Abstract. The wide availability of affordable smartphone and tablet in the market leads to the increase of internet access using mobile devices. Some users have started to leave desktop devices and are now using mobile devices. Some decide to use mobile device, some are still using desktop device, while some others are using both. This study aims to analyze the differences in the users’ behaviours when visiting a website in a desktop and mobile version. The aspects of the user behaviour studied are page view/visit, time on site, bounce rate, and registration ratio. The data are taken and saved by Google Analytics and database website which are analyzed by using descriptive statistic and ANOVA. The result shows that the desktop version has high value in those previously mentioned aspects compared to the mobile version. Keywords: User Behaviour, desktop, mobile, analytics.Abstrak. Membanjirnya smartphone dan tablet di pasaran dengan harga terjangkau, mendorong naiknya pengaksesan internet menggunakan mobile device. Sebagian user telah berpindah dari pengguna desktop device menjadi pengguna mobile device. Sebagian masih tetap menggunakan desktop device, dan sebagian lagi menggunakan keduanya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengembangkan website multi-screen danmenganalisis perbedaan user behaviour ketika mengunjungi website versi desktop dan versi mobile. Adapun user behaviour yang diteliti adalah: pageview/visit (banyaknya halaman yang dibuka user tiap berkunjung), time on site (durasi kunjungan user), bounce rate (rasio user yang hanya membuka satu halaman kemudian meninggalkan website), dan registration ratio (rasio user yang bersedia mendaftar). Data diambil dan disimpan oleh Google Analytic dan database internal website, yang kemudian dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan ANOVA. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa semua jenis user behaviour website versi desktop dan versi mobile yang diteliti mempunyai perbedaan yang signifikan.Kata Kunci: User behaviour, desktop, mobile, analytics.

In recent years, the number of mobile device users has increased at a significant rate due to the rapid technological advancement in mobile technology. While mobile devices are providing more useful features to its users, it has also made it possible for cyber threats to migrate from desktops to mobile devices. Thus, it is important for mobile device users to be aware that their mobile device could be exposed to cyber threats and that users could protect their devices by employing cyber security measures. This study discusses how users in responded to the smart mobile devices (SMD) breaches. A number of behavioural model theories are used to understand the user behaviour towards security features of smart mobile devices. To assess the impact of smart mobile devices (SMD) security and privacy, surveys had been conducted with users, stressing on product preferences, user behaviour of SMD, as well as perceptions on the security aspect of SMD. The results was very interesting, where the findings revealed that there were a lack of positive relationships between SMD users and their level of SMD security awareness. A new framework approach to securing SMD is proposed to ensure that users have strong protection over their data within SMD.

Now a day’s mobile communication has become a serious business tool for the users. Mobile devices are mainly used for the applications like banking, e-commerce, internet access, entertainment, etc. for communication. This chapter identifies how the theory of polymedia is integrally linked to developments in mobile communication. The term polymedia aims to capture media as composite environments—instead of discrete technologies—which users navigate in order to manage their relationships. The popularization of internet-enabled portable devices, such as smartphones and tablets, and the parallel wide availability of wireless services have given rise to a culture of ubiquitous connectivity. Smartphones enable the accessing of a mini-ecosystem of platforms and applications while on the move. The related affordances of ubiquitous connectivity, portability, and fluidity between platforms are vital for the emergence of polymedia practices. Mobile communication developments have also contributed to improved internet access, which is one of the preconditions for polymedia practices to emerge. The theory of polymedia in turn offers a distinctive approach for understanding smartphones as mini-ecosystems in their own right and, ultimately, for understanding the micro-workings of mobile communication.

