The COVID-19 pandemic affects almost all aspects of life, including social and language aspects. One of the phenomena of language change is the emerging of new words during COVID-19. Taken from a linguistic perspective, this research aims to analyze the new words created during COVID-19, to analyze their meaning of the new words, and how they affect human social life. The method used in this research is discourse analysis using a descriptive qualitative research design. The researchers collected these new English words from social media, books, articles, and news. Findings reveal that there are nineteen new English words created during COVID-19. These new words are now very popular on social media and are used in general conversation. In addition, it suggests that these new words have profoundly affected our social life and also the teaching and learning process of English.

This study provides a good basis for the teaching and learning method for qiraat. Research in qiraat does not stop at the end because the qiraat mean the words of God Almighty. The written of this article is to explain the teaching and learning method for qiraat subject at Maahad Tahfiz Negeri Pahang (MTNP) as it is a major subject aside al-Qur‘an been teach in the institution. In addition, the writer also aims to improve the methods used by lectures at MTNP. The study employed qualitative research design with interview and observation as the method in collecting data. The finding showed lecturers at MTNP used multiple techniques and strategies to ensure the students understanding on the qiraat subject is at an excellent level even though the lecturers is still using the classical techniques which are talaqqi and musyafahah as it becomes the key of success from the previous years. The teaching and learning method applied in MTNP is at a good level with the engagement of the students in teaching and learning process that took place and make the condition of teaching and learning is at conducive level.

This research identified types of politeness strategies used by a male and female lecturer in the EFL classroom based on the theory of Brown and Levinson. This research also investigated students’ perception toward the use of lecturers’ politeness strategies in the EFL classroom. This research applied the descriptive qualitative research design to describe the phenomena of politeness strategies. The subjects of this research were two English lecturers and fifteen university students. All of them chosen by using purposive sampling. The instrument of this research was observation and interview.  The observation was conducted three meetings for every lecturer by using an audio recorder and field notes. The audio recorder was used to record lecturers’ utterances in the teaching and learning process. The field notes were used to obtain more accurate data. The interview was conducted to get the data from the students. The interview is done to find out about the students’ perception toward the use of politeness strategies in the classroom. The result of this research showed that male and female lecturers used four types of politeness strategies namely bald on-record, positive politeness, negative politeness, and off-record. Furthermore, the students perceived that male and female lecturer was polite. The students perceived that the male lecturer was more formal while the female lecturer was friendly.

The study focuses on the positive reinforcement that is used by the teachers in each class and students’ perception towards reinforcement itself. This research involved two English teachers and two different classes of year ten students in SMA Kristen YSKI Semarang. To describe the use of reinforcement by the teachers, their teaching process were recorded and observed. Questionnaire and interview were done at the end of the lesson to describe how the students perceive reinforcement. This study is qualitative research.  The data showed that the teachers used various types of reinforcement based on the theory of reinforcement by Moore (2007). They are Verbal, Non-verbal, Vicarious, Delayed, and Qualified Reinforcement. They used almost all types of reinforcement, except the Delayed Reinforcement. In general, Non-verbal Reinforcement was mostly used by the teachers. The interview results showed that the students agreed that reinforcement is important and useful for them during teaching and learning process.

The aim of this research was to find out how the teachers implemented principles of classroom management in teaching and learning process at SMKN 3 Padang during teaching and learning process. This is a qualitative research. The data were the result of observation and interview. The participants of this research were three English teachers of SMKN 3 Padang who teach at grade X, XI and XII. The finding of this research indicates that English teachers at SMKN 3 Padang do not implement almost all of the principles of classroom managements during teaching and learning process. They implemented them in three stages of teaching; such as pre-activity, whilst-activity and post activity. Almost all of the principles of classroom management are implemented in whilst-activity. At pre and post-activity, the teacher only implemented three principles, such as warm and enthusiasm, emphasizing on the positive things and building self-discipline. Moreover, the data shows the teachers’ reasons in implementing classroom management. The reason is increasing students’ motivation and achievement. It can be concluded that the English teachers at SMKN 3 Padang should improve their focuses to the principles of classroom management in teaching English. Hopeful, this research can be a significant contribution for English teachers in teaching.

