Personal guidance centers on problems of personality, physical and emotional development, interpersonal relations and similar matters. But vocational guidance given to students may or may not influence their career after graduation. This study thus examined extent at which vocational guidance influence career decision of vocational and technical students. This is a descriptive research design of the survey type. 220 technical students were sampled all technical education students in Ilorin metropolis. Frequency count and mean were used answer the research questions and Hypothesis was tested with t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The findings established that vocational guidance has been able to influence career decision making of vocational and technical education students to a high extent. Also, there was no significant difference in the impact of vocational guidance on career choice of junior and senior vocational and technical education students. It was therefore recommended that Vocational and Technology Education students should be exposed to the importance of guidance services and what counseling is all about in order for them to make good career decisions.

The government policy directive to secondary schools has been to diversify their programs to include vocational and technical education in the 6-3-3-4 system in order to make provision for students with varying aptitudes. This article explores the impact of this policy by examining some factors affecting the implementation of the policy in private secondary schools in Edo state. Subjects for the study were fifty (50) students, fifty (50) teachers and five (5) principals randomly drawn from five(5) private secondary schools in Edo State. The study utilized interviews, observations and a questionnaire to assess the implementation of government policy onvocational and technical education in private secondary schools in Edo State. The findings showed that there was a dearth of qualified teachers for vocational and technical subjects, poor infrastructure, lack of equipment, instructional materials and books. The schools were not adequately financed. It was observed that the federal government did not make adequate preparations before it issued directives for the take off of the programs in the schools. Recommendations were made for the federal government to sensitize the public on the importance of vocational and technical education, as it plays a vital and indispensable role in the economic and technological development of the country.

PurposeThe major objective of this study is to examine the efficacy of the technical and vocational training courses imparted to generate employment or enhance the productivity of participants.Design/methodology/approachThe study was conducted in the province of Sindh, Pakistan by adopting a quasi-experimental approach. The experiment was conducted on 105 individuals—with the age group of 20–25—distributed between the treatment group and the control group. The data collected through the experiment were analyzed by applying a paired-sample t-test, independent sample t-test and one-way between-group analysis of variance (ANOVA).FindingsThe findings of this study show statistically significant higher monthly earnings of Rs14, 223 after the training intervention program. Findings also exhibit a significant difference in monthly earnings between the control and the treatment groups.Practical implicationsThe findings of the study can provide useful input to policymakers while devising the policies regarding technical education and vocational training (TVET) and to the international donors in assessing the impact of the training initiatives.Originality/valueThis study presents experimental-driven evidence on the role of technical education and vocational training in improving the labor market outcomes.

Internet Resources and Technologies have become an integral part o f education globally. Computer education and computer in education are two aspects o f technology that enhanced Teaching and Learning o f Vocational and Technical subjects. In addition, it stressed the importance o f teaching and learning o f Vocational and Technical Education (VTED) in technology fantasy environment using simulation, interactive, explorative, and subject specific software. It highlighted the impact o f using internet and technologies in the unification o f some modern teaching strategies, the barriers faced by developing nations, and urges schools to expand their libraries to include ICT unit for universal access. Some recommendations were forwarded which includes: Internet facilities and computers should be provided in all vocational and technical institutions o f learning, and powerful broadband servers should be provided that will stand the test o f time.

This research aimed to explore the impact of difficulties faced by adolescents in making a career decision on their mental health. The objective of the research was to explore the factors affecting career decision making and to explore the psychological effect of career decision making difficulties. A quantitative research design was used to collect data through online survey by random sampling method in which a sample of 70 adolescents aged between 18-24 both male (28) and female (42) were collected from Rawalpindi, Pakistan and then analyzed on SPSS. A correlation (p: .002) was found between career indecisiveness and mental health. Independent T test result suggested that gender difference exists with respect to career indecisiveness indicating a value of p to be .01, while one way ANOVA indicated a value of p to be .382, showing that no significant difference exist with respect to respondents age. A chi square result indicated the factors affecting career decision making to be parental (p: .000) and peer pressure (p: .002) and indicated that career decision making time period is stressful for adolescents who feel difficulty in making a career decision (p: .000) indicating a psychological effect. Thus, the hypothesis was proved that adolescents face career decision making difficulties which negatively impact their mental health and it is recommended that they should be given career guidance to help them out in exploring what they really want to do in their lives instead of making a wrong career and regretting it later.

This study determined the behavioral skill outcome of technical education students engaged in cooperative learning. Specifically, the study sought to identify the effects of cooperative learning on technical education student’s communication skill, problemsolving skill and critical thinking skill. There were three research questions posed, and the analysis was driven by three null hypotheses tested at (P<.05) level of significance. It has adopted a quasi-experimental design for the study and intact classes were assigned to treatment groups. The study's population was 41 students of Technical Education (TE), consisting of 41 year 3 students of Industrial Technical Education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, which was the treatment group allocated to the teaching method of cooperative learning. The instrument used for data collection was the self-assessment inventory of communication skills (CSSAI), the inventory of problem-solving skills (PSSI), and the California Critical Thinking Skills Test (CCTST). Three technical education experts had subjected the instruments to face and content validation. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the study questions while Paired-sample t-test was used to answer the null hypotheses. Findings showed, among others, that there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest mean scores taught by Automobile Lighting System students who use cooperative learning in terms of behavioral skill outcome. Among others, it was proposed that technical education teachers be encouraged to use the cooperative learning method in teaching automotive lightening program.

