Background and Objective:Diagnosis and treatment of chronic orofacial pain are one of the most challenging issues in dentistry. The purpose of this study was to assess the knowledge of general dentists regarding orofacial pain in Kermanshah, Iran. Methods:This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2016 including general dentists of Kermanshah city. A researcher-designed questionnaire was administered to collect demographic data as well as measuring knowledge of the dentists in four sections including etiology, clinical presentations, physical examination, and treatment of chronic orofacial pain. The questionnaire had acceptable validity (content validity > 0.9) and reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient= 0.857 for test re-test; Cronbach’s alpha= 0.72 for internal consistency). The data were analyzed by the SPSS software (ver. 18.0) using Spearman’s correlation coefficient (P< 0.05).Results:There were 121 male (72.9%) and 45 female (27.1%) dentists with mean (SD) age of 40.55 (8.03) years and mean (SD) practice history of 13.28 (8.43) years. Mean (SD) knowledge score was 10.54 (2.36) (maximum possible score= 15). 48.2% of dentists had good knowledge in overall. 48.2% about etiology, 45.2% about clinical presentations, 36.1% about physical examination, and 7.8% about treatment had good knowledge. Knowledge had direct and significant relationship with age (r = 0.179;P= 0.022) and practice history (r = 0.18;P= 0.021).Conclusion:The results showed that the studied dentists did not have enough knowledge about chronic orofacial pain especially in the treatment field. Therefore, it is recommended to implement educational programs to improve their knowledge.

Background: Orofacial Pain (OFP) is a group of non-dental painful conditions affecting the oral cavity and facial area. Objectives: The objective of this study was to explore which barriers to manage the patient with chronic OFP as perceived by general dentists versus dental specialists and to investigate whether if professionals with degrees from their home country versus another country or number of years of professional experience differ in their perceptions. Methods: A closed-end questionnaire was hand-delivered to 600 participants [300 general dentists and 300 dental specialists] in four major provinces in Saudi Arabia. Demographic data were expressed as frequency. Proportional t-tests and chi-square tests were used to analyse intergroup differences. Statistical significance for all analyses was set at P-value < 0.05. Results: Overall, the response rate was 56.6% (340/600). Around two-thirds of the participants were general dentists (60.9%), while the remainder were dental specialists (39.1%). There was an obvious consensus by the participants that “Low payment/reimbursement” and “Lack of OFP knowledge” were among the most common barriers (85% and 83.5%, respectively). In contrast, “Legal risks” were the least frequently reported factor (38.8%). The most commonly reported barrier by general dentists was “Shortage of patients/lack of demand;” this was significantly different from the experience of dental specialists (87% vs. 72.2%; P- value < 0.01). In terms of the country of graduation or years of experience, there were no significant differences. Conclusion: The study demonstrates the existence of many significant barriers other than OFP knowledge, such as reimbursement, facility and demand that could present obstacles and challenges to the management of OFP by general dentists and dental specialists. Most participants believed that dentists should manage this condition and that OFP courses should be included in the dental school curriculum.

Purpose: Purpose of this study is to evaluate the measuring consistency of central refraction between multispectral refraction topography (MRT) and autorefractometry. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study including subjects in Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital from September 1, 2020, to December 31, 2020, ages 20 to 35 years with a best corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better. All patients underwent cycloplegia, and the refractive status was estimated with autorefractometer, experienced optometrist and MRT. We analyzed the central refraction of the autorefractometer and MRT. The repeatability and reproducibility of values measured using both devices were evaluated using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs).Results: A total of 145 subjects ages 20 to 35 (290 eyes) were enrolled. The mean central refraction of the autorefractometer was −4.69 ± 2.64 diopters (D) (range −9.50 to +4.75 D), while the mean central refraction of MRT was −4.49 ± 2.61 diopters (D) (range −8.79 to +5.02 D). Pearson correlation analysis revealed a high correlation between the two devices. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) also showed high agreement. The intrarater and interrater ICC values of central refraction were more than 0.90 in both devices and conditions. At the same time, the mean central refraction of experienced optometrist was −4.74 ± 2.66 diopters (D) (range −9.50 to +4.75D). The intra-class correlation coefficient of central refraction measured by MRT and subjective refraction was 0.939.Conclusions: Results revealed that autorefractometry, experienced optometrist and MRT show high agreement in measuring central refraction. MRT could provide a potential objective method to assess peripheral refraction.

