BACKGROUND Critical thinking is an essential set of skills in nursing education, and nursing education needs a sharper focus on effective ways to support the development of these skills, especially through the implementation of technological tools in nursing education. OBJECTIVE To assess the feasibility for nursing students in clinical practice of a technology–supported guidance model grounded in metacognition theory. METHODS Both quantitative (research questionnaires) and qualitative (focus group interviews) approaches will be used to collect data for a feasibility study with a flexible, exploratory, mixed methods design to test a newly developed intervention in clinical practice. RESULTS The intervention development was completed in December 2020. The intervention will be tested at three independent nursing homes in Norway. CONCLUSIONS By determining the feasibility of a technology–supported guidance model for nursing students in clinical practice, the results will provide information on the acceptability of the intervention and the suitability of the outcome measures and data collection strategy. They will also identify the causes of drop–out and the obstacles to retention and adherence.

BACKGROUND Critical thinking is an essential skill that nursing students need to develop. Critical thinking is developed through guidance in clinical practice. Technological tools have opened new avenues for technology–supported guidance that stimulates the development of nursing students` critical thinking, but it is unclear which technology–supported guidance models are being used to stimulate the development of critical thinking and what are the challenges and facilitators of such guidance models. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is synthesize the available knowledge on the use of technology–supported guidance models in nursing clinical practice that stimulates the development of critical thinking. METHODS Mixed methods systematic review by using a convergent integrated design following the Joanna Briggs Institute Manual for Evidence Synthesis. Articles will be selected by screening the titles and abstracts by a pair of authors. The methodological quality of articles will be assessed by a pair of authors, according to checklists for specific study designs. Data then will be extracted through a standardised Joanna Briggs Institute Mixed Methods Data Extraction Form Following a Convergent Integrated Approach. The thematic synthesis for data transformation and synthesis will be used. RESULTS Results of this review are expected in January 2021. CONCLUSIONS By combining evidence from studies with varied methodological approaches, it is expected that there will be a broader insight into the use of technology–supported guidance models in clinical practice, in nursing education, with focus on the development of nursing students` critical thinking. Background: Critical thinking concept is the important element in order delivery a quality nursing care.� Learning process is designed using effective learning method to support critical thinking for students in the clinical practice environment. Concept mapping is a tool to enhance critical thinking for students by making connection between prior knowledge� with new information in order to solve nursing problems. Objective: to know the effect concept mapping application in clinical learning towards quality of nursing documentation by nursing students in Profesi Ners level Karya Husada Semarang Health Science College who have clinical practice in maternity. Methode: Using quantitative research with only posttest design, with sampel were 30 nursing students in Profesi Ners level using total sampling. Data Analysis used Mann-whitney. Result: Intervention group had average grade higher was 22,90 than control grou was 8,10. Conclusion: There was effect of concept mapping in order delivery maternity nursing care for nursing students in Profesi� Ners level.�Key words: Concept mapping, Maternity nursing care