Technical Vocational Education and Training Program, also known as TVET, is broadly recognized as one of the most prominent disciplines in the education system. Technical education, as included in Pakistan's national education policy, is concerned with the quality technological human capital leading to a national pool of skilled and self-reliant artisans, technicians and technologists in the fields of vocational and technical education. The descriptive research design was used, and a total of 625 students and 137 TVET institutes of Balochistan participated in the study. The instrument for data collection was an adopted, and amended questionnaire based on study constructs, and data were collected by the researchers. Opportunities lie in the emerging demand for skills in CPEC projects, global markets of Europe, the Middle East and neighboring Gulf states for conventional work and profits, national skills requirements, human capital optimization through workforce skills development, provincial incorporation of skills in major projects.

Összefoglaló. Az utóbbi évtizedek tapasztalatai szerint a nappali tagozatos felsőoktatási hallgatók fizetett munkavállalását növekvő tendencia jellemzi, azonban a kutatók nem jutottak konszenzusra az eredményességre gyakorolt hatásával kapcsolatban. Kutatásunk célja, hogy feltárjuk a hallgatói munkavállalás hatását az eredményességre és a tanulmányok iránti elköteleződésre. A Társadalmi és szervezeti tényezők szerepe a hallgatói lemorzsolódásban című NKFIH által támogatott kutatás (PERSIST 2019) adatai alapján (N = 2199) a rendszeresen dolgozó hallgatók eredményesebbek, mint a nem dolgozó társaik. Az elkötelezettség és az oktatókkal folytatott intenzív kommunikáció, kapcsolattartás terén nincs jelentős különbség a hallgatói csoportok között. Ebben a vonatkozásban azt láthatjuk, hogy a rendszeres munkavégzés nem gátolja az egyetemi pályafutásukat, s nem akadályozza meg az intézményen belüli kapcsolatok kialakítását. Summary. Research in recent decades has shown an increasing trend in paid employment for higher education students, but researchers have not reached a consensus on its impact on performance. The aim of our research is to explore the impact of student employment on academic performance and engagement to study. Based on data from PERSIST 2019 (N = 2199), students who work regularly are more successful than their non-working counterparts. Furthermore, there is no significant difference between the student groups in terms of engagement and intensive communication and contact with the lecturers. In this respect, we can see that regular work does not hinder their university careers, and nor does prevent the development of relationships within the institution.

The research investigated age, type of school and career decision-making difficulties. It used a purposeful drawn sample of 341 secondary school students in Delta State. To guide the study, two research questions were raised and two hypotheses were formulated. The Career Decision-Making Difficulties Questionnaire (CDDQ) by Gati, Krausz and Osipow (1996) was used for data collection. Data obtained were analysed by inferential statistics of mean, standard deviation and t-test analysis. The results revealed no significant differences in terms of age and type of school attended, but there was a significant difference between private and public schools in seven of the ten distinct categories. The impact of the worldwide pandemic can drive the school to work and apply various procedures in actualizing educational programs in the class. The Coronavirus pandemic may demolish existing emotional well-being issues and lead to more cases among youngsters and youths in light of the interesting mix of the general wellbeing emergency, social confinement, and financial downturn," (Terada, 2020). This study is designed to identify and investigate the causes of stress and coping strategies adopted among distance education students at the College of Teacher Education in Kolehiyo ng Pantukan. The respondents of this study were the 159 education students enrolled in AY 2020-2021 second semester. The descriptive correlational method and quantitative research were chosen for the reason that it was correlational in nature since it was determined the significant relationship between the stressors and coping strategies. The result shows that there was no significant difference in the perceptions of the respondents on the level of stress among education students as to gender and marital status. This study investigated the impact of workers` training programmes on industrial strike reduction among industrial workers in Nigeria. This is for the purpose of ascertaining the relevance of workers` training programmes, as an alternative approach to human capital formation, to industrial strike reduction among industrial workers in Nigeria. A total of 230 respondents were selected for the study using stratified sampling technique to reflect the two strata of public and private organizations. Two sets of questionnaire, with three subscales, titled ‘Workers Training Programmes Scale (WTPS) and Industrial Strike Reduction Scale (CRS) were used for data collection. All the hypothesized research questions were examined using Regression Analysis and t-test statistical methods at 0.05 alpha levels. The finding revealed that workers` training programmes (taken together) had significantly influenced industrial strike reduction among industrial workers. It was also found that only three independent variables (conflict skill, communication skill and interpersonal relations skill training programmes) have significantly influenced industrial strike reduction. However, it was found that management skill and computer skill training programmes were not as significant in influencing industrial strike reduction in selected work organizations. Also, there was no significant difference in the level of female and male workers` participation in workers` training programmes in both public and private organizations selected for the study. Based on the findings of study, it is recommended that workers` training programmes should be given priority by all establishments in order to forestall industrial peace for all levels of workers. Also, training needs of the organization as well as that of workers must be identified before making recommendations for training.
