Students perception of parental support or involvement on students achievements motivation seems to be a critical issue. The study examined the support parents give to their children and the relationship between those supports and students achievement motivation in Business Management in Senior High Schools in Cape Coast Metropolis. This study adopted descriptive research design and used a sample of 200 Senior High School Business Management students. The data collected to answer research question 1 and 2 were done using means and standard deviation. Results indicated that parents supported and involved themselves in their wards education. Again, findings revealed that students associated strong relation between parental support and students achievement motivation in Business Management. The study recommends that as parents are already supporting and involving themselves in their childrens education, it dawns on them to also provide guidance and counselling for their wards. Also, parents should be encouraged to maintain and if possible, increase the level of support they are already providing. The study further concludes that parents should provide all forms of supports to their wards including financial and emotional support of which they are all equally important.

This study was conducted to determine the level of academic quality compliance of public secondary high schools and its predictors as input to strengthen institutional profiling. The respondents of the study were 167 teachers and school managers in (9) public secondary junior high schools in the City Schools Division of San Jose del Monte Bulacan for the School Year 2017-2018. The descriptive research design was used employing the predictive technique in determining the influence of respondents’ profile, institutions’ profile variables and the management capability factors as the academic quality compliance of the schools. The findings revealed that the schools’ academic quality compliance on leadership and governance is predicted by the NAT (Beta = .431), promotion rate (Beta= 1.170), and enrollment rate (Beta = .747).  The management capability on quality instruction predicts the schools’ academic quality compliance on curriculum and learning (Beta = .971) and the academic quality compliance on accountability and continuous improvement is influenced by the management capability on quality instruction. The promotion rate of the school predicts the academic quality compliance of the school in the area of management of resources (Beta =.671). The hypothesis stating that the respondent's profile, institutional profile, and management capability, singly or combination predict the schools' academic quality compliance is partly sustained.

Background/Context A common perspective found in the literature on classroom activity structures hypothesizes that a whole-class mode of instruction is linked with increased problems of achievement motivation for low-achieving students. If whole-class methods of instruction (e.g., recitation-style question-and-answer sessions) are rich in evaluation and foster social comparisons among students, low-achieving students may become disengaged in an effort to avoid negative evaluations. It is important to consider the evidence on activity structures and engagement carefully because this perspective represents a sweeping critique, concluding essentially that the predominant mode of instruction in American schools is detrimental to achieving widespread educational success. Purpose/Objective/Research Question/Focus of Study Are whole-class modes of instruction linked with increased problems of achievement motivation and disengagement for low-achieving students? Research Design This study is a review of research on the association between student engagement and activity structure. We review both quantitative and qualitative studies investigating the link between activity structure and student engagement, with an emphasis on studies that identify an interaction between students’ level of achievement, activity structure, and engagement. In interpreting the evidence, we focus on studies of classroom discourse—particularly studies of dialogic and scaffolding instruction, which illustrate variability in the effects of whole-class instruction on student engagement. Conclusions/Recommendations Although many relationships between motivational climates and levels of engagement have been clearly documented, we find no conclusive evidence of a link between whole-class instruction and disengagement among low-achieving students. Research on classroom discourse illustrates that the activities that constitute whole-class instruction are not inherently problematic for low-achieving students and can, in fact, promote engagement.

Pragmatics is concerned with the study of meaning as communicated by speaker or writer and interpreted by a listener or a reader. It has consequently more to do with the analysis of what people mean by their utterances. Describing the types of presupposition by the utterances in a talk show named Golden Ways is the objective of this research. The subject of this research is a talk show entitled maturity. The data are some utterances said by the speaker and heard by the hearer. Utterances between the host and the audiences from this show can show the presupposition. The writer analyzed the types of presupposition by Yule’s theory (1996) to find out what types are often used in this talk show. The data analysis is conducted by classifying and categorizing the data to find the inferences. The writer uses a descriptive method because it describes the presupposition in the talk show and it was suitable to the purpose of the study. As Monsen stated (2008: 5) the descriptive research often illustrates a relevant but non quantified topic involving a well-focused research question. It generates narrative data that describe words instead of numbers. The writer has found all six types of presupposition which applied in this talk show. This research shows that presupposition always exist in utterances.

Background/Context As opportunities for public and private single-sex education have expanded, the debate surrounding this issue has become more heated. Recent reviews of research on single-sex education have concluded that the evidence is mixed, due in large part to the difficulty of attributing differences between single-sex and coeducational students specifically to the single-sex nature of their experience, as opposed to other differences between single-sex and coeducational schools and their attendees. This study comes at a time of renewed national interest in the value and appropriateness of single-sex education, especially as changes to Title IX have expanded the opportunities to establish single-sex classes and activities, and contributes new data with a focus exclusively on the academic engagement of female students from single-sex and coeducational high schools. Purpose/Objective/Research Question/Focus of Study This study addresses whether levels of academic engagement differ between single-sex and coeducational settings. Research Design The study uses self-reported survey data and multilevel modeling to address secondary school-level effects in a national sample of women entering college. Findings/Results The analyses suggest that attendance at a single-sex high school remains a significant predictor of academic engagement even after controlling for the confounding role of student background characteristics, school-level features, and peer contexts within each school. Specifically, women attending all-girls high schools report higher levels of academic engagement across numerous fronts: studying individually or in groups, interacting with teachers, tutoring other students, and getting involved in student organizations. However, these results may also be attributed to other features that differentiate single-sex from coeducational schools, such as smaller enrollments and racial/ethnic diversity of the schools in this study. Conclusions/Recommendations Although the results of this study support the claims that all-female environments provide a unique opportunity for young women to thrive, these results should be interpreted with some caution. Because of the limitations of the study, it is difficult to make definitive inferences about the relationship between single-sex education and academic engagement, and we cannot assert with confidence that school gender alone is responsible for higher academic engagement. The study points the way for future research that further distinguishes the role of individual and school-level attributes and ideally examines this issue using longitudinal data. Finally, given the current expansion of single-sex education in the public schools, future research ought to employ these methodological advances in studies on single-sex public education and should consider the consequences of single-sex settings for both female and male students.
