The problem with partners is drop out youth who do not have competence. The condition of the community dropping out of school and working as unskilled labourers has an impact on the low level of public welfare. The distance between the Dharmasraya district and the provincial capital has an impact on the contrast of the quality of education carried out which causes the community to not understand the importance of education. So that some of the human resources in Dharmasraya have become manual labourers in plantations and factories. The purpose of implementing this service activity is to provide a solution to the problems faced by the community, especially for school dropouts. Most of the dropout youths who are junior high school (SMP) level do not have special competencies that make them have added value. The work carried out by this young man is only limited to gardening and does not guarantee economic prosperity. Through this service activity, TIM strives to provide competency in the welding field that can be used to open a business that is much needed by the community. The training activities were designed for 3 days which will be held from October 12 to October 14 2018. The speakers in this activity were Drs. Purwantono, M.Pd, who has a BNSP level I welding certificate and the second speaker is Junil Adri, M.Pd.T who has a BNSP level III welding certificate. On the first day, the speaker will convey the basic concepts in the welding process and demonstrate how to make weld grooves and connect the plate in the welding process. On the second day, the speakers began to invite participants to design products that could be made through welding activities in accordance with the needs of the community. In this activity, TIM directed to make a trellis fence. TEAM began to guide participants in the process of making a trellis. On the third day, the TEAM provided direction on how to weld entrepreneurial opportunities in the field. The chairperson of the service with TIM asked the kenagarian to be able to accommodate the birth of new entrepreneurs for youth who could make independent and productive people.

This study aims to analyze the influence of the BOS Program on junior high school dropout decisions in Purworejo Regency and analyze individual, family and school characteristics of junior high school dropout decisions in Purworejo Regency. This type of research is quantitative. The population used in this study were all junior high school children in Purworejo Regency with 24,827 students graduating from junior high school and 30 students dropping out of school. Data analysis method used in this study is binary logit regression. The results in this study indicate that the BOS Program has no significant effect on the decision of school dropouts because BOS funds cannot cover all school operational costs so that many school fees are charged to parents and there are other factors that cause children's decision to drop out of school. Individual characteristics in the form of education and health perceptions significantly influence the decision of school dropouts. Family characteristics in the form of the number of siblings, siblings drop out of school, help parents, and academic support of parents significantly influence the decision of children dropping out of school. School characteristics such as problems with teachers, problems with friends, and distance do not have a significant effect, while school dropouts have a statistically significant effect on the decisions of dropouts. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh Program BOS terhadap keputusan anak putus sekolah tingkat SMP di Kabupaten Purworejo dan menganalisis karakteristik individu, keluarga dan sekolah terhadap keputusan anak putus sekolah tingkat SMP di Kabupaten Purworejo. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif. Populasi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh anak sekolah menengah pertama di Kabupaten Purworejo dengan anak yang lulus sekolah menengah pertama sejumlah 24.827 siswa dan anak putus sekolah sebanyak 30 siswa. Metode analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah regresi binary logit. Hasil dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Program BOS tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap keputusan anak putus sekolah karena dana BOS tidak dapat menutup semua biaya operasional sekolah sehingga banyak biaya sekolah yang dibebankan kepada orang tua siswa serta terdapatnya faktor lain yang menyebabkan keputusan anak untuk putus sekolah. Karakteristik individu berupa persepsi pendidikan dan kesehatan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap keputusan anak putus sekolah. Karakteristik keluarga berupa jumlah saudara, saudara kandung putus sekolah, membantu orang tua, dan dukungan akademik orang tua berpengaruh signifkan terhadap keputusan anak putus sekolah. Karakteristik sekolah berupa masalah dengan guru, masalah dengan teman, dan jarak tidak berpengaruh signifikan, sedangkan teman putus sekolah berpengaruh signifikan secara statistik terhadap keputusan anak putus sekolah.

This research was motivated by the high independence of school dropouts in Jorong Koto Baru Lembah Gumanti District, Solok Regency, which was marked by their own income and their participation in community activities. The independence of teenagers dropping out of school was allegedly due to the efforts of parents in establishing their independence. The total population in this study were 25 teenagers who dropped out of school with a sampling of 60% so that there were 15 people. Data analysis techniques used are quantitative descriptive with percentage calculation. The results of the study found that, (1) the opportunity given by parents, (2) communication conducted by parents, and (3) the responsibility given in the formation of independence in Jorong Koto Baru was categorized as very good.Keywords: Efforts, Independence

Among San communities in Botswana, the rate of student disengagement from both primary and junior secondary school is an ongoing concern for educators. San learners leave school at all levels of primary and junior secondary education. Students who leave school have tended not to provide reasons as to why they are dropping out. This study investigated some of the reasons why San learners decided to drop out at primary and junior secondary school levels in the Central District in Botswana. In-depth interviews were undertaken with 20 former students living in five cattle-posts where the participants worked as cattle herders. The results indicate that some San drop out of school for reasons of survival, both within and outside school. The findings of the study offer insights into some of the issues that impede students within San communities in achieving their educational goals. Further, the findings could assist educational authorities in their review of current educational practices in Botswana so that that all citizens can be appropriately accommodated within the education system.

