This article aims to describe and explain how the philosophy of fi ra wali (in English: my sago my life) shapes the identity of Sentani people. The objective is to explain this notion (fi ra wali) features as the cultural identity of the Sentani people whichconstructed in everyday engagement (daily interactions) of the Sentani communities. Data for the study was obtained through  ethnographic research and phenomenology techniques including participant observation, interviews and literature study. Identity is usually constructed institutionally based on juridical and normative agreements collectively. This article reveals that identity can be constructed narratively, in daily interactions in society. Everyday angagement (daily life) gives birth to authentic experiences that are sacred in social relations, both in physical space and spiritual space of the Sentani people. Identity shapedfrom cosmic-cultural reality that exists in cosmology, is able to integrate society in sui generis (clans), in order to face modernization, which has caused social changes in Sentani society. This article concludes that the fi ra wali as a cultural identity has important contribution to deal with multicultural contexts.

Abstract Consumer drones are entering everyday spaces with increasing frequency and impact as more and more hobbyists use the aerial tool for recreational photography and videography. In this article, I seek to expand the common reference to drones as “unmanned aircraft systems” by conceptualising the hobby drone practice more broadly as a heterogeneous, mobile assemblage of virtual and physical practices and human and non-human actors. Drawing on initial ethnographic fieldwork and interviews with drone hobbyists as well as ongoing cyber-ethnographic research on social networking sites, this article gives an overview of how the mobile drone practice needs to be situated alongside people, things, and data in physical and virtual spheres. As drone hobbyists set out to fly their devices at a given time and place, a number of relations reaching across atmospheric (e. g. weather conditions, daylight hours, GPS availability), geographic (e. g. volumetric obstacles), mobile (e. g. flight restrictions, ground traffic), and social (e. g. bystanders) dimensions demand attention. Furthermore, when drone operators share their aerial images online, visual (e. g. live stream) and cyber-social relations (e. g. comments, scrutiny) come into play, which may similarly impact the drone practice in terms of the pilot’s performance. While drone hobbysists appear to be interested in keeping a “low profile” in the physical space, many pilots manage a comparatively “high profile” in the virtual sphere with respect to the sharing of their images. Since the recreational trend brings together elements of convergence, location-awareness, and real-time feedback, I suggest approaching consumer drones as, what Scott McQuire (2016) terms, “geomedia.” Moreover, consumer drones open up different “cybermobilities” (Adey/Bevan 2006) understood as connected movement that flows through and shapes both physical and virtual spaces simultaneously. The way that many drone hobbyists appear to navigate these different environments, sometimes at the same time, has methodological implications for ethnographic research on consumer drones. Ultimately, the assemblage-perspective brings together aviation-related and socio-cultural concerns relevant in the context of consumer drones as digital communication technology and visual production tool.

Given the precarity and mobility of neoliberalism, there has been increasing interest into constructs of ‘home’. In this article, the author defines ‘home’ as an active and relational process encompassing interactions between materiality and immateriality. Participant observation research conducted amongst shelter families in Toronto, Canada, living in motels can shed light on some of these larger global conversations about what ‘home’ is, and particularly, what it is not. These motels are utilized as part of the City of Toronto Shelter, Support and Housing Administration providing free shelter to impoverished families in need. Social workers, shelter managers and local faith group volunteers assert that the motels should be considered ‘home’ and the problem is that the women living in the motels with their children treat the physical space as transitory. In contrast, the women assert that the motel space is not a home and can never be made into one. The author argues that for these women, there are three critical elements missing in the motel: control over space, safety/security and privacy. The assertion that the motel space is not a home is a significant form of resistance to the regulatory bureaucratic structuring of daily life. However, despite this absence of home, the women feel strong identification as mothers and have formed systems of informal shared networks. This research helps to further illuminate not only our understandings of ‘home’, but also deepen and complicate normative associations equating ‘home’ with physical structure, domesticity and family.

