<p><em><strong>Español</strong></em></p><p>Con base en la perspectiva del Desarrollo Positivo del Adolescente, el objetivo de este estudio fue analizar la contribución de las dimensiones del bienestar psicológico sobre la satisfacción vital en adolescentes mexicanos tempranos y medios. Participaron de manera voluntaria 572 estudiantes de 13 a 18 años de edad (Medad=15.24; DE=1.90) de escuelas secundarias y bachilleratos públicos de la Zona Metropolitana de la Ciudad de México. Se aplicó una Cédula Sociodemográfica del Adolescente y su Familia, la Escala del Bienestar Psicológico para Adolescentes y la Escala de Evaluación Afectivo-Cognitiva de la Vida. Los adolescentes presentaron valores por arriba de la media en el bienestar psicológico y la satisfacción vital. Se encontraron relaciones significativas entre las dimensiones del bienestar psicológico y la satisfacción vital. La autoaceptación y el autocontrol predicen la satisfacción tanto en adolescentes tempranos como medios, aunque las relaciones positivas y el propósito de vida fueron predictores significativos en los primeros y los planes a futuro en los segundos. Estos hallazgos podrían orientar el diseño de programas para promover el bienestar psicológico y la satisfacción vital considerando las etapas del desarrollo de la adolescencia.</p><p><strong><em>English</em></strong></p><p><span>Based on the Positive Development of Youth perspective, the aim of this study was to analyse the contribution of psychological well-being and its dimensions on life satisfaction in early and middle adolescence. Participants were 572 students, aged 13 to 18 years (Mage=15.39; SD=1.90), from public high and senior-high schools in the Mexico City Metropolitan Area. The Adolescent and Family Sociodemographic Schedule, Psychological Wellbeing Scale, and Affective-Cognitive Life Evaluation Scale were administered. The adolescents studied showed values above the mean for both, psychological well-being and life satisfaction. Significant relationships between the dimensions of psychological well-being and life satisfaction were found. Self-acceptance and self-control predicted life satisfaction for both early and middle adolescents; however, positive relationships and life purpose, were predictors of life satisfaction for early adolescents, whereas future plans were a predictor for middle adolescents’ life satisfaction. These findings could help in designing programs to promote well-being and life satisfaction according to adolescent developmental stages.</span></p>

The quality of aging or life after retirement is determined by levels of psychological well-being and life satisfaction. The levels of psychological well-being and quality of life satisfaction can be influenced by multiple factors including personality, perception of individuals about aging and the quality of respect they get from others. This study was conducted with 170 elderly individuals ranging from 65 to 85 years of age. The results showed significant relationships between dependent variables such as psychological well-being and life satisfaction, and the independent factors including personality, perception of aging and respect from others. Purpose This paper aims to advance the design-thinking approach in food from an engineering mind-set toward a positive psychology perspective by investigating how consumer experiences evoked by food-related activities can facilitate, stimulate and enhance individuals’ happiness and perceptions of life satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach A diary field experiment was conducted. Participants from a major European city were asked to reflect on their food-related activities, provide descriptions and answer questions on experiential stimulation derived from these activities in relation to happiness and perceived life satisfaction. Findings Food-related activities generally result in positive consumer experiences and psychological well-being. Experiential stimulation resulting from food activities is positively related to perceived life satisfaction directly and indirectly via pleasure and meaning. Although the authors found an overall positive relationship between these constructs, they also found differences based on the experience type considered. A “crescendo model” of experiences that details how experiences lead to happiness and perceived life satisfaction is presented. Research limitations/implications This study is largely exploratory. Future research should adopt an experimental approach and further test the relationship between experiential stimulation, happiness and perceived life satisfaction in the context of food. Practical implications The paper offers innovation teams in food companies a practical “crescendo model” that can be used to design product–consumer interactions. Originality/value The research bridges literatures on design thinking, psychological well-being and consumer experiences. By studying the relationship between experiences, happiness and perceived life satisfaction in the context of food, the findings contribute to research on food well-being by expanding the notion of happiness seen only as pleasure. The research also contributes to work on design thinking by offering an experiential framework that contributes to the notion of consumer empathy.