This study aims to explain the application of hypnoteaching method in spiritual values learning. This type of research is library research. This research is qualitative research. The primary source used in this study is the thought of Muhammad Noer in his book entitled Hypnoteaching For Success Learning. This research concludes that the hypnoteaching method is a learning method that combines teaching and learning with hypnosis. This method can be used as one of the methods in the process of learning spiritual values. In its application, the hypnoteaching method emphasizes the cognitive, affective and psychomotor aspects of students through positive suggestions. Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) is a demanded strategy to be applied in any teaching activities, including English teaching and learning process. This HOTS application offers attainable learning outcomes to the teachers when conducting teaching activities. Teachers are able to see how far students can learn based on cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspect. However, there were problems which teachers found and challenged them to encounter the problems to keep the implementation of HOTS successful. This research was carried out to figure out teacher’s self-reflection on problems found and to determine decisions how to encounter them. In line to the research purpose, a qualitative research design was applied within interview and questionnaire. Furthermore, based on teacher’s reflection, it was revealed that during learning activities the students acted unmotivated and lack of confidence; they lacked English interest; and HOTs was not applied properly based on its stages. Then, decision making was established in terms of teaching strategies and lesson planning. In conclusion, despite the importance of creating HOTS to invite students to be creative and critical, problems still remained. Thus, self-reflection did assist teacher to analyze and figure out what teaching weaknesses are and imply to the HOTS application to improve teaching and learning process.

The swift flow of globalization has led to increasingly eroded Indonesian local culturalvalues. This has caused a shift in neglected cultural values and local wisdom. Therefore,an approach is needed, namely ethnoscience in the learning process. This studypurposed to determine whether The Elementary School of Muhammadiyah Alam SuryaMentari has applied ethnoscience in science learning and describe the implementationof ethnoscience based on science learning in The Elementary School of MuhammadiyahAlam Surya Mentari.The method used was descriptive qualitative research design. Theresults of the study showed that the planning of science learning based on ethnoscienceapproach in This School was still unplanned, but the school had unconsciously implementedethnoscience approach. The implementation of science based on ethnosciencelearning was by integrating between the material with the environment, culture, and socialin the environment. Evaluation of the implementation of ethnoscience based on sciencelearning included cognitive, affective, and psychomotor evaluation in accordance withevaluation standards in the 2013 curriculum.

The object of education is human being. Undersanding student developmental psychology is essential in teaching and learning process. The research entitled “The Implementation of Teaching and Learning for Islamic Education Subject (Fiqh) Based on Cognitive Developmental Psychology Levels In MTsN Malang 1” is intentionally aimed to explore how the teaching and learning on Islamic studies (Fiqh) could be implemented by considering the students developmental psychology.  This is descriptive qualitative research utilizing two perspectives as theoretical bases, Islamic perspective refers to Prophet Muhammad theory, and western perspective refers to Jean Piaget and Lev Vygotsky theories. The research begins by finding the problems, then breaking theories down to be reasearch instrument and comparing it as applied in model school, MTsN Malang 1. The result, based on both Islamic and western perspective theories, shows supports. Teaching and learning process are considered to implement interactive and cooperative models. Interactive model is implemented by utilizing learning technology such as LCD-projector and computer to show audio-visual contents, quiz creator and edmodo. And cooperative model is implemented not only by learning technology, but also language development applied in mapping and presentation set. Analysis result shows that teaching and learning based on cognitive developmental levels gives more understanding for most students’ proved by students’ interest and excellent score. The novelty is that the research used developmental psychology which specified on cognitive to be applied in Islamic Education subject (Fiqh).

This study was conducted as an attempt to investigate in what step of scientific approach theteachers most frequently use translation in English Language Teaching as well as to find out the teachers’reasons toward the use of translation in English Language Teaching based on scientific approach atSMP Negeri 4 Singaraja and SMP Negeri 5 Singaraja. It was conducted in qualitative research design.There were two teachers chosen as the subjects of study. The data were collected through audio recordingthe teaching and learning process and interviewing the subjects of study, while the techniques ofanalyzing data were done descriptively following the four processes according to the theory of Miles &Huberman (1984), namely: data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Theresults of analysis indicated that the teachers most frequently used translation in exploring step of scientificapproach. In addition, there were seven teachers’ reasons found in relation to the use of translationin the classroom, namely to help the students’ difficulty in: (1) understanding the instruction given bythe teacher, (2) understanding the English vocabulary, (3) asking something in English, (4) understandingthe tenses or grammar, (5) understanding the material deeply, (6) doing the task, and (7) presentingtheir work. The related parties interested in the same area of the research should give deeper concern indoing wider range of aspects involved in further study.Keywords : Translation, the Use of L1 in ELT, Scientific Approach
