Engineering for the cement industry is part of the heavy industry. The cement industry is the main supplier of raw materials for the production of concrete and reinforced concrete. For grinding cement, two types of mills are used - ball and roller. Recent decades have proven the great effectiveness of a vertical roller mill for grinding raw materials. Its effectiveness, combined with the implementation of drying, grinding and separation in one unit, gives it an undeniable advantage over a ball mill. This explains the significant increase in the share of roller mills in the cement mill market. The grinding process in such mills occurs due to abrasion, respectively, in the process of work wear of the rubbing parts of the mill occurs. The work evaluated the performance of a mill with smooth disk rolls. During the study, the cause of the destruction of the sectors of the mill produced by FLSmidth, operating in the Russian Federation, was identified. The study revealed the causes of the destruction of the details of the roller mill: with the simultaneous impact of the workload and the displacement of the sectors resulting from intensive wear, the total equivalent stresses exceed the value of the endurance limit under cyclic loading. Therefore, the accumulation of fatigue damage to the material, the formation and growth of cracks, which adversely affects the performance of the mill. A number of measures have been proposed to increase the operability of mills of this design.

In cement industry, many grinding up systems are on operating now. The tradition process of tube mill grinding system is high energy consumption, so it’s low efficiency, especially in the final cement grinding process. The value and advantage of slag is recognized more and more, but it’s difficult to be grinded up. Furthermore, the disadvantage and shortages to grind up clinker compounded with slag to produce cement are obvious and adopted. The best process is to grind up slag, clinker separately. Then, these two kinds of powder are compounded by a mixer. Hereby, it introduces a design of the process to grind up clinker, slag by one roller mill.

In 2019, Cbb (previously known as Cementos Bío Bío) was one of the main companies dedicated to the production of cement, concrete and lime. It had the largest logistics coverage in Chile and the largest installed production capacity with 3.5 million tons of cement per year and a dispatch of 1.3 million tons. It employed more than 2,800 collaborators, of which 1,344 provided services as contractor companies. Its annual sales for 2019 had been 263,182 million pesos (MM $), which allowed it to generate a net operating result of MM $ 13,104 and an EBITDA of MM $ 36,321. Cbb had managed to position itself in the industry thanks to its long history in the market and its innovative vision in creating high quality products by reusing waste such as slag and ash. Until 2010, the cement industry in Chile had had three major participants: Melón S.A., Cemento Polpaico S.A. and Cbb. All three companies operated under a traditional business model that ranged from the extraction of raw materials in their own mines to their dispatch. In 2011, Chile no longer only produced cement, but also imported it, as a result of low freight costs and lower cement prices due to overproduction in countries such as South Korea, China and Japan. These new conditions allowed other competitors to enter the industry with a different business model based on the import of cement for the production of concrete or the import of clinker (Substance obtained as a result of kiln calcination of limestone mixtures artificially prepared clays with the eventual addition of other materials) installing cement grinding plants. Clinker was one of the key raw materials that was in the middle of the cement production chain, which was obtained from the calcination of limestone. As clinker was imported, it was no longer necessary to have limestone mining deposits. At the end of 2019, the General Manager, who had arrived at the company on January 1, 2018, had to propose to the Board of Directors the focuses to work to continue with the implementation of the Transforma 2021 Strategic Plan. The plan included a set of six initiatives with those seeking to renew the company given the changes that were already beginning to be reflected in lower financial performance. Two years after evaluating the implementation and results obtained, the General Manager sought to define the work focuses for each of the initiatives. Could changes in the industry affect a consolidated and long-standing company like Cbb? Where should you direct your effort to achieve the goals and expected results in the plan? Would the Transform 2021 Plan succeed in taking Cbb where they expected?

A roller mill is composed of several rollers, rotational table liners, hydraulic cylinders and raw materials are ground between the rollers and the table with the assistance with a shearing and compressive force. It has been reported that an unexpected fatigue failure occurred in a table liner in the course of grinding portland cement. It is subjected to the cyclic bending stress by the rollers load and the centrifugal force by the table rotation and fractures at the edge of grinding path of outer roller. It demands design life 4×107 cycles but has fatigue life 4×106 ~ 8×106 cycles. The purpose of this study is to reveal the failure mechanism of the table liner occurring in the grinding operation of roller mill and to show the structural design guidelines for reducing the fatigue failure.

A large number of biologically active substances, organic acids, tannins, and pectin substances were detected during the study of fruits, leaves, and pulp of the fruits of mountain Ash. The content of these substances in leaves and pulp will significantly expand the arsenal of medicinal plant raw materials used. Given the wide distribution of mountain Ash in the territory of the Russian Federation, harvesting leaves from the same plants after harvesting the fruit and using pulp will make it possible to obtain new phytopreparations.
