We report on the status of efforts to improve the reinterpretation of searches and measurements at the LHC in terms of models for new physics, in the context of the LHC Reinterpretation Forum. We detail current experimental offerings in direct searches for new particles, measurements, technical implementations and Open Data, and provide a set of recommendations for further improving the presentation of LHC results in order to better enable reinterpretation in the future. We also provide a brief description of existing software reinterpretation frameworks and recent global analyses of new physics that make use of the current data.

The status of searches for new particles and new physics during the past year at the Fermilab Tevatron, at HERA and at LEP is summarized. A discussion of the hints for the Standard Model Higgs boson from LEP2 data is presented. Searches for non-Standard Model Higgs bosons are also described. Many searches have been carried out for the particles predicted by supersymmetry theories, and a sampling of these is given. There have also been searches for flavor changing neutral currents in the interactions of the top quark. In addition, searches for excited leptons, leptoquarks and technicolor are summarized.

This study explored the underlying processes associated with the policy of increasing qualified physical education teachers (QPETs) in Singapore primary schools. Data were collected from the National Archives of Singapore, Newslink, NewpaperSG and documents. An ‘archaeological analysis’ by Foucault (1972) was used to trace the discursive conditions which enabled and facilitated the policy. Three distinct elements were borrowed from ‘The Archaeology of Knowledge and the Discourse on Language’, namely: the status – as reflected in the positions of individuals influencing the PE policies and initiatives; the institutional sites – as in the locations of the decisions being exercised, and; the situation – identified by the key events leading to the decision to increase QPETs in primary schools. The conclusions based on the analysis of these elements offer a clearer understanding of the various contributions to the adoption of the policy and serve to provide an insightful lens to policymakers who might seek to redesign the future shape of Physical Education.

There is no question that contemporary western civilization has beendominant in the field of science since the Renaissance. Infact, its flaws ate becoming mote visible. In the last few decades, westernscience has begun to experience a shift from what is called classical scienceto new science. Classical science was associated with the celestialmechanics of Copernicus, Kepler, Newton, the new physics of Galileo,and the philosophy of Descartes. Descartes introduced a radical divisionbetween mind and matter, while Newton and his fellows presented a newscience that looked at the world as a kind of giant clock The laws of thisworld were time-reversible, for it was held that there was no differencebetween past and future. Alvin Toffler’s writings encapsulated many of the tensions of futurism: the way that futurology and futures studies oscillated between forms of utopianism and technocracy with global ambitions, and between new forms of activism, on the one hand, and emerging forms of consultancy and paid advice on the other. Paradoxically, in their desire to create new images of the future capable of providing exits from the status quo of the Cold War world, futurists reinvented the technologies of prediction that they had initially rejected, and put them at the basis of a new activity of futures advice. Consultancy was central to the field of futures studies from its inception. For futurists, consultancy was a form of militancy—a potentially world altering expertise that could bypass politics and also escaped the boring halls of academia.

Abstract The $$ \mathcal{CP} $$ CP structure of the Higgs boson in its coupling to the particles of the Standard Model is amongst the most important Higgs boson properties which have not yet been constrained with high precision. In this study, all relevant inclusive and differential Higgs boson measurements from the ATLAS and CMS experiments are used to constrain the $$ \mathcal{CP} $$ CP -nature of the top-Yukawa interaction. The model dependence of the constraints is studied by successively allowing for new physics contributions to the couplings of the Higgs boson to massive vector bosons, to photons, and to gluons. In the most general case, we find that the current data still permits a significant $$ \mathcal{CP} $$ CP -odd component in the top-Yukawa coupling. Furthermore, we explore the prospects to further constrain the $$ \mathcal{CP} $$ CP properties of this coupling with future LHC data by determining tH production rates independently from possible accompanying variations of the $$ t\overline{t}H $$ t t ¯ H rate. This is achieved via a careful selection of discriminating observables. At the HL-LHC, we find that evidence for tH production at the Standard Model rate can be achieved in the Higgs to diphoton decay channel alone.

Belarusian citizens elected their first president in 1994. More than 20 years later, in October 2015, the same person triumphantly won the fifth consecutive presidential election. In August 2020, President Lukashenko’s attempt to get re-elected for the sixth time ended in months’ long mass protests against the electoral fraud, unspeakable violence used by the riot police against peaceful protesters and the deepest political crisis in the modern history of Belarus. This article analyzes how and why the first democratically elected Belarusian president attained this long-serving status. It suggests that his political longevity was conditioned by a specific social contract with the society that was sustained for many years. In light of the recent events, it is obvious that the contract is breached with the regime no longer living up to the bargain with the Belarusian people. As a result, the citizens seem unwilling to maintain their obligation for loyalty. We analyze the escalating daily price for maintaining the status quo and conclude considering the possible implications of this broken pact for the future of Belarus.

Abstract This paper describes the status of the API project to develop and maintain Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) methodology for application within the petroleum and chemical industry. The original project has now moved from a “development” phase into an “implement and improve” phase. This paper describes the essential features of API RBI, the most recent enhancements, software features, the future direction for the project, and some user experiences. This paper also describes the acceptance of RBI by various API codes and standards, by jurisdictional authorities, and it also describes the development of an API recommended practice on RBI (API RP 580) as well as the development of an ASME standard on RBI.
