The objective of this study was to develop English learning media based on students’ needs. This research was conducted in SMP N 37 Medan for students in grade VII which consists of 30 students. This study followed the steps of research and development proposed by Borg and Gall (1983), which are 1) need analysis; 2) planning (develop preliminary form of product); 3) Collecting data; 4) designing media; 4) media evaluation; 5) revising (designing final product). It was found that 96.66% students agreed that the existing an interactive learning medium currently used by the students of Junior High School. The more relevant media were developed based on student needs, which can provide opportunities for students to participate in the classroom. The learning media were developed into 4 media based on 4 units of speaking materials. Then the learning media were validated by two experts. The average score of the validation was 90. It showed that the developed learning media were very good, relevant and feasible.Keywords:       English learning media, speaking, visual art media.

The objective of the study is to develop practical English speaking materials by using Problem Based Learning (PBL). The design of the study is research and development which attempts to develop descriptive and recount text for speaking materials. The steps of the research and development for the materials include self evaluation, expert review, one-to-one try out, small group try out, field test, and final product. The subjects of this research are the eighth grade students of State Junior High School 6 Metro. The result of the study is English learning material for speaking skill based on problem based learning.

The aim of this study is to develop Picture Series as a media for teaching writing procedure text at the third year students of Pahlawan Nasional Junior High School. The researcher used Research and Development (R &D) method through ten steps: observing, evaluating need analysis, developing first media, validating with experts, revising it, testing in small group, revising, testing in large group, revising, producing final product. The subjects of this research were 30 students from IX-1 class, and 34 students from IX-2 class. The instrument of collecting data was using questionnaires. The data were analyzed by descriptive text technique. The result of the product from two validators – an English lecturer from State University of Medan and an English teacher from Pahlawan Nasional Junior High School, was in scale of 4 which was in good quality. And the result from all of the students was in scale of 4 which was in good quality too. It means that the developed product/Picture Series is eligible to be used for teaching writing procedure text for the third year students in Pahlawan Nasional Junior High School. Keywords: Research and Development (R & D), writing procedure text, picture series

This research was conducted to develop an integrated science practicum guide with the theme of inquiry-based photosynthesis for junior high school students with student learning outcomes and activities. This research is a Research and Development research with small-scale trials in class VIII A and large scale at VIIIB. The results showed that the practical guide was valid and feasible to use by obtaining an average score of> 3.2 from each expert. After calculating the n gain formula, the classical gain n value is 0.56 (moderate), with the classical completeness percentage is 100%. The results of the analysis of students' understanding using practicum guides have been developed with an average of 83.84. Meanwhile, the understanding of students who did not use the practicum guide that had been developed obtained an average of 62.20. This shows that the understanding of students using the practicum guide that was developed is higher than without using the practicum guide that has been developed. The results of student activity increased after the second meeting with an average of 85.47% of students belonging to the "active" and "very active" categories. So it can be concluded that the integrated science practicum guide for inquiry-based photosynthesis for junior high school students has proven valid and suitable for use in learning. Abstract: The background of conducting this reseach began with the intention to develope an approprite English learning media for Junior High School students in the rural area by utilizing the traditional games. The seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Mendobarat, Bangka Regency academic year of 2018/2019 were involved as the population with 30 students as the samples taken by using purposive random sampling. In this Research and Development Research (R&D), the data were obtained from the distributed pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The procedures applied in this research were the one adopted from Lee and Owen (2004) with the following steps; analyzing students’ need by distributing the need analysis questionnaire, designing English learning media according to the data of need analysis, developing the first draft of the learning media, asking experts’ judgement, and validating it. Two kinds of test which were Alpha testing that involved material and content experts, and Beta testing that involved students were applied in the validation phase. Based on the finding of the research, it was found that the traditional games based English learning media was feasible to use by the seventh grade students of SMP N 1 Mendobarat, Bangka Regency. Therefore, this research leads to the recommendation to the students and teachers to consider traditional games as a feasible media to learn English.Key words: Traditional Game, Learning Media, English

