The study investigated experiences of archery national champions regarding their use of English language at the international athlete village. The slowly growing recognition of the issue in the language barrier was discovered. Three female elite archery athletes were selected that met the criteria for national champion status was based upon previous experiences of competing in the international games. The use of semi-structure interview technique was implemented to be the main method of gathering research data. The study identified several language barriers to communication difficulties. The findings indicated language barriers become issues and had debilitating effect in communication through English language.

Purpose: In everyday life, humans when interacting with others often misunderstands and make apologies. Apologies in Japanese and English have different ways of delivering. Like the expression of apology "sumimasen" in Japanese and "Sorry" in English. This study uses a corpus-based approach to check the variation of apology strategies used in Japanese and English and then analyzed. This study aims to analyze and compare apologies in Japanese and English also study their contextual use.     Methodology: The method used in this study is a qualitative method with content analysis techniques consisting of the form of Japanese and English language apologies. Sources of research data are qualitative data sources from examples of Japanese and Bahasa sentences. Main Findings: it can be concluded that the expression of apology in Japanese and English is very diverse. Judging from the origin he said some phrases of apology in Japanese are more likely to be a misconception or misconduct (sumimasen, gomennasai, shitsureishimashita, mooshiwakearimasen, warui). Apologies in Japanese may vary depending on how severe the mistakes have been made and how well a person relates to the person who is the object of the error. Implications/Applications: The findings of this research can help individuals in communication and social interactions. Also, it provides an overview of apology in different settings and social situations.

International students at higher education in Indonesia encounter an extent of situations amid their adaptations in academic life. These experiences contribute to their satisfaction. As handful of studies within Indonesian context were conducted to identify the international students’ difficulties in adapting to academic life, teacher’s point of view toward the issue is barely available. This study centers at a teacher’s experience in dealing with the international students. Highlight is given to language barrier, not only encountered by the international students but also the teacher. A narrative inquiry was employed involving an academic leader who is also a teacher knowledgeable in internationalization agenda in higher education in Indonesia. Results of the study reveals that the academic adaptation of international students, with the focus of language barrier, was compounded by the absence of roadmap of internationalization policy in national and organizational levels, less-ideal classroom setting, and not effective interaction within classroom with the diversity of people involved. It is suggested that the policy on the proficiency of English language should be regulated to be mastered by students and teachers in international program.  HIGHLIGHTS: The lack of policy regulating standard of English proficiency level as entry requirement for international students becomes one of the causes of the language barrier problem that might hurdle the academic adaptation of international students. The composition of domestic and international students in a class as well as the lack of English proficiency of both the teacher and the students has contributed to the difficulties in academic adjustment.

The article deals with metaphors of betrayal in English. The concept of betrayal studied concerning the peculiarities of its national and cultural actualization. The main issue of the work is to identify the principles of knowledge and ideas about the extra lingual reality presentation in English language consciousness. The significance of the study lies in identifying the axiological dominants of the researched concept cognitive structure, its ethnocultural specificity. The research data includes 543 examples naming betrayal inventoried through the complete selection from dictionaries, the thesaurus of English metaphors, fiction texts, etc. The method applied in this research corresponds to the objectives and data. The semantic and contextual analysis provided in lexicographical sources and fiction texts helps sort out the data collected. All examples divided into blocks: to betray- to scam, to deceive, to betray – to reveal the secret, to betray relations, to betray yourself. The analysis showed that betrayal actualized with the verbs, which contain semes to send a beep, to move in space, to remove, to leave, to put something over something, to leave; nouns – somatics; fauna; geographical objects; artifacts; adjectives with the semantic imperfect; adverbs – out, away. The result of the study shows that to respect confidentiality, personal life, ability to keep the secrets, to be honest, decent, to respect private interests are of primary importance for the English. They mostly appreciate loyalty, devotion, reliability, respect, tolerance in human relationships.

