The aim of the research is to develop a Russian-language version of Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS) by M. Savickas and E. Porfeli and test its psychometric properties on a Russian sample of high school students from 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. The relevance of the study is determined by the modern society demand for the search, creation and development of effective tools for diagnosing meta-skills that are conducive to a persons professional self-determination, success and well-being. The study involved 607 people (360 girls and 247 boys) aged 15 to 19. The Russian-language version is identical to international form of Career Adapt-Abilities Scale. It includes 24 items that are summarized to give a total score for diagnosing career adaptability and are equally divided into four subscales to measure adaptability resources, including: concern, control, curiosity, and confidence. The internal consistency coefficients of the scale and its subscales ranged from good to excellent and were close to the corresponding parameters of the international version of CAAS. The study demonstrated the retest reliability of CAAS, the factor structure and correlations of the general indicator of career adaptability and its parameters with other psychological constructs associated with personality traits, regulatory mechanisms and processes of professional self-development. Thus, the adapted Russian-language form of Career Adapt-Abilities Scale is a reliable and valid tool for studying personal career adaptability and career-adaptive resources in Russian-speaking samples. Further research is related to the analysis of the age invariance of the method; it is also planned to study its invariance separately in men vs women groups. The article contains the text of the questionnaire, instructions and keys.

Career development literature that tested the career construction model of adaptation has, thus far, examined adaptability resource as a mediator in the relationship between adaptive readiness and adaptation results; however, there remains a need to elaborate the links between adaptive resources, adapting response, and adaptation results. This research tested a path model among 331 Filipino senior high school students using hope, career adaptability, career engagement, and life satisfaction as measures of adaptive readiness, adaptability resources, adaptive response, and adaptation results, respectively. Analyses revealed a significant serial relationship from hope to life satisfaction through career adaptability and career engagement. Findings suggest that having career-related abilities may not be enough to promote well-being; rather proactive career behaviors may be taken as a route to a satisfying life. Implications on theory, research, and practice are discussed.

The results of adaptation of the Russian-language version of the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI) (Parker, Tupling, Brown, 1979) with "Mother's Attitude" and "Father's Attitude" options are presented in the article. The questionnaire is aimed to assess the perception of parenting attitudes among young people. According to the original (English) version of the questionnaire, aspects of parental attitude perception can be measured as quantitative indicators of the questionnaire scales: 1) "Care" and 2) "Overprotection". The "Care" scale consists of 12 statements such as “Seemed emotionally cold to me”, “Enjoyed talking things over with me”, “Did not talk with me very much”, etc. The "Overprotection" scale includes 13 statements such as "Felt I could not look after myself unless she/he was around", "Let me decide things for myself", "Let me dress in any way I pleased", etc. The study involved 504 high school students enrolled in schools in the Moscow and Leningrad regions, Samara and St. Petersburg, aged from 14.4 to 19.1 years, among them were 174 9th grade students (44.2% male), 169 10th grade students (34.7% male) and 161 11th grade students (51.1% male). The structure of the questionnaire was studied using exploratory factor analysis of the correlation matrix of the responses to 25 items of each version. The method of principal components with Varimax rotation was chosen for the analysis. The confirmatory factor analysis suggested the two-factor structure of the questionnaire was confirmed, with the following scales: “Care” and “Overprotection” for the options "Mother's Attitude" and "Father's Attitude". For reliability assessment, the scales were tested with the Cronbach's alpha coefficient of internal consistency. Satisfactory internal consistency of the scales on both options was revealed. The Cronbach's alphas reach satisfactory values both for Care and Overprotection scales. The effects of gender and age on the questionnaire scores were estimated. According to analysis, there are no sex differences of perception of maternal and paternal attitude in both “Care” and “Overprotection” scales. It was shown that the effect of age was statistically significant for “Overprotection” scale for paternal attitude only, with a small effect size. The effect of interaction of age and sex was statistically significant for “Care” for paternal attitude only, with a small effect size. According to the psychometric indicators presented in this paper, the Russian-language version of PBI can become a reliable tool to measure high school students’ perception of the parental attitude.

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between high school students’ social support, career adaptability and subjective well-being that are perceived from their family, teachers and friends. The study group consisted of 325 students (193 girls, 132 males) in three secondary schools located in Cukurova and Yuregir districts of Adana city. The data were collected through Career Adaptability Scale, Life Satisfaction Scale, Positive and Negative Affect Schedule and Perceived Social Support Scale and Personal Information Form developed by the researchers to reach the demographic information of the participants. A path analysis was conducted within the framework of structural equation modeling to investigate the relationship between social support, career adaptability and subjective well-being that the students perceived. Data analysis was done through SPSS and AMOS package programs. Correlation coefficients of arithmetic mean, standard deviation, pearson moment analysis were calculated, and path analysis was performed based on the observed variables. The research findings show that there is a significant relationship between subjective well-being, career adaptability and perceived social support. The perceived social support from family, teachers and friends are variables that predict the career adaptability of high school students. Career adaptability has also been found to be a significant predictor of subjective well-being.

Abstract Nearly 1,000 officer-involved killings occur each year in the United States. This article documents the large, racially disparate effects of these events on the educational and psychological well-being of Los Angeles public high school students. Exploiting hyperlocal variation in how close students live to a killing, I find that exposure to police violence leads to persistent decreases in GPA, increased incidence of emotional disturbance, and lower rates of high school completion and college enrollment. These effects are driven entirely by black and Hispanic students in response to police killings of other minorities and are largest for incidents involving unarmed individuals.

The possible relationships among creativity, intelligence, and self actualization were examined in 208 high school students to determine whether or not consistent self actualization scores existed for subjects high in the first two variables. Students high in both creativity and intelligence had significantly higher scores in self actualization than those obtained by students high in either creativity or intelligence. No significant difference in self actualization was found between students high in creativity only and those high in intelligence only. The results were interpreted as indicating that educational systems should stress both intellectual and creative abilities to achieve the highest level of psychological well being in students.
