Ageing of an individual affects hearing impairment and associated diseases can have a cumulative affect. In 50 examined subjects suffering from Diabetes Mellitus type 1, who were divided into groups according to age, gender and disease duration, auditory function was tested by analyzing results of pure-tone audiometry and brainstem auditory evoked potentials. The obtained results were correlated with the results of 30 healthy controls adequately represented by age and gender. Starting from the age group 30-39 we noticed a significant reduction in the percentage of regular findings in comparison with the control group, as well as an increase in the percentage of sensorineural hearing impairment and mean values of hearing impairment (-dB). In regard to gender, we found a continuing and significant increase in sensorineural hearing impairment in the examined male subjects from the group with the disease. The analysis and correlation of brainstem auditory evoked potentials regarding the age of the examinees did not show any significant impact on the increase in the mean values of the diseased and the controls, whereas regarding the gender, we noticed a significant impact on the increase in the mean values of absolute latencies II (Fd/l=5.1249/9.8144), III (Fd/l=14.0413/9.3169), IV (Fd/l=7.1413/6.3410) and V (Fd/l=12.8753/6.1208) waves as well as of interwave latencies I-III (Fd/l=5.2193/4.9628) mutually in the male examinees. In the diseased group there were significant differences of interwave latencies I-III in men and women both on the left and the right side, where the values in the female subjects were significantly shorter than in the males.

Aim. The aim of the present study was to examine the relationship between articular eminence inclination, height, and thickness of the roof of the glenoid fossa (RGF) according to age and gender and to assess condyle morphology including incidental findings of osseous characteristics associated with osteoarthritis (OA) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).Materials and Methods. CBCT images of 105 patients were evaluated retrospectively. For articular eminence inclination and height, axial views on which the condylar processes were seen with their widest mediolateral extent being used as a reference view for secondary reconstruction. Condyle morphology was categorized both in the sagittal and coronal plane.Results. The mean values of eminence inclination and height of males were higher than those of females (P<0.05). There were significant differences in the RGF thickness in relation to sagittal condyle morphology. Among the group of OA, the mean value of the RGF thickness for “OA-osteophyte” group was the highest (1.59 mm), whereas the lowest RGF values were seen in the “OA-flattening.”Conclusion. The sagittal osteoarthritic changes may have an effect on RGF thickness by mechanical stimulation and changed stress distribution. Gender has a significant effect on eminence height (Eh) and inclination.

To compare growth and glycemic control in children with type 1 diabetes and silent celiac disease treated with a gluten-free diet for 1 year with those of similar age and gender with type 1 diabetes but without celiac disease, 16 type 1 diabetes patients with silent celiac disease were enrolled and each celiac disease-positive case was matched for age, sex, and duration of diabetes with two type 1 diabetes controls with negative serologic markers of celiac disease. All 16 children with positive celiac disease serology had histologic features consistent with celiac disease despite the absence of symptoms. The mean growth and metabolic control values were similar between children with type 1 diabetes and celiac disease and those with type 1 diabetes but without celiac disease. This study seems to suggest that the early diagnosis of celiac disease and initiation of a gluten-free diet may prevent further deterioration in the nutritional status of children with type 1 diabetes and celiac disease and may reduce the prospect of celiac disease complications without any impact on type 1 diabetes control.

