AbstractA growing body of research suggests that the functionality of coping strategies may in part depend on the context in which they are executed. Thus far, functionality has mostly been defined through the associations of coping strategies with psychopathology, particularly depression. Whether associations of coping strategies with proxies for happiness such as subjective well-being (SWB) are simply inverse remains to be shown. A total of n = 836 individuals from the U. S. general population participated in an online survey that included a revised version of the Maladaptive and Adaptive Coping Styles Questionnaire (MAX-R) that incorporates context-specific items, the Scale of Positive and Negative Affect (SPANE), the Temporal Satisfaction with Life Scale (TSWLS), the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), and the Web Screening Questionnaire (WSQ). The MAX-R was submitted to an exploratory factor analysis. The factor analysis of the MAX-R yielded four subscales: adaptive, maladaptive, avoidance, and expressive suppression coping. Similar strategies in different contexts at times loaded on the same (e.g., maladaptive) or different (e.g., adaptive and avoidance) dimensions. Hierarchical multiple linear regression revealed significant associations of adaptive coping with SPANE (ß = 0.21), TSWLS (ß = 0.03), and PHQ-9 (ß = 0.07), all ps < .001, of maladaptive coping with SPANE (ß =  − 0.19), TSWLS (ß =  − 0.10), and PHQ-9 (ß = 0.02), all ps < .01, of avoidance with PHQ-9 (ß =  0.01, p < .001), and of expressive suppression with SPANE (ß =  − 0.06) and TSWLS (ß =  − 0.16), ps < .005. Final models explained 64.6% of variance in SPANE, 41.8% of variance in TSWLS, and 55% of variance in PHQ-9 score. In some instances, the functionality of coping strategies appears to be impacted by contextual factors. When investigating the overall benefit of use versus nonuse of coping strategies, their association with psychopathology measures and with subjective well-being should both be considered.

COVID-19 has had a significant impact on human life, yet very limited studies have investigated the quality of life (QoL) of children and adolescents during the pandemic. This paper aims to present the reports of children and adolescents (N = 1,474; 10–18 years old) on their QoL during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Data were collected using Google Forms and convenience sampling. The instruments measured the five domains of QoL: material, physical, social, emotional, and productive well-being. The data were analyzed descriptively using mean scores, crosstab, frequency, and ANOVA. The results show that the children and adolescents maintained their level of subjective well-being (SWB) and adapted to adverse situations during the lockdown. Boys and younger children displayed significantly higher mean scores than girls and older children. Children and adolescents reported boredom due to a lack of various physical activities, dissatisfaction with school closures, the things they learned at home, and their contact with friends. This study has implications in terms of providing advice to parents, teachers, children, and adolescents for promoting the QoL of children and adolescents during the pandemic.

The pandemic forces students to change their learning process from face to face into online learning. Not all students demonstrate readiness to overcome this pandemic and some of them experience academic pressure. This study aims to investigate whether stress caused by online learning is a moderator of the relationship between online learning readiness and college students’ well-being amid COVID-19 pandemic. Participants of this study were 293 undergraduate students (Mage = 20.42, SD = 1.87) hired using accidental sampling methods. The variables were measured through College Student Subjective Well-Being Questionnaire, Online Learning Readiness Scale, Stressor Scale for College Student (Study-Related Stressor subscale). Results showed that academic stress reduces the positive effect of online learning readiness toward college students’ well-being. The theoretical and practical implications are further discussed.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) that is currently spreading in Indonesia has prompted the government to implement various prevention efforts to limit its spread. One of the sectors affected by this pandemic is the education sector, owing to the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kementrian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan) of the Republic of Indonesia instruction to higher education institutions to implement the Study from Home (SFH) policy. This causes abrupt changes and considerable pressures on college students both internally and externally, which might trigger negative emotions, including stress in undergoing Study from Home (SFH). This study aims to explore the correlation between academic resilience and the subjective well-being of college students experiencing online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study uses a literature review to collect data, focusing on theoretical studies, and the references used are inseparable from scientific literature. The results show that resilience is crucial in online learning to maintain and improve the students’ subjective well-being. Students with a high level of resilience tend to have a high level of subjective well-being as well, meaning that they are able to regulate their emotions better in addition to controlling internal pressures caused by online learning. Keywords: Academic resilience, subjective well-being, online learning, COVID-19

We examined the relationship between family leisure and subjective well-being by exploring the type and timing of family leisure activities. We used convenience sampling to recruit 711 adolescents, and conducted a hierarchical linear regression and one-way analysis of variance for data analysis. Results showed that participants who were more involved in a high number of either core or balance family leisure activities had higher subjective well-being. In addition, participants (vs. their counterparts involved in few core or balance family leisure activities) highly involved in both core and balance family leisure activities had higher subjective well-being. Further, participants (vs. all their counterparts) involved in the fewest family leisure activities all year round had lower subjective well-being. These results implied that participants' subjective well-being was correlated with patterns and timing of family leisure. Education practitioners and parents should be aware that subjective well-being can be improved by appropriate allocation of time spent on different types of family leisure activities.

Subjective well-being is a comprehensive psychological indicator for measuring quality of life. Studies have found that emotional measurement methods and measurement accuracy are important for well-being-related research. Academic emotion is an emotion description in the field of education. The subjective well-being of learners in an online learning environment can be studied by analyzing academic emotions. However, in a large-scale online learning environment, it is extremely challenging to classify learners’ academic emotions quickly and accurately for specific comment aspects. This study used literature analysis and data pre-analysis to build a dimensional classification system of academic emotion aspects for students’ comments in an online learning environment, as well as to develop an aspect-oriented academic emotion automatic recognition method, including an aspect-oriented convolutional neural network (A-CNN) and an academic emotion classification algorithm based on the long short-term memory with attention mechanism (LSTM-ATT) and the attention mechanism. The experiments showed that this model can provide quick and effective identification. The A-CNN model accuracy on the test set was 89%, and the LSTM-ATT model accuracy on the test set was 71%. This research provides a new method for the measurement of large-scale online academic emotions, as well as support for research related to students’ well-being in online learning environments.

Abstract: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between perception of school climate and student’s subjective well-being at school. Two instruments were used to collect data, namely (1) Scale of Subjective Well-Being at School, which was developed based on Osgood’s semantic differential mode; and (2) Scale of Perception of School Climate which was constructed based on Likert’s summated rating model. Ninety senior high school students participated in this study. They were selected by means of convenience sampling method. Multivariate correlation technique (MANOVA) was then applied to examine the correlation between the two constructs. The result revealed that there is a significant positive correlation between perception of school climate and student’s subjective well-being at school (F = 11.561, Partial Eta Square = 0.210, and p = 0.00 (p < 0.01)). Meanwhile, perception of school climate has significant positive correlation with both cognitive and affective aspects of subjective well-being, with the value of correlation coefficient tends to be higher with cognitive aspect than with affective aspect. Keywords: School climate, subjective well-being, school, studentAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan antara persepsi terhadap iklim sekolah dengan kesejahteraan subjektif siswa di sekolah.