<p class="ArticleTitle">In recent years, the increasingly innovative and diverse mobile devices have significantly promoted the mobile device-based shopping. What factors influence this kind of shopping? Will consumers purchase things with mobile devices? These are two topics that need to be explored. Through the literature analysis and the empirical research, this study aims to analyze the quality of information, system, service and mobile devices on the mobile device-based shopping platform. Moreover, it studies the attitude of consumers towards mobile device-based shopping, their willingness to adopt the shopping method and the behavioral relationship model in the actual mobile device-based shopping as well as compares the groups of different frequencies of the Internet use in terms of the relationship model.</p>  With the convenient sampling, this study made an investigation among some of those who had experienced shopping on such mobile devices as tablets or smart phones. The 765 retrieved valid copies of questionnaire were divided into three groups—“often”, “average” and “seldom” according to the frequency consumers undertook mobile device-based shopping and were then compared. The results showed that there were significant differences among the three groups in four relationship paths, including: 1) the information quality of the mobile device-based shopping platform has more significant positive influence on consumers’ attitude path of mobile device-based shopping in the “average” group than in the other two; 2) the service quality of the mobile device-based shopping platform has more significant positive influence on consumers’ attitude path of mobile device-based shopping in the “seldom” group than in the other two; 3) the preference for mobile device-based shopping has much significant positive influence on the behavior path of mobile device-based shopping in the “often” group. According to the research results, different groups have different behavior models. These results can serve as reference information in the decision-making of those who establish mobile device-based shopping platforms and manufacture mobile devices.

This paper focuses on the behavior of Trojan horses in mobile devices. This malicious software tries to steal information from a mobile device while the user is unaware. We describe the communication links through a Trojan horse installed into a mobile device. To demonstrate the effects of a Trojan horse infection we present a practical example on a PDA. Via SMS, the malicious user can access a user?s contacts information through the previous installation of the Trojan horse. The results show that this process means a loss of information and a quantified cost to the attacked user too. This paper proposes different solutions to avoid this malware and its effects.

This paper presents the experimental study of using phase change material in the cooling of the mobile devices. It investigates the thermal performance of transient charging and discharging of mobile devices in three different situations; making phone calls frequently, making long duration calls, and making occasional calls. The results show that mobile devices are heated up fastest during the long duration usage. Experiments are also conducted to determine the effect of fins and effect of orientation of the mobile device on its thermal performance.

Optical wireless LANs (OWLs) constitute an emerging networking paradigm for indoor scenarios’ fit to different smart cities’ fields of applications. Commercial products employing this technology have been made available on the market in recent years. In this work, we investigate, through a set of indoor communication experiments based on commercially available products, how different environmental and usage modes affect the performance of the system, addressing the presence of multiple users, the position and mobility of the mobile devices, the handover among adjacent cells and the effect of background lighting. Our finding shows that the system is quite robust with respect to the variation of operational conditions. We show that, in most conditions, the links can reliably sustain a stable throughput, achieving at least 50% of the throughput achieved with using the maximum light intensity of the transmitting lamp, while they are affected in a very mild way by factors like position and height of the mobile device, and virtually unaffected by variations in the background light.

BACKGROUND Mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones are increasingly used in health care in many developed countries. Nurses form the largest group in health care that uses electronic health records (EHRs) and their mobile versions. Mobile devices are suggested to promote nurses’ workflow, constant updating of patient information and improve the communication within the health care team. However, little is known about their effect on nurses’ wellbeing. OBJECTIVE The present study aimed to examine the association of mobile device use of the EHR with nurses’ perceived time pressure, stress related to information systems (SRIS) and self-rated stress. Moreover, we examined whether mobile device use modifies the associations of EHR usability (ease of use and technical quality), experience in using EHRs and number of systems in daily use with these wellbeing indicators. METHODS The present study was a cross-sectional population-based survey study among 3,610 Finnish registered nurses gathered in 2020. The associations were examined using analyses of covariance and logistic regression adjusted for age, gender and employment sector (hospital, primary care, social service and other). RESULTS Those who used mobile version of their EHR had higher levels of time pressure ( F(1)= 14.96, p < .001) and SRIS ( F(1)= 6.11, p = .01) compared to those who did not use mobile versions. Moreover, the interactions of mobile device use with experience in using EHRs (F(1) = 14.93, p < .001), ease of use (F(1) = 10.16, p = .001) and technical quality (F(1) = 6.45, p = .01) were significant for SRIS. Inexperience in using EHRs, low levels of ease of use and technical quality were associated with higher SRIS and this association was more pronounced among those who used mobile devices. That is, the highest levels of SRIS were perceived among those who used mobile devices and were inexperienced EHR users, perceived low levels of ease of use or low levels of technical quality of their EHR. CONCLUSIONS According to our results it seems that at the moment mobile device use is not beneficial for the nurses’ wellbeing. In addition, mobile device use seems to intensify the negative effects of usability problems of the EHRs. Especially inexperienced users of EHRs seem be at disadvantage when using mobile devices. Thus, we suggest that EHRs and their mobile versions should be improved in a manner that they would be easier to use and would better support the nurses’ workflow. For example, improvements to problems related to small display, user interface and difficult data entry of mobile versions might be useful. Moreover, more training related to EHRs, their mobile versions and workflow related to these should be provided to nurses.