En este estudio se pretende describir el bienestar psicológico y la motivación de hockystas amateurs que estudian/trabajan y deben cumplir con una rutina de alto rendimiento para representar a Chile en el hockey césped. Para ello se indagó en el bienestar psicológico desde la perspectiva de Ryff, y en la motivación desde la Teoría de la Autodeterminación (TAD) de Deci y Ryan. Tras la compleja realidad a la que se enfrentan diariamente los deportistas de la muestra, es que surge el interés por conocer las variables psicológicas mencionadas anteriormente. Teniendo en cuenta que pudieran estar relacionadas a través de las diferentes dimensiones que las componen. Por lo tanto, al potenciar algunas de estas dimensiones se estaría influyendo tanto en el bienestar psicológico como en la motivación de los deportistas, lo que nos ayudaría a describir como es el bienestar psicológico y la motivación de estos. This study aims to describe psychological wellbeing and motivation in amateur hockey players who study/work and must obey to a high performance routine to represent Chile in field hockey. Wellbeing approaches made by Ryff were considered for this research, as well as self-determination theory (Deci & Ryan) to investigate motivation. After the complex reality this amateur hockey players face every day, it becomes interesting to study the psychological variables mentioned above. Believing that they could be related through different dimensions that compose them. Therefore, when you maximize the dimensions of both theories, it would be directly influencing the psychological well-being and motivation of athletes, this could help us to describe psychological well-being and motivation of them.

Background: Abnormal frontal T-axis is an independent predictor of mortality, and may be influenced by increased sympathetic tone and cardiovascular disease risk factors. Factors related to poor psychological health, such as depression, are associated with increased risk of CVD morbidity, although the mechanisms are not clear. We tested the hypothesis that: 1) reduced psychological wellness is associated with abnormal T-axis and 2) this association may help to explain the excess risk of CVD morbidity and mortality related to poor psychological health. Methods: We studied 4485 community-based adults aged 25–65 years without a history of CVD from NHANES I (1971–75) who were monitored for CVD hospitalization and death until 1993. Those with ECG evidence of previous MI, left ventricular hypertrophy, and major ventricular conduction defects (QRS interval ≥ 120 ms) were excluded. Frontal T-axis was obtained through 12-lead ECG, and a deviation of ≥ 30° from normal (45°) was considered abnormal. Psychological well-being was measured with the General Well-Being Scale (GWB). Results: The mean ± SD age was 43.1 ± 11.5 years and 55% were women. The mean ± SD GWB score was 80.5 ± 17.3, the median frontal T-axis was 51°, and 13% had an abnormal T-axis. In cross-sectional analysis adjusting for age, sex, and race, a 1-SD decrease in GWB was associated with an OR of 1.12 for abnormal T-axis (p=0.01). This effect was unchanged after adjusting for systolic blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, total cholesterol, and BMI. Abnormal T-axis was associated with CVD hospitalization/death (adjusted HR 1.29, p=0.01), as was GWB (adjusted HR 1.104 per 1-SD decrease, p=0.01). When both factors were included in the model, the HR of GWB decreased by 8% to 1.096 (p=0.02). Conclusion: Abnormal frontal T-axis is modestly but significantly associated with reduced psychological wellness. Although this association may help understand neurocardiac relationships, it does not substantially explain morbidity and mortality associated with reduced psychological wellness.

