW REPUBLIC; NEW SOCIETY and NATION) publish the majority of articles on this topic (over 15%) in aggregate. The analysis of the most cited publications allows dividing topics for research into three clusters: election as a part of the political process; transformation of political regimes; global influences and interactions. This research provides a systematic review of efficiency and ostensiveness of research work in the field of political sciences. Conclusions can be used for organizing and determining priorities of future research in political science.