Based on the preliminary research, it was found that Junior High School Students of IT Al-Birru Pekanbaru’s speaking skill regarding to recount text was very poor. So, the researcher decided to conduct a Classroom Action Research by using Video Subscribe to improve their speaking skill. It can be stated that the research aims at improving the students of Junior High School of IT Al-Birru Pekanbaru’s speaking skill by using Video Subscribe. The respondents of the research were twenty students of grade VIII.1, Junior High School of IT Al-Birru Pekanbaru. This research was done in a cycle with four meetings and a test. For collecting the data, a test, an observation checklist, field notes, and an interview were distributed. After analyzing the data in cycle I, it was found that the students' speaking ability was improved. It was proved by the students’ speaking criteria score; accent was about 60; grammar was about 74; vocabulary was about 79; fluency was about 72; and comprehension was about 78. So, the average score of students’ speaking ability was 72.4. This students’ speaking improvement was influenced by a factor namely interest. In the other hands, this video subscribe was very interesting media so it could foster the students’ participation and confidence during the process of learning activity especially in speaking regarding to recount text. No more students were inactive. They tended to be focus and active in doing communication such as addressing questions and giving comments.

This study aims to find out whether the use of Round Robin Technique can improve the speaking skill of junior high school students. This research was conducted in one class and applied the pre-experimental design that was one group pre-test and post-test design. There were four meetings in this research including pre-test and post-tests. The sample is students in one class that consisted of 32 students, with 15 females and 17 males. The instruments used to obtain the data were pre-test and post-test. The mean of the student speaking score of the pre-test was 43.71 and the mean of the post-test was 79.2. The improvement from pre-test to the post-test was 35.49 points. The average score of the students was 79.2, it was higher than the Criteria Mastery of Learning (or KKM, Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal) of a junior high school in Banda Aceh, which is 70.00. The result of this study can be shown in the t-test that there was an improvement of students’ speaking skill, with the t-test of 25.3, the degree of freedom is 31 and t-table is 1.696. Based on the result of the test, it can be concluded that the use of Round Robin Technique improved the students’ speaking skills. This technique offered the students’ chances to share ideas and opinion with their peers, speak up and express their argument in class.

This study aims to design Screencast O Matic as media of writing descriptive text for grade eighth students in Junior High School. The research was conducted by Research and Development (R & D) design through six stages; gathering information and data, analyzing the data, designing new writing media, validating to experts, revising writing media, and final product. The subject of this research was grade eighth students at SMP Negeri 27 Medan. The instruments used for collecting the data were interview and questionnaire. The data were gathered by administering interview to the English teacher and distributing questionnaire to 30 respondents to get the students’ needs in learning descriptive text. The writing media have been validated by two experts, English teacher and English lecturer. The average score from English teacher and English lecturer was 90,4% so it was categorized as Very Good. It means the developing Screencast O Matic as media of writing descriptive text is appropriate for grade eighth students in Junior High School. Keywords: Research and Development (R&D), Writing media, Descriptive text, Screencast O Matic