Abstract Physical space has become intertwined with digital information with the escalatory development of information and communication technologies such as ubiquitous computing, mobile and wearable devices, GPS technology, wireless networks, smart city applications and augmented reality. The relationship between urban space and location-based technology has transformed everyday life practices; and one of these life practices is playing game. Location based mobile games (LBMGs) are being played on streets and provide interaction with urban environments. Mobile devices become the interface between the player and urban space, and players experience the urban through the game narrative. Nowadays, the most popular LBMGs are Ingress and Pokémon Go. Although the both games were created by the same company and configured on the same map, they arouse different effects. LBMGs have a great potential to shape gaming experiences thus researching different effects of Ingress and Pokémon Go hold an academic importance. The difference between these two games can only be revealed by participating in game communities and conducting a qualitative research. Because of that, this study is built on an ethnographic research about Ingress and Pokémon Go; and the results of the research revealed the importance of sociability. In this study, firstly, LBMGs are defined and the influences of these games on everyday life are discussed. Secondly, the differences and similarities are examined between Ingress and Pokémon Go according to the analysis obtained from participant observation and in-depth interviews. Finally, the importance of sociability is emphasized and foresights are provided in the light of research results to contribute to the game studies.

This article aims to examine the behavior of interpersonal interactions before and after digital media. The method of scientific articles uses descriptive qualitative methods through literature study, namely research based on literature studies and analysis of the development of problems in society. This study concludes that with interpersonal communication a person is more interested, so that creative ideas will grow for self-development. The presence of social media not only has an impact on interpersonal communication but also has an impact on interpersonal relationships. Social media has changed the attitude and style of a person, people who are initially friendly will experience changes to be ignorant of their surroundings because their attention has been diverted to social media. Changes in social relationships or changes as a balance (equilibrium) of social relations and all forms of changes in social institutions within a society, which affect the social system, including values, attitudes and behavior patterns among groups in society. Positive social changes such as obtaining information, obtaining social and economic benefits. Meanwhile, social changes that tend to be negative include social groups acting on behalf of religion, ethnicity and certain behavior patterns that sometimes deviate from existing norms.

O artigo traz a análise de uma cena do cotidiano de uma escola pública, onde a partir das contribuições dos estudos de gênero, objetiva-se compreender como as crianças constroem suas representações acerca dos papéis de gênero nas relações com seus pares. A metodologia considera aspectos da pesquisa etnográfica e da análise de narrativas em uma perspectiva socioconstrucionista, possibilitando-nos a compreensão do processo de construção das identidades sociais dos sujeitos, onde as conclusões apontaram que, mesmo em um espaço normativo como a escola, a relutância irrompe e inscreve nos corpos, outras possibilidades de dizer e dar sentidos aos gêneros, às sexualidades e outros processos identitários que estão em  jogo/disputa nas relações sociais.The article presents the analysis of a scene from the daily life of a public school, where, based on the contributions of the gender studies, the objective is to understand how children construct their representations about gender roles in their relationships with their peers. The methodology considers aspects of ethnographic research and narrative analysis from a socioconstructionist perspective, allowing us to understand the process of construction of the social identities of the subjects, where the conclusions pointed out that, even in a normative space such as school, reluctance erupts and inscribes in the bodies, other possibilities of saying and giving directions to the genres, sexualities and other identity processes that are at stake / dispute in social relations.

The purpose of the article is to discuss and analyze the linguistic and cultural identity of Ticino and its inhabitants . The text presents the Swiss region and its language(s) from a historical and contemporary perspective, as well as two areas of language micro-policy: 1) implemented in the region by representatives of local elites/decision makers 2) present in the daily life of the inhabitants of Ticino: their decisions, views and attitudes towards languages . Discussion of these issues is based on the analysis of ethnographic research conducted in the region and existing documents and literature on the subject . I argue that although multilingualism is present in the region and in its inhabitants’ beliefs and everyday life practices, it does not contradict the fact that Italian is considered to be culturally the most important distinguishing feature of Ticino and the main language of the canton . I conclude that language policy implemented at the regional and local level in recent times has had little impact on the linguistic and cultural identity of the region and its inhabitants .

Tambakan people are able to maintain their ecological balance through local wisdom is reflected in the annual ritual behavior called Mungkah Wali. The purpose of this study is to know: (a) Why Tambakan people  perform a ritual called Mungkah Wali , (b) How is the Mungkah Wali ritual process implemented and (c) What is the meaning of Mungkah Wali ritual for Tambakan society? This research uses ethnographic research method which is included in qualitative research with data collection technique through participant observation, interview, and literature study. This research using Functional Structural theory in reviewing structure and function of Mungkah Wali ritual to understand and analyze the research data, and uses Semiologi theory to study the myth contained in the ritual. Based on the analysis, this study found three factors behind the implementation of Mungkah Wali ritual that are (a) as the worship of God; (b) carrying out mythical rituals; (c) relate to the history of the establishment of Tambak Village. The function of the  Mungkah Wali ritual  is for offering  to obtain the grace in the form of safety, welfare, and prosperity for Tambakan Village. The meaning of the Mungkah Wali ritual is: (a) having an unifying or solidarity function among the community; (b) having a preservation function for forest area in Tambakan Village; (c) has a function in maintaining water availability in Desa Tambakan; (d) has a function of preserving the cow population; (e) has an economic function for the community of Desa Tambakan