Abstract Background: Occupational back pain is the most prevalent health problem among nurses and needs to be assessed by a valid and multi-factorial questionnaire. The purpose of the present study was to design and develop an instrument based on the PRECEDE-PROCEED model for assessing job-related behaviors that cause low back pain. Methods: First an item pool of 49 items was generated. Then, content and face validity was carried out. Consequently, a cross-sectional study was conducted in Mazandaran, Iran. The questionnaire was distributed among a sample of nurses working in hospitals affiliated to Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences. Exploratory factor analysis was used to determine the factor structure of the questionnaire. The Cronbach’s alpha was estimated to assess the reliability and the intraclass correlation coefficient was calculated to examine stability. Results: In all 155 nurses participated in the study. The mean age of respondents was 34.1 (SD = 7.66) years, and 83.2% were female. Six factors with 30 items emerged from the exploratory factor analysis: knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, reinforcing factors, enabling factors and behavior that jointly accounted for %66.5 of behavior change variance observed. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient showed excellent internal consistency (alpha=0.92). The intraclass correlation coefficient with 2-weeks interval also indicated that the questionnaire has satisfactory stability (ICC = 0.97). Conclusions: The findings showed that the Occupational Back Pain Prevention Behavior Questionnaire is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring occupational back pain and prevention behaviors among nurses. Dengue fever is a severe fever that is often deadly, caused by a virus, characterized by capillary permeability, hemostasis abnormalities and in severe cases, shock syndrome loss of protein. The disease is divided into several degrees. To ensure patients suffer from DENGUE disease, it is necessary to perform physical and laboratory examinations such as hematology tests. This study aims to analyze the results of physical examinations and laboratories of DBD degrees I and II at H.Sahudin Kutacane Hospital. The study used descriptive methods with a Cross Sectional approach. Accidental sampling and the number of samples obtained is 20 respondents, among others, degrees I and II are 10 respondents. The data collection tool is carried out using observation sheets including demographic data, physical examination of DBD degrees I and II, and normal standard numbers and laboratory examination units of Amanah Kutacane Clinic. The results of research conducted from a physical examination of DBD degrees I and II show signs and symptoms of DENGUD disease that appear differently because in addition to the condition of a person's body response is different, It may also be because it has been given symptomatic and supportive treatment, while the laboratory results of DBD degrees I and II are only platelets whose value is low from normal numbers (150,000-450,000/μl) of 88,500/μl and 42,300/μl respectively and these laboratory results are affected by adequate fluid and oxygen intake and nutritious food intake so as to support proper administration of action/management

Abstract Addressing physical activity (PA) barriers is an essential component of increasing PA among the 56-73% of community-dwelling adults 50 years and older who are not performing the recommended 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous PA. As there is no feasible, multi-factorial tool to assess PA barriers among this population, we developed and validated a PA barrier assessment tool called the Inventory of Physical Activity Barriers (IPAB). We collected cross-sectional data on 503 adults (mean age 70.1), with 79 participants completing the scale twice for test-retest reliability and 64 completing a cross-over design examining the ability to use two administration formats interchangeably. Our analyses consisted of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach alpha, intraclass correlation coefficient, Bland-Altman Plot, and t-tests. Using factor analysis, we identified and confirmed an eight-factor solution consisting of 27 items. The 27-item IPAB is internally consistent (alpha= 0.91), has a high test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient=0.99), and can differentiate between individuals who meet the recommended levels of PA and those who do not (p < 0.001). The IPAB scores ranged between 1.00-3.11 for the paper format (mean=1.78) and 1.07-3.48 for the electronic format (mean=1.78), with no statistical difference between the paper and electronic administration formats (p=0.94), resulting in the conclusion that the two administration formats can be used interchangeably. Participant feedback illustrates that the IPAB is easy to use, has clear instruction, and is an appropriate length. The newly validated IPAB scale can be used to develop individualized PA interventions that address PA barriers among patients 50 years and older.

IntroductionThe PHQ-9 has been recommended as the best available screening and case-finding instrument for primary care based on its brevity, and ability to inform the clinicians on both depression severity and diagnostic criteria.ObjectiveOur study evaluated the reliability and the validity of the Tunisian version of the PHQ-9 in detecting major depression in general population.MethodWe undertook a cross-sectional and analytical study. A total of 134 participants, representative of the Tunisian general population, were enrolled. The PHQ-9 was validated against the HAD reference standard. The types of validity determined for the PHQ-9 in this study were: translation validity, internal reliability and criterion validity.ResultsTest-Retest reliability was determined by intraclass correlation. This scale is stable over 2 weeks (ICC = 0.97). The Tunisian version of the PHQ-9 was found to have good internal reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.84). As for criterion validity of the PHQ-9, the Pearson's correlation coefficient between the PHQ-9 and HAD was 0.94 and the Spearman's correlation coefficient was 0.81. This indicated a positive association of good strength between the two instruments. A cut-off score of 10 or higher on the PHQ-9 had a sensitivity of 86.2 and a specificity of 83.8. The VPP was 0.6 and the VPN was 0.9.ConclusionThe Tunisan version of the PHQ-9 has several potential advantages. It was found to be a valid and reliable casefinding instrument for detecting depression in general population.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.