Virtual patients are used as training method to gain professional competencies in nursing education. Virtual patients are real-life interactive computer-based clinical scenarios where students can learn appropriate information and practices to plan and manage patient care, and can be used for health care, training, or evaluation. Virtual patient technology that provides skill in a risk-free environment provides real-time feedback on student activity that can affect decision-making when they contact with the patient. If included in the curriculum appropriately; virtual patient technology can help the student develop numerous skills such as clinical assessment, patient interaction, critical thinking, therapeutic approach and adaptation to a changing environment. Risksiz bir ortamda beceri kazandıran sanal hasta teknolojisi, hasta ile temasa geçtiğinde karar vermeyi etkileyebilecek öğrenci etkinliği hakkında gerçek zamanlı geribildirim sağlar. Müfredata uygun bir şekilde dahil edilirse; sanal hasta teknolojisi öğrenciye klinik değerlendirme, hasta etkileşimi, eleştirel düşünme, terapötik yaklaşım ve değişen bir ortama uyum sağlama gibi çok sayıda becerinin geliştirilmesine yardımcı olabilir. Professional nurses could be prepared through professional nursing programs. Professional nursing program is part of the nursing education program. One of the competencies required to be professional nurses is implementing evidence-based practice (EBP) to explore the best nursing interventions for patients to get optimal outcome. Nursing students have learned EBP during bachelor degree by analysis case using the EBP method. However, evaluation related  students' understanding of the method and its application of EBP to the clinical practice was none. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of knowledge with student competency in the implementation of evidence based practice (EBP) to managed patients in the medical surgical nursing stage. This research is quantitative research. The sample in this study was 120 nursing students who were at professional nursing program that were recruited using total sampling technique. The instrument used is the Evidence Based Practice Questionnaire (EBPQ) questionnaire. The results showed that more than half of the respondents had high knowledge (68%), and high competence (49%). This study shows a meaningful relationship between knowledge of student competence in applying EBP (r = .6070, p <0.01). The findings of this study are important for recommendations related to developing teaching materials in nursing education related to for providing the best service for patients.

Abstract Background Despite the advantages of using active learning strategies in nursing education, researchers have rarely investigated how such pedagogic approaches can be used to assess students or how interactive examinations can be modified depending on circumstances of practice (e.g., in online education). Aims The aim was to compare three interactive examination designs, all based on active learning pedagogy, in terms of nursing students’ engagement and preparedness, their learning achievement, and instructional aspects. Methods A comparative research design was used including final-year undergraduate nursing students. All students were enrolled in a quality improvement course at a metropolitan university in Sweden. In this comparative study to evaluate three course layouts, participants (Cohort 1, n = 89; Cohort 2, n = 97; Cohort 3, n = 60) completed different examinations assessing the same course content and learning objectives, after which they evaluated the examinations on a questionnaire in numerical and free-text responses. Chi-squared tests were conducted to compare background variables between the cohorts and Kruskal–Wallis H tests to assess numerical differences in experiences between cohorts. Following the guidelines of the Good Reporting of a Mixed Methods Study (GRAMMS), a sequential mixed-methods analysis was performed on the quantitative findings, and the qualitative findings were used complementary to support the interpretation of the quantitative results. Results The 246 students who completed the questionnaire generally appreciated the interactive examination in active learning classrooms. Among significant differences in the results, Cohort 2 (e.g., conducted the examination on campus) scored highest for overall positive experience and engagement, whereas Cohort 3 (e.g., conducted the examination online) scored the lowest. Students in Cohort 3 generally commended the online examination’s chat function available for use during the examination. Conclusions Interactive examinations for nursing students succeed when they are campus-based, focus on student preparation, and provide the necessary time to be completed.

Mixed methods reviews offer an excellent approach to synthesizing qualitative and quantitative evidence to generate more robust implications for practice, research, and policymaking. There are limited guidance and practical examples concerning the methods for adequately synthesizing qualitative and quantitative research findings in mixed reviews. This paper aims to illustrate the application and use of joint displays for qualitative and quantitative synthesis in mixed methods reviews. We used joint displays to synthesize and integrate qualitative and quantitative research findings in a segregated mixed methods review about male nursing students' challenges and experiences. In total, 36 qualitative, six quantitative, and one mixed-methods study was appraised and synthesized in the review. First, the qualitative and quantitative findings were analyzed and synthesized separately. The synthesized findings were integrated through tabular and visual joint displays at two levels of integration. At the first level, a statistics theme display was developed to compare the synthesized qualitative and quantitative findings and the number of studies from which the findings were generated. At the second level, the synthesized qualitative and quantitative findings supported by each other were integrated to identify confirmed, discordant, and expanded inferences using generalizing theme display. The use of two displays allowed in a robust and comprehensive synthesis of studies. Joint displays could serve as an excellent method for rigorous and transparent synthesis of qualitative and quantitative findings and the generation of adequate and relevant inferences in mixed methods reviews.

