Reading comprehension is needed by students in order to have a good reading skill. In this journal, the researchers are trying to examine the implementation of NHT technique in improving students’ reading comprehension of narrative text. Quantitative used as the research method with pre-experimental research design. There are three stages in conducting pre-experimental design. First, students are given pre-test to measure their knowledge. Second, students are given the treatment and last, students are given posttest after using NHT technique. In conducting the data, the researchers spend seven times consisted of pretest, posttest, and five times treatments. As the result, the mean score of pre-test is 43.58. After implementing NHT technique in every meeting, reading comprehension of students had been getting better, it can be seen in average of the mean score of post-test became 62.45. It can be concluded that NHT technique can improve students’ reading comprehension.Keywords:  Numbered-head together, Students’ reading comprehension

This study is a CAR. The objective of this study is improve reading comprehension through reciprocal teaching strategy for the ninth grade student. The researcher answered 2 problem questions of research 1) can the use of reciprocal teaching strategy improve the students’ reading comprehension in the 9th grade of MTs At-Taqwa Cihampelas? 2) How far does the use of reciprocal teaching strategy improve the 9th of MTs AT-Taqwa? Design of the research was CAR. It was conducted in 2 cycles. The teacher analyzed the students’ reading comprehension in each cycle. The results showed that (1) the use of reciprocal teaching strategy can enhance students reading comprehension step by step from cycle 1 and 2. It is proved with the students score, the mean score pretest in cycle I 52.57 and the mean of the posttest in cycle I 63.14.The mean of the post-test in cycle II 71.71.the last cycle means score was categorized as good. The improvements in students understanding indicates that reciprocal teaching strategy is effective and applicable when deals with the students’ problem in reading narrative text.Keywords: Reciprocal teaching, reading comprehension, narrative text.

The present study aims at exams the effectiveness of small group discusssion in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text of the tenth -grade students of SMA NEGERI 1 WOLOWAE. Teaching reading comprehension is recommended in Senior High School because reading comprehension is very important. In competence based on curriculum, students are understanding to comprehending the conten of the text. The research is carried out through quantitative research with an experimental method because the researcher gives treatment in teaching writing. In conducting the research, the researcher uses one group pre-test-post-test design. The researcher gave pre-test before treatment and post-test after treatment to get the data. In this research, the researcher took twenty students as a sample. The result of the study shows that the score of pre-test was 61 while the mean score of post-test was 81.5 and the mean score of differentiate was 20.5. On the other side, it was found that the result of t-score is bigger than t-table (9,71 > 2,11) at the significant level of 0,05. Therefore, based on the hypothesis testing, we can conclude that the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is accepted while the Null Hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Based on the result, it can be concluded that the using small group discussion as a method is effective to increase students reading comprehension of the students’ of Senior High School, especially for the tenth grade of SMA NEGERI 1 WOLOWAE. Based on this findings, it is suggested, that the teacher should try to apply an interesting method.

This research is aimed to improve students’ reading skill and vocabulary mastery through self-access centre at tenth grade students of SMAN 5 Kota Serang. This research was conducted for three months. This study tries to answer the main questions (1) how is students’ learning process of reading and vocabulary through self-access centre? (2) how is students’ learning achievement of reading and vocabulary through self-access centre? The method used in this research was a classroom action research. The action research was conducted in two cycles. Each cycle was consisted of four steps; planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The data were collected through qualitative and quantitative techniques. The qualitative data were collected by analysing the observation. The quantitative data were obtained from the students score in pre-test and post-test. The study showed that there was improvement on students’ reading comprehension and vocabulary mastery. The mean scores are 53.64 for reading pre-test and 64.92 for vocabulary pre-test. The results of post-test in cycle I show 65.12 for reading post-test and 72.96 for vocabulary. In cycle II, students get 70.88 for reading post-test and 76.36 for vocabulary post-test. The result specifies that self-access centre is successful in improving students reading comprehension and vocabulary mastery.