Purpose This paper aims to explore consumers’ experienced life and studies how practices interconnect and are organized on a daily basis. The objective is to contribute to a better understanding of how (or whether) it is possible to interfere with daily practices, as public policies pretend to do, to address several societal challenges (food waste, healthy eating, greenhouse gas reduction, social equity, etc.). Design/methodology/approach Using the concepts of routine, ritual and practice to understand the dynamics of daily life from a practice theories perspective, this study is based on a qualitative methodology combining a projective method of collage coupled with semi-structured interviews with 23 participants and, participant observation of shopping, cooking and mealtimes at home with 11 of the 23 participants. Findings Results show that the degree of systematization of practices defines different types of routine according to various systematization factors (time, commitment, social relations, material), suggesting a distinction between systematized, hybrid and partially systematized routines. Beyond the question of the degree of systematization of practices composing routines, results show that some practices are embedded in daily routines due to their ritualization. Research limitations/implications This work takes part of the debates on how to study households’ daily life, and challenges the understanding of daily life activity more globally than just by the prism of isolated actions. For that, this study uses the concepts of routines and rituals. They are relevant to describe and to capture the tangle of practices composing food activities. The study shows that the material dimensions, the pressure of time, the commitments and the social relations condition the global arrangement of the food practices in a variable way. Practical implications Such results offer new perspectives for intervening on households’ daily consumption by understanding the global dynamics of food routines. Originality/value This work contributes to a better understanding of consumers’ food practices and routines and to a practice-change perspective considering constrained and routinely constructed lives.

Summary The end of the 20th and the first decade of the 21st century are characterized by a technological development which could be described as having revolutionary speed. If we were to look back on the revolutionary events during the 17th and 18th century, in the domain of great scientific changes, changes in industry, agriculture, economy, the organization of social relations (democracy and socialism), we could say that we are witnesses to this sixth technological revolution. All these civilizational leaps forward have conditioned, quite expectedly, big changes in our profession. This has been reflected in the goals which have been imposed by social changes initiated by numerous revolutionary changes. Even though man and his need for physical exercise, as the nourishing food necessary for his being, have remained the same, the circumstances which have imposed different living conditions have required changes in our profession. Naturally, this was reflected in our science as well (which we refer to by different names today). The time we live in, caught up in this new sixth technological revolution, requires a different approach to man and his personality. Now, the question is not only how to “drag” him out of a sedentary culture, but also how to fight the increasingly present physical and intellectual inactivity. Through perfectly guided marketing activities which have been made possible by the implementation of new technological aids, man has been drawn into the hedonistic waters of his own inactivity. And unfortunately, he cannot free himself from this skillfully set trap. That is why physical culture and science must be included in finding a means of helping man find his way out of this hedonistic labyrinth and return to his roots.

ABSTRACT This paper reveals textual and contextual Randai, among other things, an analysis of Gerak Ga­ lombang Randai, an analysis of the character of Anak Randai, and at the end of the study series, to reveal the values contained in Randai as a cultural reality, which in principle is an inseparable part of the existence of Minangkabau community as the cultural support. The variety of motion used in Gerak Galombang Randai is not only a decoration of the motion beauty (tangible), but it also can be translated, as well as a symbol or emblem that has educational meanings (intangible), and can be an example of the daily life of the indigenous Minangkabau society. Keywords: Minang Dance aesthetic, Randai, textual­contextual analysis  ABSTRAK Tulisan ini mengungkap teksual dan kontekstual Randai, di antaranya, analisis terhadap gerak galombang Randai, analisis karakter tokoh anak Randai, dan sebagai akhir dari rang- kaian penelitian ini, mengungkapkan nilai-nilai yang terdapat pada Randai sebagai realitas budaya, yang pada prinsipnya merupakan bagian yang tak dapat dipisahkan dari eksistensi masyarakat Minangkabau sebagai penyangga kebudayaan.
