Online Learning amid the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Case Study of the State Islamic University of Mataram

This research aims to investigate the challenges and opportunities of the use of information technology in an online learning at the State Islamic University of Mataram (UIN Mataram) during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research incorporates a survey to identify the use of information technology among students. The sample used in this research was the first semester students of the State Islamic University of Mataram (UIN Mataram). The research results indicate that 27.3% of students did not have laptops, 61.8% of students experienced difficulties accessing the telecommunication signal in their home town, and 10.9% experienced electricity problems during online learning. The use of Google Classroom and WhatsApp group media is prevalent at the university during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.

[The Use of the Online "Testmoz" Test Integrated with Google Classroom as an Alternative Online Learning Tool]. This study aimed to explore students’ acceptance level of the online-based assessment tool “Testmoz” integrated with Google classroom on chemistry courses. The subjects were 51 students of the fifth semester at Jurusan Tadris Kimia IAIN Tulungagung selected by purposive sampling. The method used in this study was a one-shot case study design. Data obtained from students’ questionnaires and interviews before the Covid-19 pandemic start to begin. The result shows 93,30% accepting the level of Testmoz integrated with Google classroom. These findings were supported by students’ interview data as a user that overall result was positive and shows support. The additional result shows the high interest of rural students through learning innovation using the help of information technology. These results may support the learning process on pandemic conditions that use digital platforms such as the Learning Management System (LMS) as supporting tools of learning in this era.

This chapter deals with the use of Applets, which are examples of software applications, combined with a specific methodology of teaching, based on Paulo Freire’s education concepts. According to his methods, co-creation between its participants is fundamental for the effectiveness of learning process. In that way, to promote a cooperative learning, the Applet should have interactive features. The Chemistry course of Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo, in which students take in the first semester of the first year of the engineering course, was the case study. First, a research with the teachers of the Chemical Engineering Department was carried out, to identify the main problems and difficulties teachers and students face. Then, a topic was selected to be explored with the Applet, which was developed and applied to a small group of students. To identify the success of this experiment a questionnaire was created and the results are presented in this chapter. Some conclusions were drawn and the interactive features of the Applet received a positive feedback.

Higher education is changing. Driven by the need to increase productivity, quality, and access while meeting the challenges of competition, universities, especially state-assisted institutions, are seeking ways to do more with less governmental support. Information technology (IT) is perhaps the enabling tool that will bring transformative change (Oblinger & Rush, 1997). The organizations that have had primary managerial responsibility for IT implementation on many campuses need to change and be restructured if the technology is to live up to its potential. This case study provides an overview of the process utilized in implementing a broad-based strategy to address the information technology needs of a large public university, the University of Memphis. It deals at length with the planning and creation of an IT governance structure and a strategic planning and management model. In this case, modern theories of organizational change and strategic planning were applied to the creation and improvement of the University’s IT structure.

This chapter provides an overview of particular issues of diversity and technology within an island university. The chapter’s central focus rests on the complexity of both concepts within the context of higher education in the Pacific. In particular, the chapter highlights both the challenges and opportunities that the university faces as it attempts to address the unique multicultural landscape of the Western Pacific region and its technological realities. It focuses on a capstone senior-level course as a case study, and explores the possibilities inherent in directly addressing issues of diversity and technology while at the same time accomplishing the course’s prescribed academic goals. The chapter concludes by outlining 10 important lessons learned from the experience that others can benefit from, and establishes the importance of such a capstone experience for both students and faculty alike.

Purpose – As a model of competency-based education (CBE), the University of Wisconsin (UW) System Flex options present a unique case study of challenges and opportunities for embedding student-centered library services and information literacy. Design/methodology/approach – In this paper, we describe strategies for engaging with the evolving Flex curriculum, the needs of an unknown student body and the role of new student support staff. The author notes the relevance of examining the library’s role in Flex at this time, given the potential for growth nationally in CBE. Findings – The challenges the author faced initially were closely tied with opportunities that once examined, formed the basis of the embedded library model for competency-based education. Further, the author found opportunities to articulate their role in Flex on their campus and share with other institutions. Originality/value – This case study is based on the author’s experiences embedding Information Literacy and Distance Services in the Flex option at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.