Introduction: Hypertension has been perceived as a worldwide health worry for non-industrial nations and is hardly depicted in a considerable lot of these nations. Objectives: The main objective of the study is to find the Comparison between lercanidipine and amlodipine for efficacy and tolerability in patients with hypertension. Material and methods: This cross sectional, comparative study was conducted in PIMS during January 2021 to June 2021. After permission from hospital ethical committee, total 120 patients meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria will be enrolled in the study from Medical Emergency and admitted in PIMS. Detailed history, physical examination and necessary investigations will be done to meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Informed consent will be obtained. Results: The data was collected from 120 patients of both male and female. Table 01 shows the mean values of systolic and diastolic BP according to age and gender. The mean systolic and diastolic BP of all the study subjects were 124.2 ± 15.0 mmHg and 83.4 ± 9.5 mmHg, respectively. In men, the highest mean systolic BP and mean diastolic BP were among the eldest age group and preceding eldest age group. Conclusion: It is concluded that lercanidipine is associated with considerably lower incidence of vasodilation related side effects than amlodipine, especially pedal edema. Introduction: In the last few decades data on the incidence of acute myocardial infarction are not available in Hungary. Aim: The aim of the authors was to define the incidence of myocardial infarction using the Hungarian Infarction Registry according to the number of in- and out-of-hospital cases in five districts of the capital (districts II, III, IX, X and XVII) and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county. Method: Besides using the Hungarian Infarction Registry, databases of the National Public Health and Medical Officer Service and that of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office were used in order to define the incidence of prehospital cases, according to the regulations presented in an earlier proposal of the Data Protection Ombudsman of Hungary. Results: For 10 000 residents the incidence of myocardial infarction in the capital was 28.63 in males and 16.21 in females, while in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county the mean incidence was 32.49 for males and 18.59 for females. The mean incidence of myocardial infarction in the five districts of the capital in males and females did not differ from the mean values of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county. When comparing the incidence values in different districts of the capital to the countryside, the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county had significantly higher values for both males and females compared to districts II and III of the capital, while in district X the incidence of myocardial infarction in males was significantly lower compared to the values in the countryside. Conclusions: Using the mean incidence results projected to the capital and countryside population according to age and gender, 20 000 new myocardial infarction cases might be expected per year in Hungary. Introduction. Hearing loss is considered to be a subsequent complication of diabetes. Material and methods. Auditory function was analyzed in 50 patients suffering from diabetes mellitus type I, and through results of pure-tone audiometry and brainstem auditory evoked potentials in regard to the existence of subsequent complications of the disease, diabetic neuropathy (n = 20) and retinopathy (n = 13). Results and discussion. The results were correlated with the ones in those having a disease, but without these complications and the control group of 30 healthy examinees of the adequate gender and age. Patients suffering from this disease for over 10 years (83.33%), were found to have high frequency of diabetic neuropathy, increased average sensorineural hearing loss (73.04%). The average age was significantly higher (35.5 ? (3SD = 5.3) in accordance with 23.2? (3 SD = 6.3), and the disease lasted much longer (17.5 years towards 5.7 years) in those suffering from neuropathy. In the presence of diabetic retinopathy it was found that the average sensorineural hearing loss was increased for 50.43%, in comparison to those without signs of retinopathy. The average sensorineural hearing loss was found to be higher for 62.58% to 76.81% in patients with retinopathy preproliferance and retinopathy profilerance than in those with established retinopathy nonproliferance. In the presence of diabetic retinopathy, a significant difference was observed in latencies of III and IV waves from the right, and latencies of I, IV and V waves from the left ear, this is, interwaves latencies of I-III on the right ear and III-V and I-V on the left ear. Conclusion.. Subsequent complications of diabetes mellitus type 1 (neuropathy and retinopathy) have positive correlation with the significant level of sensorineural hearing loss, particulary expressed in function of patients' age, and latencies extention of brainstem auditory evoked potentials.

Aim: Foramen mentale is the anatomical formation in which the vein and nerve package feeds and provides sensory innervation to the chin and lower anterior lip area. During implant surgery and osteotomy operations, it is important to know the anatomical morphometric characteristics because of mental nerve damage. This study aims to determine whether mental foramen differ depending on age and gender. Method: 100 patients (50 females-50 males) who applied to neu faculty of dentistry and received kıbt for various reasons between 2020-2021 were included in the study. spss program was used for statistical analysis. a p value of <0.05 was considered significant. Results: The mean superoinferior diameter of the right and left mental foramen was 3.20 mm and 3.21 mm, respectively. The mean values were 3.12 mm and 3.18 mm for right and left mental foramen, respectively. It was found that the right and left mental foramen are located between the 1st and 2nd premolars. Anteroposterior and superoinferior diameters of the right and left foramen do not differ according to the localization of the mental foramen (p> 0.05). It was found that the parameters except the superoinferior diameter of the right mental foramen did not show a statistically significant difference according to gender (p> 0.05). It was found that the right mental foramen superoinferior diameter of males was statistically higher than females. (p <0.01). It was found that the anterosuperior and superoinferior diameters of the mental foramen did not vary according to age (p> 0.05). Conclusion: According to the result we obtained from this study, it was determined that the superoinferior diameter of the mental foramen was higher in men. This result will guide for those working in the field of anatomy, oral maxillofacial surgeons and oral maxillofacial radiologists.

The aim: Is to evaluate copetin’s, MRproADM’s and troponin’s I dynamic in patients with acute myocardial infarction depending on the degree of concomitant obesity. Material and methods: The study included 105 patients with AMI. There were formed 2 groups: 1st group of patients with AMI and concomitant obesity (n=75), 2nd group – patients with AMI without obesity (n=30). 37 patients had obesity of the I degree, 38 patients - II degree. The groups were comparable in age and gender. Copeptin, MRproADM, troponin I were determined by enzyme immunoassay method. Data are presented as mean values and the error of the mean (M±m). Differences were considered statistically significant at p<0,05. Results: It was found an increased copeptin’s level by 73,8 % (p<0,001) in obesity I degree and by 205,9 % in obesity II degree compared with group with isolated AMI, MRproADM - by 30,68 % (p<0,001) and 54,5 % (p<0,001) respectively. Concentration of copeptin was higher by 76 % (p<0,001) in patients with AMI and II degree obesity comparing to patients with obesity of I degree, and MRproADM - by 18,3% (p<0,001) respectively. Troponin I value fully corresponded the comparison group both in obesity of I degree and II degree (p>0,05). Conclusions: The present study provides evidence that a high activity of copeptin and MRproADM in patients with AMI and obesity of I degree with an excessive activity of a marker of vasoconstriction copeptin in conditions of moderate inadequate to the needs MRproADM functioning in patients with obesity of II degree.

