Pyramidal Microwave Absorber Design for Anechoic Chamber in the Microwave Frequency Range of 1GHz to 10GHz

The design of microwave absorbers is directly correlated to the general performance of an anechoic chamber for its signal absorptive capabilities. However, the cost of importing the total required microwave absorber for the 5m × 4m × 3m proposed anechoic chamber in the University of Port Harcourt Nigeria is at the tune of twenty-seven thousand dollars. This research is carried out to simulate and fabricate the microwave absorber using polyurethane material and locally obtained carbon in order to reduce cost. The simulation is done using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) software for the desired frequency range of 1GHz to 10GHz. Simulation results proved to have good absorptive performance and reflectivity loss comparable to that of the conventional microwave absorber. The reflectivity performance is below -30dB across the desired frequency range. With the polyurethane material and locally obtained conducting carbon the estimated cost is five thousand five hundred dollars against the twenty-seven thousand dollars importation cost; thereby reducing the cost by more than 60%.

Computer Simulation Technology EM and Computer Simulation Technology Microwave Studio electromagnetic simulation software were used to simulate the carbon fiber composite materials with a new type of wide frequency electromagnetic shielding coating. DC magnetic field, low-frequency electromagnetic fields, and mid-high frequency electromagnetic shielding effectiveness analysis model were established in order to study the influence of permeability, conductivity, coating thickness and other parameters in the typical frequency range research on the shielding effectiveness. The results show that the composite coating material with reasonable design can effectively enhance the electromagnetic shielding performance of carbon fiber composite materials in the DC [Formula: see text]18 GHz frequency range.

Agriculture waste has huge potential to be used as an alternative material for constructing microwave absorber which is typically used in an anechoic chamber. The existing microwave absorbers are normally manufactured from chemical substances. This project is proposing the use of a new composite biomass material namely coconut coir, for constructing microwave absorbers. Generally, pyramidal shape is chosen since it is commonly used in the industry. The major part of this project involves an intense study in designing and developing the best techniques to construct pyramidal shape microwave absorber. The frequency range investigated in this work is between 1GHz to 12GHz. Referring to the commercial absorber as the standard, the reflectivity performance of this coconut coir pyramidal absorber was thoroughly investigated in this research. It is then proven that the biomass material used in this study is found to have a significant impact on the microwave absorber performance.

Due to the tremendous development in the field of wireless communication and its use in several fields, whether military or commercial was proposed. A novel tapered slot Vivaldi antenna is designed and simulated at double band frequency (Ku-band) using computer simulation technology (CST) software 2020. The dimensions of the antenna are 2.3 × 1 × 0.4 mm<sup>3</sup> with a microstrip feed of 0.5 mm. The proposed antenna is improved by cutting a number of circle shapes on the patch layer in different positions. The simulation results are divided into more sections according to the number of circle shapes cutting. The results are good acceptance and make the improved Vivaldi antenna valuable in many future wireless communication applications.

In this chapter, several planar array designs based on the use of a small number of the active elements located at the center of the planar array surrounded by another number of the uniformly distributed parasitic elements are investigated. The parasitic elements are used to modify the radiation pattern of the central active elements. The overall radiation pattern of the resulting planar array with a small number of active elements is found to be comparable to that of the fully active array elements with a smaller sidelobe level (SLL) at the cost of a relatively wider beamwidth and lower directivity. Nevertheless, the uses of only a small number of the active elements provide a very simple feeding network that reduces the cost and the complexity of the array. Simulation results which have been computed using computer simulation technology-microwave studio (CST-MWS) show that the sidelobe level of the designed array pattern with parasitic elements is considerably better than that of the similar fully active array elements. The proposed array can be effectively and efficiently used in the applications that require wider antenna beams.

Abstract:The development of an innovative clinical decision-support project such as the University of Minnesota’s Clinical Workstation initiative mandates the use of modern client-server network architectures. Preexisting conventional laboratory information systems (LIS) cannot be quickly replaced with client-server equivalents because of the cost and relative unavailability of such systems. Thus, embedding strategies that effectively integrate legacy information systems are needed. Our strategy led to the adoption of a multi-layered connection architecture that provides a data feed from our existing LIS to a new network-based relational database management system. By careful design, we maximize the use of open standards in our layered connection structure to provide data, requisition, or event messaging in several formats. Each layer is optimized to provide needed services to existing hospital clients and is well positioned to support future hospital network clients.

A need exists for tools to improve evaluations of the economics of landfill gas recovery. A computer simulation tool is presented. It uses a spreadsheet computer program to calculate the economics for a fixed set of inputs, and a simulation program to consider variations in the inputs. The method calculates the methane generated each year, and estimates the costs and incomes associated with the recovery and sale of the gas. Base case results are presented for a city of 500,000. An uncertainty analysis for a hypothetical case is presented. The simulation results can help an analyst see the key variables affecting the economics of a project.