The rapid development of information technology can answer problems that arise after the Covid-19 pandemic, especially problems in the learning process. Information technology that plays a role in the world of education which is currently booming is online learning. Online learning is different from ordinary learning, online learning places more emphasis on student's ability to receive and process information. Online learning serves as a liaison between teachers and students through the internet network that can be accessed anytime and anywhere. There are various online media used in the learning process including; WhatsApp, Google Meet, Zoom, Classroom, and even e-learning. But among these media, the easiest to use is WhatsApp, which is easily accessible at every level of education. Online learning is now an effective medium for the learning process at all levels. For an effective and optimal online learning process, there are several learning models offered by experts during the Covid-19 pandemic, including; Online Model, Offline Model, Online e-learning Model, Project-Based Learning, and Blended Learning.

Entre los avances espectaculares que a nivel social y económico se reportan en los últimos años con la apertura de la Revolución Ciudadana en el Ecuador, cabe destacar el incremento de las posibilidades de acceso a las universidades de las clases menos favorecidas; pero paradójicamente ha surgido de manera asociada otro de los grandes males que afecta a la institución universitaria, que resulta el alto porcentaje de estudiantes que abandonan los estudios antes de finalizarlos, con un impacto económico negativo para los esfuerzos que realiza el estado en este sentido. En el trabajo se presenta un análisis teórico vinculado con los problemas del abandono de los estudios universitarios en el mundo, en Latinoamérica y especialmente en la Universidad Técnica de Manabí, donde se propone un caso de estudio con el objetivo de profundizar en la problemática, develar sus causas y proponer un conjunto de medidas encaminadas a reducir las consecuencias de esa problemática social. Among them, it is taken into account the possibilities of increasing the access of the lower classes to the universities. Absurdly there has appeared some troubles affecting the university. These difficulties consists of the highest percentage of students who drop out the studies before ending each college career, and resulting in a negative economic impact on the efforts of the state in this regard. There is no one best course through a Doctorate of Business Administration program but there are paths that maximize your time and value. Some people will wander through the research wilderness until having an epiphany, while others will treat the program like a journey-man and “do the work”, and still others will panic at the end of the third semester and “have to pick a topic for the dissertation”. If you enter the program with even a general idea of your research interest, then there is a different approach. Rob Hammond is a member of the inaugural cohort of the Muma College of Business DBA program at the University of South Florida. For almost 30 years he has worked in and around sales, marketing and product in large corporations. Rob witnessed enormous waste in sales training and thought it could be done differently. This was his topic of interest. Rob also had an idea from his experiences of what might be causing the issue. About half way through the first semester, Rob was picking the next paper topic and decided that he would adopt the strategy that he would try to find a way to advance his understanding of his research area in every class. This strategy became the navigation beacon for his DBA journey. This case is documenting this strategy along with a collection of his experiences from the DBA program for the readers in hopes that it may provide future students a few more restful nights as they begin their own academic journeys.

Este artigo tem o objetivo de apresentar como a Qualidade de Vida no Trabalho (QVT) pode ser inserida em mercados competitivos, como o das organizações de Tecnologia da informação (TI) que comumente tem dificuldades para reter talentos. Quando a QVT é trabalhada sob uma óptica preventiva, que se contrapõem as visões assistencialistas e hegemônicas, a QVT poderá ser uma ferramenta que interfere diretamente na motivação dos colaboradores, levando a uma maior eficiência e eficácia organizacional, sendo um dos diferenciais para o êxito nos negócios e no bem-estar dos colaboradores. Esta pesquisa visa focar especificamente a QVT à luz do método de Walton, a partir de um estudo de caso sobre uma microempresa de TI no interior do Estado de São Paulo.Palavras-Chave: Qualidade de Vida no Trabalho.