Abstrak Penelitian dan pengembangan ini bertujuan mengembangkan dan menghasilkan sebuah modul pembelajaran menulis puisi. Selain itu, penelitian dan pengembangan ini juga bertujuan mendeskripsikan proses pengembangan modul menulis puisi berbasisi experiential learning untuk siswa kelas VIII SMP, mendeksripsikan kelayakan modul berdasarkan penilaian dan validasi oleh ahli media, ahli materi, guru bahasa Indonesia, dan uji coba terhadap siswa. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian pengembangan dengan menggunakan deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian dan pengembangan modul berdasarkan penelitian dan pengumpulan informasi awal, perencanaan, pengembangan format produk, uji coba skala kecil, dan revisi akhir serta penyempurnaan produk memperoleh skor rata-rata 4,43 dengan persentase 88,6% bekategori “Sangat Layak” berasal dari penilaian dan validasi ahli media, ahli materi, dan guru bahasa Indonesia. Hasil dari uji coba terhadap siswa memperoleh skor rata-rata 4,58 dengan persentase 91,6% berkategori “Sangat Layak”. Dapat disimpulkan berdasarkan skor rata-rata penilaian dari ahli media, ahli materi, guru bahasa Indonesia, dan uji coba terhadap siswa dapat disimpulkan bahwa modul pembelajaran menulis puisi berbasis experiential learning untuk siswa kelas VIII SMP sangat layak digunakan secara mandiri sebagai media pembelajaran tambahan bagi siswa. Kata Kunci : Pengembangan, modul, menulis puisi, experiential learning Abstract This research and development aim to develop and produce a learning module to write poetry. In addition, this research and development also aim to describe the process of developing a poetry writing module based on experiential learning for junior high school eighth-grade students, describing the feasibility of the module based on assessment and validation by media experts, material experts, Indonesian teachers, and testing of students. This research includes development research using quantitative descriptive. The results of research and development modules based on research and initial information gathering, planning, product format development, small-scale trials, and final revisions and product improvements obtained an average score of 4.43 with the percentage of 88.6% of the category "Very Worthy" coming from assessment and validation of media experts, material experts, and Indonesian language teachers. The results of the trials on students obtained an average score of 4.58 with a percentage of 91.6% categorized as "Very Worthy". It can be concluded based on the average score of assessment from media experts, material experts, Indonesian language teachers, and trials on students. It can be concluded that poetry writing learning modules based on experiential learning for junior high school students are very suitable to be used independently as additional learning media for students. Abstract: The aim of this study was how student’s need in speaking skill to design learning materials and to know student’s need in speaking skill to design learning materials in Junior high school level. Therefore, the participants of this study were 8 grades of Junior high school on Fathimatul Amin Jakarta. The data were collected through the questionnaire and focused on their need analysis in speaking skill as the basis to develop learning materials. Result of this study shows that from two-part which target needs and student need. From target need the result show most of them likes to study English subject. However, in their speaking English were at a basic level because they assume it was a difficult skill. So, from the need analysis result in the lack in practising speaking skill were low of vocabularies, grammar, afraid on wrong pronunciation, therefore their need to enhance their speaking was the activities of learning English process trough discussion in pairs by daily need topic and add their vocabularies by looking for some words from reading text and get grammar explanation from the teacher before practising speaking skill. Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah bagaimana kebutuhan siswa dalam keterampilan berbicara dalam mendesain materi pembelajaran dan untuk mengetahui kebutuhan siswa dalam keterampilan berbicara dalam merancang materi pembelajaran di tingkat SMP. Oleh karena itu, partisipan penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas 8 SMP di Fathimatul Amin Jakarta. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui kuesioner dan difokuskan pada analisis kebutuhan keterampilan berbicara sebagai dasar untuk mengembangkan materi pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dari dua bagian yaitu kebutuhan sasaran dan kebutuhan siswa. Dari hasil kebutuhan target menunjukkan sebagian besar dari mereka suka belajar bahasa Inggris. Namun, dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris mereka berada pada tingkat dasar karena mereka menganggap itu adalah keterampilan yang sulit. Sehingga dari hasil analisis kebutuhan dalam praktek keterampilan berbicara kurang kosakata, tata bahasa, takut salah pengucapan, oleh karena itu kebutuhan mereka untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara mereka adalah kegiatan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris melalui diskusi berpasangan dengan topik kebutuhan sehari-hari dan menambahkan kosa kata mereka dengan mencari beberapa kata dari teks bacaan dan mendapatkan penjelasan tata bahasa dari guru sebelum mempraktikkan keterampilan berbicara.

This research was motivated by the ability of grade VIII students of junior high school in learning English was still low especially in speaking skill. This study aims to improve English speaking skill of grade VIII students of junior high school by using Modeled Talk. The method used to collect data was the method of test and observation. the instruments used in data collection were test, observation sheet and questionnaire. The results of this study indicated that there was an improvement in students’ speaking skill, in which on the first cycle of this study the average score of the students’ speaking skill was 2.75 with the percentage of 64.2% and on the second cycle the average score of students’ speaking skill was 3.00 with percentage of 70.0% and the category is good. In cycle 1, the percentage of pronunciation was 65.8%, 65.8% for grammar, 68.3% for vocabulary, 60.0% for fluency and 60.8% for comprehension. Furthermore in cycle 2, there was an increase in each aspect such as: pronunciation of 70.8%, grammar of 72.5%, vocabulary of 69.2%, fluency of 67.5% and 70.0% for comprehension aspect. This study continues into cycle 2 because completeness classical of cycle 1 only 64.3% of students who were able the get the value equal to or more than 67 as the minimum criterion value. Furthermore, in cycle 2 occurs an increase for classical completeness that is 89.3%. Thus, it can be suggested that Modeled Talk can be used to improve the English speaking skill of grade VIII junior high school students.