In the educational context, one of the biggest problems that affect the performance of school institutions is what concerns dropouts. This study aims to describe the state of the art of school dropouts. It considered that the decision of students to interrupt their training itinerary brings adverse effects not only for the subject who evades since the magnitude of this problem causes damage to the whole society. The method used was the conceptual bibliographic submitted by Nascimento-e-Silva (2012; 2020), which consists of four phases: a) definition of research questions; b) data collection; c) organization and analysis of data, and; d) generation of responses. The study inferred that among the causes detected in the consulted literature, there are both causes relevant to the personal scope of students who drop out and the causes related to the education system and how education is organized from an institutional point of view. The conclusion shows that the school institutions need to constantly observe what science produces about dropout, to strengthen themselves in terms of managing and controlling the causes that support the phenomenon of dropping out of school.

PurposeAlthough China has instituted compulsory education through Grade 9, it is still unclear whether students are, in fact, staying in school. In this paper, the authors use a multi-year (2003–2011) longitudinal survey data set on rural households in 102–130 villages across 30 provinces in China to examine the extent to which students still drop out of school prior to finishing compulsory education.Design/methodology/approachTo examine the correlates of dropping out, the study uses ordinary least squares and multivariate probit models.FindingsDropout rate from junior high school was still high (14%) in 2011, even though it fell across the study period. There was heterogeneity in the measured dropout rate. There was great variation among different regions, and especially among different villages. In all, 10% of the sample villages showed extremely high rates during the study period and actually rose over time. Household characteristics associated with poverty and the opportunity cost of staying in school were significantly and negatively correlated with the completion of nine years of schooling.Research limitations/implicationsThe findings of this study suggest that China needs to take additional steps to overcome the barriers keeping children from completing nine years of schooling if they hope to either achieve their goal of having all children complete nine years of school or extend compulsory schooling to the end of twelfth grade.Originality/valueThe authors seek to measure the prevalence of both compulsory education rates of dropouts and rates of completion in China. The study examines the correlates of dropping out at the lower secondary schooling level as a way of understanding what types of students (from what types of villages) are not complying with national schooling regulations. To overcome the methodological shortcomings of previous research on dropout in China, the study uses a nationally representative, longitudinal data set based on household surveys collected between 2003 and 2011.

The high incidence and prevalence of high school dropouts is not a new problem and may be viewed as an issue that has been researched time and time again with no clear next-step solutions. Indeed there does not seem to be a single key to solve the problem of students dropping out but, there are ways to help mitigate the factors that lead students to drop out of school. This chapter will provide research based indicators for identifying students at-risk for dropping out and present a myriad of approaches to reduce the dropout rate. While no one approach will likely yield large improvements, multiple approaches thought of in systemic terms can have a positive impact. Mentoring has been proven as an effective tool if implemented appropriately. Key indicators from highly effective mentoring programs are closeness of the mentor-mentee relationship, mentor characteristics, consistency of interaction, duration of mentoring, and contextual variables relative to the mentee’s social world. The ultimate goal is to improve the high school graduation rate and ensure students are college and career ready.

In Karangtaruna School Dropout Youth Training activities in Kotamatsum IV, Medan Area Medan City District has a very dense population, motivated by various tribes, different livelihoods and low parental education. As for the level of life there are still many who live below the average, with poor conditions, where parents are unable to pay for adolescents for school, causing many teenagers who drop out of school and unemployed .. With the Youth Training activities Karangtaruna teenagers dropping out will provide knowledge and ability in installing electricity and AC services to school dropouts from disadvantaged families, assisting the administration of Kotamatsum IV in realizing non-governmental organizations through Youth Organization, to provide skills, so that they have competence in finding work, or entrepreneurship in the field of installation. BACKGROUND Treatment dropout continues to be reported from iCBT interventions and lower completion rates are generally associated with lower treatment effect sizes. However, evidence is emerging to suggest that completion of a pre-defined number of modules is not always necessary for clinical benefit nor considerate of the needs of each individual patient. OBJECTIVE The study aimed to carry out a qualitative analysis of patients’ experiences of an iCBT intervention in a routine care setting in order to achieve a deeper insight into the phenomenon of dropout. METHODS Fifteen purposively sampled participants (8 female) from a larger parent RCT were interviewed via telephone using a semi-structured interview schedule that was developed from the existing literature and research on dropout in iCBT. Data was analysed using the descriptive-interpretive approach. RESULTS The experience of treatment leading to dropout can be understood in terms of ten domains: Relationship to Technology, Motivation to Start, Background Knowledge and Attitudes towards iCBT, Perceived Change in Motivation, Usage of the Programme, Changes due to the Intervention, Engagement with Content, Experience Interacting with the Supporter, Experience of Online Communication and Termination of the Supported Period. CONCLUSIONS Patients who drop out of treatment can be distinguished in terms of their change in motivation: those who felt ready to leave treatment early and those who had negative reasons for dropping out. These two groups of participants have different treatment experiences, revealing potential attributes and non-attributes of dropout. The reported between group differences should be examined further to consider those attributes that are strongly descriptive of the experience and regarded with less importance those that have become loosely affiliated.

South Africa, like many countries, has high numbers of learners who do not complete secondary schooling. This reduces these young people’s chances of finding work or of earning a better salary. It is thus important to understand the factors that contribute to high school dropout. In the study reported on here we investigated the factors that caused a number of female learners to drop out and return to high school in a rural community in Mpumalanga. The learners provided 3 reasons for dropping out of school: pregnancy, illness and immigration. The analysis of these factors suggests 3 underlying themes that influence the ability of children to remain in school, viz. health, policies and structures, and poverty. The implications of these and recommendations to address them are discussed. The authors argue that greater interdepartmental efforts are required to support vulnerable girls to remain in school.