Background: Professional Behavior is a reflection of the professionalism, which includes academic integrity. Some of student’s behavioral violations related to academic integrity are influenced by perception. However, students and lecturers tend to interpret these violations differently associated with severity of academic integrity, for example, the sanction against violations of academic integrity. Thus, these differences may contribute to the number of occurrences of academic integrity violations. This study aims to identify the perception of nursing students and lecturers about the level of sanctions for violations of academic integrity.Method: This study used a mixed method using a sequential explanatory design. This was also a quantitative research survey using a questioner to 101 nursing students, followed by focus group discussion done by the students and in-depth interviews to four lecturers.Results: The behavior deemed not to be in violation was 1% -5.9%. Most students chose sanction level 2 (21.8% - 66.35%), sanction level 3 (23.8% - 28.7%) and the highest sanction level or level 10 (19.8%)Conclusion: The perception of students to the sanction level out of 22 items, 15 items nursing students chose sanction level 2 “verbal warning” (21.8% - 66.35%), 2 items students chose sanction level 3 “written warning” (23.8% -28.7%). The highest sanction level chosen was level 10 “reported to the professional regulatory body” (19.8%). The lecturers assumed that mild sanction first given was in the form of verbal warning and the toughest was being suspended.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between nursing students’ critical thinking disposition and autonomy levels. METHODS: The descriptive-relationship seeking study was conducted with 288 nursing students in the nursing department of a state university. Data were collected by using the Descriptive Characteristics Information Form, which included socio-demographic characteristics, California Critical Thinking Disposition Scale and Sociotropy-Autonomy Scale. Data were analyzed by number, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Pearson correlation tests. RESULTS: It was found that the students’ mean autonomy subscale of Sociotropy-Autonomy Scale score was 87.43±11.27 and the overall mean score of critical thinking disposition was 232.52±23.30. There was a statistically significant positive correlation between the students› overall mean scores of California Critical Thinking Disposition Scale and autonomy subscale scores of Sociotropy-Autonomy Scale (r = 0.526, p <0.010). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: In the study, the autonomy levels of the students were above the middle level; critical thinking disposition levels were low; There was a positive relationship between critical thinking disposition and autonomy levels. The results of the study suggest that nursing education curricula should be revised and restructured in order to raise students’ critical thinking and autonomy levels in nursing education.

Nursing higher education will challenge the dynamics of the work environment in the Industrial Revolution Era 4.0 and they will compete with digital technology. Critical thinking skills as one of the basic competencies must support higher education in preparation for the industrial revolution 4.0. Exploring thinking skills makes nursing students will be trained in their punishment and analysis skills according to their knowledge. Critical thinking skills not only guide students to develop continuing skills, but also help nursing students to be motivated to create innovation in college. The aims of this review is to learn the critical skills needed in higher education to prepare for the industrial revolution 4.0 based on literature understanding. There are 6 (six) important things about Critical Thinking in nursing education in the Industrial Revolution Era 4.0, namely Definition of Critical Thinking, Why do we need to focus on critical thinking in higher education, Why is critical thinking needed in industry 4.0 preparation, Industry Innovation 4.0 and human potential to overcome environmental problems, Critical Thinking in Nursing Education, and Educational Strategies for Developing Critical Thinking in Nursing. These critical thinking skills are suitable for equipping students in higher education before they enter different workplaces. Educational strategies in developing critical thinking skills by supporting the use of questions, small group activities, role plays, debates, use of case studies, journals, simulations, puzzles, problem solving and writing assignments. Nursing students who think critically in line with creative thinking and innovation will be useful to survive in the dynamics of the industrial revolution 4.0 and beyond in the world of the future.     Keywords: Critical Thinking, Nursing Higher Education, Industrial Revolution 4.0