Abstract Introduction During recent years, special attention has been given to spiritual well-being and religious practice in the field of health. This study aimed to determine the predictors of life satisfaction among adolescent girls in Tabriz, Iran, 2015. Materials and methods This cross-sectional study was conducted on 520 female students studying in high schools who were selected using the cluster sampling method. Data collection was carried out through the questionnaires of socio-demographic characteristics, spiritual well-being (SWBS), religious practice (Arcury and colleagues) and life satisfaction (SWLS). Multivariate linear regression model was used for data analysis. Results The mean score of life satisfaction was 22.0 (SD: 6.0) from the attainable score of 5–35. The mean score (SD) of spiritual well-being was 90.2 (16.2), ranging from 20 to 120. The mean score of the religious practice was 32.1 (10.5) out of the achievable score range of 0–60. Multivariate linear regression analysis showed that existential well-being and sufficiency of income for expenses were predictors of life satisfaction and they explained 41.8% of the variance in the life satisfaction score. Conclusion The findings of the present study confirm the importance of existential well-being and a modifiable variable (sufficiency of income) in the life satisfaction. Thus, it is necessary to provide strategies to promote spirituality and improve the income status for improving adolescents’ life satisfaction.

The entry of youth into the prisons would lead them to the loss of independence, difficulties in adapting, and lonely feeling, which ultimately affects the condition of psychological well-being. Here, psychological well-being is an essential condition to make teenagers, i.e., convicts, be able to defend their lives for serving a sentence. The study aims to provide an overview of the psychological well-being of juvenile prisoners and to investigate the factors that influence the formation of psychological well-being. In this case, the study employs an exploratory qualitative approach to the subject of two teenage inmates. The prison chosen is located in Class II A Sidoarjo. The data are obtained from interviewing technique and field notes. The results show that inmates have better psychological well-being than when they entered the prison early. The condition is proved at the subjects’ ability to adjust themselves to the environment, develop self-potential, accept themselves in a positive attitude, self-control and self-reliant, have a purpose to live and be able to establish positive relationships with others. Meanwhile, the factors that influence the formation of psychological well-being in inmates are social support, social interaction, and social skills while they are in a prison.

The main purpose of this cross-sectional study, carried out with deaf parents and blind parents, is to analyze the association of coping strategies, life satisfaction, well-being, and generalized self-efficacy, compared to a group of parents without a sensory loss. The Coping Orientation to Problems Experienced, Satisfaction with Life, Generalized Self-efficacy, and Psychological Well-Being scales were applied. Results indicate that: (1) deaf parents and blind parents search for social support, use avoidance, and turn to religion more than those without a sensory loss; (2) deaf parents are more satisfied with life than blind parents and those without a sensory loss; (3) deaf parents and blind parents perceive themselves as less efficacious than those without a sensory loss; (4) deaf parents and blind parents report lower psychological well-being (autonomy and personal growth) than those without a sensory loss, except for self-acceptance. Searching for social support and turning to religion are negatively associated with life satisfaction in deaf parents and those without a sensory loss; further, these coping strategies (together with avoidance) affect the psychological well-being of deaf parents and parents without a sensory loss. Future research could investigate deeper into the effects of these dimensions on well-being and the styles of parenting in these families.

The present paper considers daily hassles in different life domains, reveals their connections to the level of strain and perceived stress, investigates the role of psychological well-being and life satisfaction in the perception of the number of stressors and strain caused by stress. Methods: Inventory of daily stressors (Petrash et al.), Scale of perceived stress (Ababkov et al.), Psychological well-being scale (C. Ryff), Life satisfaction scale (E. Diener), a survey on satisfaction with different life domains. Sample: 334 adults aged 20—60 (118 males, 216 females). Results revealed hassles in all the life domains. Most pronounced hassles in women were those related to health, loneliness, competitiveness, job; most pronounced hassles in men were job-related, financial, health and family stressors. Perception of daily hassles was associated with an increase in the levels of stress overstrain and perceived stress. The number of stressors and the level of overstrain was higher in women. Psychological well-being, subjective well-being, and financial satisfaction were shown to be direct positive predictors of the number of perceived hassles and the level of overstrain.
