Cancer, an uncontrollable growth of cells, is among the leading causes of mortality and morbidity throughout the world. Malignant neoplasms are difficult to treat diseases because of their single in kind characteristics such as tissue invasion, metastasis, evading reticuloendothelial system (RES) and so forth. In recent decade polymeric nanoparticulate systems has gained special attention in drug delivery and targeting among all biocompatible nanoforms. Among these systems, chitosan-based hydrogel nanoparticles have been wildly utilized for drug delivery purposes. The usage of chitosan nanogels in cancer therapy significantly improved in recent years. The various cancers were the target of chitosan nanogels. Also, modification of other delivery systems with chitosan were much reported. The aim of this study is the review and update of the recent studies on chitosan nanogels applications in cancer therapy by focus on cancer based classification.

The disadvantages that come with traditional cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, generated a research shift toward nanotechnology. However, even with the important advancements regarding cancer therapy, there are still serious stepping stones that need to be addressed. The use of both nanotechnology and nanomedicine has generated significant improvements in nano-sized materials development and their use as therapeutic, diagnosis, and imaging agents. The biological barriers that come from the healthy body, as well from the tumorous sites, are important parameters that need to be taken into consideration when designing drug delivery systems. There are several aspects of extreme importance such as the tumor microenvironment and vasculature, the reticuloendothelial system, the blood–brain barrier, the blood–tumor barrier, and the renal system. In order to achieve an effective system for cancer therapy, several characteristics of the nanoparticles have been outlined. Moreover, this review has also focused on the different types of nanoparticles that have been studied over the years as potential candidates for cancer therapy.

Ovarian cancer is one of the most common causes of mortality throughout the world. Unfortunately, chemotherapy has failed to cure advanced cancers developing multidrug resistance (MDR). Moreover, it has critical side effects because of nonspecific toxicity. Thanks to specific silencing of oncogenes and MDR-associated genes, nano-siRNA drugs can be a great help address the limitations of chemotherapy. Here, we review the current advances in nanoparticle-mediated siRNA delivery strategies such as polymeric- and lipid-based systems, rigid nanoparticles and nanoparticles coupled to specific ligand systems. Nanoparticle-based codelivery of anticancer drugs and siRNA targeting various mechanisms of MDR is a cutting-edge strategy for ovarian cancer therapy, which is completely discussed in this review.

The spontaneous remission rate for untreated HBV infection is approximately 80%, but the likelihood of chronic hepatitis approaches 90% if patients are infected early in life.

However, in terms of terms, anatomical names of coronary arteries differ clinically. In this article, anatomical structures on coronary angiography are presented with combining clinical terms.

Hypertension (HTN) is most likely a common disease in the world. In every 3 adult ages over 20 years have this disease. As a consequence, Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases are becoming increasingly important as causes of mortality and morbidity in all developing countries. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of pre-hypertension and hypertension among the Army personnel in Nepal. This was a cross-sectional descriptive study of 315 respondents, who met eligible criteria. All respondents were enumerated by census method using self-interviewing questionnaire focusing measurement of the blood pressure, weight and height along with the demographic and other socio-economic as well as cultural characteristics. The study shows that overwhelming respondents (77.5%) are normal. And about 13 percent respondents are seemed to be in the pre-hypertension, followed by stage I HTN (6%) and stage II HTN (3.5%). It also shows that there is a significant association between prevalence of hypertension and body mass index of the respondents.

Background: Malignant tumors are important causes of mortality and morbidity in the world. It is known that the incidence of tumors- in which a large number of etiologic agents are identified and continued to be investigated- varies according to age, gender and geographical location. This study aimed to determine the prevalence and localization distributions of malignant tumors in Kars.Methods: The study included 17012 patients whose biopsy materials were evaluated in the Department of Pathology of Kafkas University Health Research and Practice Hospital between 2014-2017.Results: The mean age of all cancer cases was 63.3±14.8 and the median age was 63. The cancer frequency was detected 22.6% in 2014, 23.3% in 2015, 26.9% in 2016 and 27.2% in 2017 with general slight male dominance.Conclusions: The incidence of cancer in our country is found to be lower compared to the world data. It is necessary to examine and take into account the regional and city-based cancer statistics that serve as an important key stone in the planning of health policies and health investments in our country. Regional data is not only important for treatment services, but also for preventive health services and early diagnosis.

Retinoblastoma is one of highly curable diseases; today the total 5-year survival rate in patients with retinoblastoma exceeds 95%. The article summarizes the current world experience on treatment of patients with intraocular retinoblastoma. The treating skills of intraocular malignant tumor in children are a balance between the patient’s life and the preservation of an eye and its visual functions. The complex and challenging task is the treatment of common intraocular retinoblastoma groups «C», «D», «E» when the large size or localization of the tumor does not allow performing the local (focal) destruction of the tumor. As a rule, in such cases neoadjuvant chemotherapy (CT) is performed at the first stage in order to reduce the size of the tumor for further focal therapy. However, the analysed data on the effectiveness of neoadjuvant CT in combination with focal or radiotherapy demonstrated the limited possibilities of the proposed therapy. Local drug delivery in cancer therapy became a real breakthrough in the organ-preserving treatment of children with large intraocular retinoblastoma. The most widely used current methods of local drug delivery are intravitreal (IVitC) and selective intra-arterial chemotherapy (SIAC) as monotherapy or in combination with neoadjuvant CT and focal therapy which significantly increased the percentage of preserved eyes without radiotherapy administration or damage to the patient survival. The review discusses the different IVitC and SIAC techniques, chemotherapy schemes, dosages of chemotherapy, immediate and long-term complications of treatment.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity of toxic origin in the world. Its insidious and polymorphic symptomatology makes it difficult to diagnose. It occurs accidentally, because of non-supervised domestic fires, or in fire victims. In fire victims, in particular, the differential diagnosis between carbon monoxide gas poisoning, inhalation of other toxic products of combustion like cyanide, oxygen deprivation, thermal burns and shock due to burns as a cause of death is not an easy task. The authors examined 107 fire victims that were autopsied at the Forensic Medicine from Iasi, Romania, in the last 10 years (2007-2016). Most cases were males (69.16%), young (0-9 years) or older than 60 with a burned surface of 91-100% in 68.22% of cases. Blood samples from the cadavers were collected in all cases in order to analyse carboxyhaemoglobin concentration and haemolysis. Toxicological analysis revealed a carboxyhaemoglobin level of maximum 95% but the majority of cases (70.72%) had a concentration inferior to 50%. An inverse correlation was identified between carboxyhaemoglobin concentration and haemolysis, an indicator of heat dissociation. Our study proves that many fire victims may die because of carbon monoxide intoxication prior to the extent of burns at a lethal potential.