AbstractAstronomers from non-English-speaking countries, who form a sizeable proportion of the astronomical research community, are obliged to communicate the results of their investigations in a language that is not their own. Consequently, good science is frequently masked by poor command of English, which can create an unnecessary barrier to the communication of scientific results. A suggested method of surmounting the language barrier is the setting up of scientific editorial services in at least the major astronomical centres. It is further argued that journal editors, rather than scientific referees, should be responsible for judging the linguistic and stylistic quality of articles presented for publication. The peer-review system would then be restricted exclusively to the scientific rather than linguistic content of papers presented.The scientific Editorial Service of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, in operation since 1996, is briefly described in this context.

This research is about the implementation of action song in improving mentally retarded students’ (type C1) vocabulary attainment. This research is aimed to understand the implementation of action song improves students’ vocabulary attainment and to find out the difficulties in implementing process. The research design used was an exploratory design. In doing this research, I collected research data by applying observation checklists, video recording, and interviews as research instrument. In the implementation I found difficulties: most of students were shy, they did not want to do action song in front of the class; made all students to sing aloud the song while doing action song was difficult, there were only some students could do it better than before; they liked to follow the move of the action song, but they could not mention the name of part of the body they were touching. From the interview I found that, 68% participants believed English language learning is needed for mentally retarded students, 74% participants believed action song helps mentally retarded students attaining English vocabulary, 90% participants believed action song helps mentally retarded students more active in learning activity, 96% participants believed action song is appropriate to be applied in English learning for mentally retarded students, 66% participants argued that mentally retarded students enthused studying English at school or home, and 68% participants argued that mentally retarded students had interest about something related to English.

This research paper explores aspects of informality in the English language, the target hearers referred to by the aspects, and the functions the aspects convey in verbal interactions or communication, and its contribution to English Language Teaching (ELT) in the world. The research data are retrieved, obtained, and verified from informal-English-affiliated URLs or Websites, i.e. Web-Data as sources of informal English. As the findings, informal English involves the notorious, casual, heteregeneous, inconsistent, irregular, unorganized, incomplete, shorter, cut-down, reversed-up, and speaker-dependent aspects, and has the direct and literal nature. Informal English with its relatively any topics, personal and private, is used for close people to confirm their in-group solidarity or membership of a social group within relaxed situations and unofficial contexts. Knowledge and practices of informal English are necessary for teachers as well as learners. ELT teachers should include informal English in their teaching-syllabus material with particularly-set circumstances. Learning the knowledge and practices of informal English through ELT classrooms should prevent English learners from uncontrolled learning exposures to various informal morally-dangerous settings. This way will expectedly encourage English learners to be alert and careful in using informal English, hence encouraging them to maintain interpersonal and social harmony to some broader extent.

The present research relates English language teaching (ELT) effects on learning contents at the BS level in our province. It shows that the contents in syllabus teaching affect communicative ability of the students. It also explains the teachers’ effective delivery of the required knowledge to the learners. The survey method was adopted for this study. Agriculture University Peshawar, students were the population of the research. Data is collected through questionnaire.

The world that we live in today has so many languages that we speak throughout. Out of more than the six thousand languages that are spoken around the world, the most common is the English language. But there are people who do not understand it. When we speak of medications, the language barrier becomes riskier. If consumers are not able to understand the warning labels on the medicines, it might prove fatal to life. So it seems important that there be a tool or an application that would help them recognize and decode the warnings and/ or the instructions that are printed the medication pill containers. This tool will prove very useful for patients across the world and also people who consume any kind of medication without understanding the procedures/ risks that are specific to those medications.

The aim of the study was to summarize research data on depressive disorders in dementia and to clarify the presence of their impact on mortality rates in dementia. Materials and methods: To compile a literature review on the keywords “dementia”, “mortality” and “depression”, papers were selected and analyzed in the MEDLINE/PubMed and eLibrary databases from 2000 to 2020, as well as relevant references of the analyzed papers. Of the 245 Russian-language and 142 English-language papers, 64 publications were selected for further analysis. Results: the relationship between depression and dementia in late life is complex and is still under debate. Depression can be both a risk factor for the development of dementia and prodromal syndrome, or accompany the development of dementia. Depression is common in all types of dementia and in all stages of the disease, including mild cognitive impairment. Depression and vascular dementia may have a synergistic effect on mortality. Conclusion: the results obtained in the course of the study are important for integral understanding of the peculiarities of managing patients with various types of dementia.