This study is classified as quantitative through pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test design.  The population of this research is the students of SMP Negeri 3 Ratahan. It was limited only to the second year studens. There were 30 students. The data were collected through test. The first test is pre-test, the teacher intends to know the students’ reading comprehension without using question and answer technique. The second test is post-test in which the teacher has used question and answer technique in teaching reading comprehension. The result shows that the scores of the students in post-test are higher then those in pre-test.  This is shown by the mean score of pre-test which is 5.5 and mean score of post-test which is 7.8 Keywords: Question and Answer Technique; Reading Comprehension

The purpose of the study is to improve students’ reading comprehension of narrative text using Picture and Picture. This study is delimited on using picture and picture in teaching reading comprehension in Narrative Text to the first year student of SMK Santa Familia Tomohon. In this research, the researchers use quantitative research. Where quantitative research is used to obtain and to collect the data in the form of numbers, through Pre-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test. Based on the explanation of previous chapters, it can be concluded that; picture and picture technique is effective to improve students’ reading comprehension, teaching reading comprehension by using picture and picture can help student improving their comprehension in reading and increase their cooperation to develop the other language skills. Then, the result of this research shows that the students’ score in Post-test is higher than their score in Pre-test. It means that Picture and Picture technique in teaching reading comprehension is effective. Therefore, it is suggested to apply Picture and picture technique in class related to the situation and material that is going to be taught in school to improve more about students’ skill not only in group but also personally. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of discovery method in teaching reading comprehension. The design of research used is a pre-experimental research, and the data were collected by using measurement technique with multiple-choice reading test as the tool of collecting data. The obtained data were analyzed by using t-test. The results of data analysis showed that discovery method has the effect on the students’ ability in reading comprehension. The mean score of the students’ pre-test was 58.2 whereas the mean score of post-test was 64.8. The effect size of the treatment was 0.98 which is categorized as moderate effect. Thus, the alternative hypothesis that the use of discovery method in teaching reading comprehension on narrative text is effective to the eighth-grade students of SMP Kartika Kubu Raya in academic year 2016/2017. Therefore, the researcher believes the teachers can use the discovery method in their teaching learning process, especially in reading comprehension on narrative text.

Abstract. The objectives of this research was to find out the whether using picture in improving students reading ability for the eleventh grade students of MA NW Pringgasela is effective and to find out significant differences in the reading skill between the students who were tauhgt by using picture and those who are not taught by using it.This research was an experimental research. The participant of the research were the tsudents of the eleventh grade of MA NW Pringgasela. Class Xia as an experimental group and class Xib as a control group. The research instrument used by the wriiter was in the form of reading comprehension test. The data in this research were mainly gathered through the test pre-test and post-test. The pre-test was administrated to see the student’s ability in reading comprehension before using picture were used. The post-test was administrated to see the student’s progress in reading comprehension. After the data was collected, the researcher then analyzed them by using t-test to see whether there was any significant difference in reading comprehension after using picture were aplied.in teaching reading to students of MA NW Pringgasela eleventh grade Xia and Xib. The mean score of experimental group in pre test was 61.5 while the mean score for the control group was 61.1. meanwhile, after using picture on report text The findings of the research show that first using picture was effective to be used were used, their reading skill got improved. It can be inferred from the result of the students post test. In the post test, the mean score for the experimental group changed to 79.5. The t-test showed a significantt difference in teaching reading after using picture on report text. Finally, it could be concluded that using picture was good in teaching reading on report text, and the use of it could improve the students’ ability in reading. Teachers can use it as a media in teaching reading. It can also give information for readers and become reference for other researchers

This study aims at examining whether students’ reading comprehension can be improved by using Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) technique. This research used pre experimental design with one group pretest and post-test. The sample of this research was 34 students of tenth grade of SMK Pasundan 1 Cimahi in academic year 2017/2018. The instrument of this research was test which consist of multiple choice question. The data of this research was collected by giving reading comprehension test to students. The collected data of this research was analyzed using SPSS program. Then, the result of data analysis showed that mean of pretest 55.59 and after the implementation of Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) technique the mean of posttest became 67.79. It shows that there are significant differences between pretest and posttest. Based on the data analysis, the null hypothesis was rejected. In other words, teaching reading comprehension using Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) technique had significance improvement on students’ reading comprehension. The implementation of Team Accelerated Instruction (TAI) technique in teaching reading comprehension was able to resolve those difficulties since it required the students to share, discuss, and unite their thought or problem on comprehending the content of the text with other members of their group.

The objective of this study is to investigate the influence of NISP strategy on students� achievement in reading comprehension. The population was all of the tenth grade students of SMA GKPI Medan. The sample was the students of X-IPS 2 (experimental) and X-IPS 1 (control). This study used experimental design. The mean score of pre-test in experimental class was 64 and the post-test was 81,53. The mean score of pre-test in control group was 51,26 and the post-test was73,53. Moreover, the analysis of t-test showed that tscore > ttable or 3,01 > 1,672 at the level of significance 0,05 with the degree of freedom (df) 58. It is clear that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. It means that NISP strategy is effective media in teaching reading narrative text.