The availability of new mobile devices (tablets and smartphones) equipped with many sensors is changing or, better, enriching the way we monitor and sense the world that surrounds us. The internet has permeated completely not only our scientific and technological development, but also our life. Only some years ago, we used geospatial data and GIS software installed within our computers. Nowadays, data and operators are provided via the net by means of distributed and shared geo-services and a simple and powerless mobile device is enough to connect them. The possibility of interaction has become not only faster and more user friendly but also active, being individuals and communities free of adding, deleting, and changing contents in real time in the new GeoWeb2.0. <p>What are the effects of using mobile devices as part of teacher professional development focused on teaching and learning the Māori language for Māori immersion educational settings? Answers to this question are explored by researching the extent to which electronic devices could be an effective strategy to address the crisis of the continuing decline of the Māori language. Another issue explored in the research is whether learners make expected gains in language proficiency through the use of mobile devices in comparison to standard face-to-face methods of language instruction.  An indigenous framework, Hei Korowai, was used to guide the research and ensure the practices used were culturally appropriate, particularly when entering into and negotiating the research project with participants. Kaupapa Māori and Māori centred approaches were also drawn on to gather data from semi-structured interviews, observations of mobile device use, online questionnaires, and Māori language proficiency tests results. Fifty two participants in total took part in the research, 46 from a PLD programme that used mobile devices and 6 from a separate PLD programme that used mainly face-to-face instruction.  Electronic forms of second language acquisition could be advantageous for learners to access audio and video content on the move and at a time, pace and place convenient for them. The capacity to have literally a library’s worth of resources, functions and internet connectivity all in one tool and at the touch of a button could also be of particular significance to users. Conversely, participant attitudes about technology, varied needs for initial and on-going training in how to operate the electronic devices, and interaction preferences were challenges experienced with utilising the device as part of the language learning and teaching process. Videos viewed on the device could also be seen as one-way learning with a lack of spiritual connection and no opportunities for discussion about content, potentially causing road blocks for learners who need extra support.  Face-to-face instruction was a preferred method for participants and the physical presence of the teacher highly valued to allow the space to pose and answer questions and receive an immediate response, which is not possible when learning via videos on a mobile device. However, there was acknowledgement of the complementary nature and value of utilising the mobile device followed by face-to-face meetings.  Evidence suggests that Māori have been quick to adopt and adapt new technologies since the arrival of the early settlers to the shores of Aotearoa. Could technology be the panacea, the cure-all for the revitalisation of the Māori language, a tool that provides access to language, culture and identity to the multitudes? This research tests the hypotheses in the context of two items of modern technology, the iPod Touch® and the iPad®.  The limitations of the research include potential bias in interpretation given the researcher’s insider position, the relatively small scale of the project, and the absence of a widely accepted theoretical framework for mobile learning. Critical questions that still remain are the implications of promoting ‘one Māori language’ for a large-scale programme and the risks in doing so for the preservation of tribal dialect and community identity. This study has, however, begun the conversation about the use of mobile devices in Māori medium educational settings, and it may contribute to an understanding of how to design technologies, media, and interactions to support learning within these settings towards innovative practices.</p>
