Encouraging students to become better stewards of the environment and to be more educated in science content knowledge is an important goal of today's educational leaders. Eight lessons were created to aid an established stewardship program (Coastal Roots) in introducing hands-on activities to middle school children in southern Louisiana. Students were tested on science content in the lessons using a pre-test, eight multiple choice quizzes (each focusing on a particular lesson), and a post-test. The “children's attitudes toward the environment scale” test was administered to evaluate environmental awareness changes in the treatment and control group students. Students who received the horticulture lessons improved their post-test scores by 11.4 points (P ≤ 0.05) in the first year and 25.07 points (P ≤ 0.0001) in the second year of the study. Significant increases in individual lessons were found both years. In the second year, students who received the lessons were more aware of their role in the environment than those who did not receive the additional lessons (P ≤ 0.01). The addition of horticulture lessons to the middle school curriculum enhanced student knowledge and stewardship of the environment.

This study aimed at finding the effectiveness of Spot it! Card Game in enhancing students’ English vocabulary mastery in distance learning. The research used a quasi-experimental research design. The participants were the second year students of SMA Pesantren Modern Datuk Sulaeman Palopo Bagian Putri which were divided into experimental group and control group consisted of 20 students in each group. The result indicates that the students of the experimental group have significant improvement of the mean score which is5,42 on Pre-test classified as Poor to 8,89 on Post-test classified as Very Good after given treatment using Spot It! Card Game. Meanwhile, students of the control group show slight improvement which is 6,36 on pre-test classified as Fair to 7,91 on post-test classified as Good after given treatment using the conventional method. It means enhancing students’ vocabulary mastery using Spot It! Card Game is more effective than using the conventional methods in distance learning.

This study is aimed at finding out the effect of Engage, Study, Activate technique on students’ achievement in writing narrative text. This research applied experimental design. The instrument used to collect the data was a written test. The population was the 2015/2016 second year students (grade VIII) of SMP N 1 Sei Rampah. There were nine paralel classes that consisted of 30 students. The total number of the population were 270 students. The total number of the sample were 60 students. The researcher selected the sample by choosing only 2 classes  by using sampling technique. The sample was divided into two groups, experimental group and control group. The experimental group was taught by applying Engage, Study, Activate technique while the control group was taught without applying Engage, Study, Activate technique. The data were taken by administering the pre-test and post-test to both control and experimental groups. These data were analyzed by using t-test. The result of computing the t-test obviously showed that t-observed (4.383) is higher than t-table (1.671) with the degree of freedom (df= 58) at the level significance 0.05 one tail test. It means that alternative hypothesis stating that there is a significant effect of Engage, Study, Activate technique on students’ achievement in writing narrative text is accepted. This research was carried out on the second year students of MTs N Mangempang Barru. The writer employed a quasi-experimental design. This research assigned two groups namely experimental and control group. Each group consists of 24 students. The sample was using cluster random sampling. The experiment group of were taught by using stories while in other group taught by using mono text. The instrument of this research was writing descriptive text. The data obtained through the test were analyzed by using inferential analysis by some formulas. Based on the result of research the mean score of post test of experimental group (73.42) was higher than the control group (69.50). The result of the t-test value (2.99) was higher than t-table value (2.021) . in other words, Ho was rejected and H1 was accepted..This means that the use of stories significantly improved the students’ writing ability of the second year students of MTs N Mangempang Barru.

This study was focused on the investigation of The Effect of Using Posterson Students’ Achievement in Writing Hortatory Exposition Text. This study aimsat findings whether using posters as the media affect the students’ writingachievement or not. This study used an experimental research design with twovariables, namely using posters as independent variable and students’achievement in writing hortatory exposition text as dependent variable. Thepopulation of this study was the 2014/2015 second year students (grade XI) ofSMA Budi Agung Medan and 60 students were taken as the sample. The samplewas divided into two groups, experimental group and control group. Theexperimental group was taught by using posters while the control group wastaught without using posters. The instrument used in this study was a written test. The data were taken by administering the pre-test and post-test to both control andexperimental groups. These data were analyzed by using t-test. The result ofcomputing the t-test obviously showed that t-observed is higher than t-table (3.12> 1.67) with the degree of freedom 58 (df = N-2) at the level significance 0.05 onetail test. It showed that the using of posters affects the students’ achievement inwriting hortatory exposition text.

The research was aimed to find out the effect of gallery walk strategy toward reading comprehension of the second year students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru. The design of this research was quasi-experimental research with an experimental group and control group pre-test and post-test. These two groups were selected to be a sample by using cluster random sampling. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. It was found that t-test score was 2.351 while the t-table was 2.001. Since t-test score was higher than t-table, it can be concluded that alternative hypothesis was accepted. It means that there is a significant effect of gallery walk strategy on reading comprehension of the second year students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Pekanbaru.

The objective of this study is to measure whether there is or not significant effect of teaching reading by utilizing Hot Potatoes software toward students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text. The variables used were the teaching treatment of Hot Potatoes Software as the independent variable and the students’ reading comprehension of Descriptive Text as dependent variable. Then, the research designed was Quasi-experimental design and the presentation of data used was quantitative. The data were obtained from the eleventh grade, of which 28 students were taken as sample. The students are divided into two groups; experiment group consisted of 12 students and control group consists of 16 students. To get the data, the pre-test and post-test were applied and then analyzed using t-test formula. The researcher had concluded that there is Significant effect of Hot Potatoes Software toward the students’ reading comprehension achievement. The result showed that mean of students’ post-test was increased. It is proved by the t-test (8.54) which is higher than t-table (2.05) at level of significance 5%. This study focused on finding out the effect of applying RAP (Read, Ask,Paraphrase) Strategy on students’ reading comprehension in reading analyticalexposition text. This study was conducted in experimental design. The populationof this research was the second year of students in SMA Swasta Katolik BudiMurni 2 Medan. There were seventy students of the second year senior highschool students as the sample of the research. This study was conducted with tworandomized groups namely Experimental Group and Control Group. Theexperimental group was taught by applying RAP Strategy, while the control groupwas taught by applying conventional strategy. The instrument of collecting thedata was multiple choice tests which consisted of 25 items. The data wereanalyzed by using t-test formula. The calculation shown that t-observed (5.36)was higher than t-table (1.994) at the level of significance (α) 0.05 with the degreeof freedom (df) 68.
