Currently, the majority of Chinese teaching materials used in Indonesia has general characteristic usage, and poorly addresses the true needs of Indonesia students. The Chinese teaching materials used in Indonesia are not country-specific but only translated into Indonesian language. This paper evaluated six books, consisting three types of elementary Chinese teaching materials thoroughly observed Indonesian language translation, and analyzed translation issues that occur in the Chinese language teaching materials. Through this observation, it can be seen in translation aspect, still not appropriate for Indonesian students.

<p>The purpose of this study was to identify the Chinese language teaching materials for students of business and management majors in a vocational high school. This research method was qualitative. The process of collecting data used observation activities, interviews and questionnaires. This study found that the Chinese teaching materials which have been used in a vocational high school especially in business and management majors were still general and not relevant to the needs of students. The results of this study also indicated that the expected design of Chinese language teaching materials should be specifically integrated to the students’ majors and the competency levels of their expertise. In addition, the teaching materials also should be designed with multimedia to support the learning process and students’ experiences.</p><p><strong>BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK: </strong>Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kebutuhan model materi ajar bahasa Mandarin untuk Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Bidang Bisnis dan Manajemen. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan proses pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara dan kuesioner. Melalui penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa materi ajar bahasa Mandarin yang selama ini digunakan di Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan Bidang Bisnis dan Manajemen merupakan materi ajar yang bersifat umum dan belum memenuhi kebutuhan siswa. Hasil dari analisis kebutuhan menunjukkan bahwa materi ajar bahasa Mandarin yang diharapkan adalah materi ajar yang terintegrasi dan relevan dengan bidang dan program studi siswa sehingga dapat mendukung keahlian utamanya. Terlebih lagi materi ajar bahasa Mandarin yang diharapkan saat ini adalah materi ajar yang dikemas dengan basis multimedia.</p>

This article analyzes an Indonesian version of Contemporary Chinese teaching material. It is found that in this teaching material there are several problems relating to the content of text, translation, and context of text if it is used by Indonesian students. Therefore, it needs to consider “five elements” of language, cultural, and teaching principles in compiling the Chinese teaching materials for Indonesian students.

Teaching material is a foundation of language learning. It is also a very important tool in teaching and learning process. Especially for students who learnt in non-Chinese environment, during the learning process, they can only rely on teachers and teaching materials. Article was based on previous research about teaching methods. Article used two teaching materials that have Indonesian language translation Contemporary Chinese and Chuji Biaozhun Huayu. Besides, it compared the content and designed to analyze the similarities and differences of these teaching materials. Through the analysis, research gives solution in teaching materials design.

Article discussed the writing principles that must be considered in compiling Chinese language teaching material specifically used for Marketing Communication students regarding the interest and target of Marketing Communication of Bina Nusantara University. The methodologies used are descriptive quantitative for distributing questionnaires and qualitative approach through observation and interview. Research found the appropriate and effective Chinese language teaching material would enhance the standard of Chinese language learning. At present, Chinese language teaching material used by Marketing Communication students has not been able to fulfill their requirements. In addition, the target learners of the teaching material are universal.

This study aimed to get the criteria for English language teaching materials needed by Padang State Polytechnic Information and Technology students and evaluate English teaching materials that were used to determine the level of compatibility of teaching materials used with criteria obtained in terms of language, content, and methodology. This research was an evaluation research. Questionnaires, interviews, and analysis formats were used to obtain data. The results of data analysis showed that: (1) criteria for English language teaching materials were needed by students majoring in Information and Technology in terms of language indicated that the teaching material used was in accordance with the needs of students, majors, and their level of English; in terms of the content of teaching material used had an emphasis on speaking and listening skills and teaching materials used for writing and reading were still lack; in terms of the methodology of teaching materials used were equipped with activities that train speaking skills so that training and assignments were focused on practicing speaking skills. (2) The level of compatibility of teaching material in terms of language was 58%. (3) The level of compatibility of teaching material in terms of contents, namely 42%. (4) The level of compatibility of teaching materials used in terms of methodology was 42%. Based on the results of the study, it could be concluded that students majoring in Information and Technology needed material that could improve their listening and speaking skills, then the material used in writing and reading was further reproduced.

Article outlines how multimedia is used in the classroom in the Chinese department of Bina Nusantara University. The Binusmaya system standardizes teaching and online communication. Multimedia is an effective supplement to traditional classroom based-teaching of Chinese. Multimedia can increase the learning motivation and improve teaching efficiency. Multimedia also plays a very important role in improving classroom based-teaching of Chinese, teaching standards and enhances a closer relationship between teachers and students.