Background: Frozen shoulder is disorder of the connective tissue that limits the normal Range of motion of the shoulder in diabetes, frozen shoulder is thought to be caused by changes to the collagen in the shoulder joint as a result of long term Hypoglycemia. Mobilization is a therapeutic movement of the joint. The goal is to restore normal joint motion and rhythm. The use of mobilization with movement for peripheral joints was developed by mulligan. This technique combines a sustained application of manual technique “gliding” force to the joint with concurrent physiologic motion of joint, either actively or passively. This study aims to find out the effects of mobilization with movement and end range mobilization in frozen shoulder in Type I diabetics. Materials and Methods: 30 subjects both male and female, suffering with shoulder pain and clinically diagnosed with frozen shoulder was recruited for the study and divided into two groups with 15 patients each based on convenient sampling method. Group A patients received mobilization with movement and Group B patients received end range mobilization for three weeks. The outcome measurements were SPADI, Functional hand to back scale, abduction range of motion using goniometer and VAS. Results: The mean values of all parameters showed significant differences in group A as compared to group B in terms of decreased pain, increased abduction range and other outcome measures. Conclusion: Based on the results it has been concluded that treating the type 1 diabetic patient with frozen shoulder, mobilization with movement exercise shows better results than end range mobilization in reducing pain and increase functional activities and mobility in frozen shoulder.

Introduction: Proximal humerus fractures (PHF) constitute the majority of the most common osteoporotic fractures. Bone density measurements can affect treatment methods and outcomes. This study was aimed to investigate the effect of osteoporosis values, measured from direct radiographs, on fracture type, surgical outcomes. Methods: 248 patients over 50 years of age who presented to Mersin City Hospital between 2017 and 2020 with proximal humeral fractures were retrospectively evaluated. The age and gender of the patients and the fracture types were evaluated according to the AO classification system from the direct radiographs obtained at the time of admission were recorded. The Tingart cortical thickness and deltoid tuberosity index (DTI) measurements were used to assess osteoporosis status in all patients. Postoperative and follow-up radiographs of 45 patients, treated with fixed-angle proximal humeral locking plate, were evaluated for radiographic results and their correlations with osteoporosis measurements were examined. Results: According to the demographic characteristics of the patients, 171 patients were female and 77 patients were male (F/M: 3/1), and mean age was 69.2 ± 11.66 (50-95). Considering the bone quality parameters in all patients, the mean Tingart value was 5.8 ± 1.6 mm and the mean DTI was 1.43 ± 0.17, where there was a correlation between the Tingart value and DTI (r = 0.810 and p < 0.001). Although there was a statistically significant relationship between the osteoporosis parameters and age and gender (p < 0.001 and p = 0.023, respectively), main AO fracture types were not related to osteoporosis (p < 0.05). In the operated group (n = 48, 19%), 19 patients (42%) showed poor outcomes, which were not associated with age and osteoporosis parameters. Conclusion: This study was concluded that osteoporosis parameters differ between genders and age groups in patients with PHF, however osteoporosis is not the main factor affecting the fracture type and surgical outcomes.

Purpose The aim of this study was to detect early retinal vascular changes with optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) patients without diabetic retinopathy and to evaluate the correlation of the results with carotid intima-media thickness (IMT). Design This is a case–control and cross-sectional study. Methods This study included 38 adult patients with T1DM, and 38 age and gender-matched healthy controls. Retinal and optic disc (OD) measurements were taken using OCTA. The carotid artery IMT of each patient was measured using Doppler ultrasonography. Superficial capillary plexus (SCP) and deep capillary plexus (DCP) vessel density, foveal avascular zone (FAZ), non-flow area (NFA) and foveal density (FD) were analysed in the fovea centred 6 × 6 mm macular area. The superficial capillary plexus and DCP were also scanned centred on the peripapillary region. The correlations between OCTA measurements and carotid IMT, duration of DM and haemoglobin A1c levels in patients with T1DM were evaluated. Results The mean values for carotid IMT were significantly higher in diabetic patients than in controls ( p < 0.001). The mean values for vessel density SCP, DCP and OD were significantly lower in the diabetic group ( p < 0.05). There were correlations between the carotid IMT and duration of T1DM and the evaluated parameters of OCTA. Conclusion Microvascular changes in the SCP and DCP in patients with T1DM without DR offer important data. OCTA can be used to detect early microvascular changes in patients with T1DM without DR. In addition, a relationship was found between SCP vascular dropout and carotid IMT.
