The difficulty of a teacher to teach a second language to students can be addressed by contrastive analysis, where it is assumed that learning a second language is influenced by the first language acquisition. The purpose of this article is to describe the level of a comparable degree of passive sentences in Indonesian and English to provide benefits as a reference in the teaching of English as a second language. This study was conducted with qualitative methods, the reference library of resources Indonesian and English. Passive Sentences in Indonesian views of the structure using the "di", "ter" or "ke", in English we use "to be + past participle" depends on the time it happened. Context of the sentence must be considered so that the meaning contained in them can be understood. Once analyzed and searched in the matching and comparison of passive sentences in Indonesian and English, the authors have found similarities and differences which can be structurally or pragmatically.

This chapter examines mixed-methods research, which is an approach that involves the integration of quantitative and qualitative methods at one or more stages of a research study. The central idea behind mixed-methods research is that the intentional combination of numeric-based methods with narrative-based methods can best provide answers to some research questions. The ongoing attempts to construct a simple and common conceptualization of mixed-methods provide a good indicator of the status of mixed-methods itself. mixed-methods research has emerged as a formalized methodology well suited to addressing complex problems, and is currently applied throughout the social sciences and beyond. Nowadays, researchers interested in combining quantitative and qualitative methods can benefit from the growing knowledge about the epistemological foundations, essential considerations, and rigorous designs that have been advanced for mixed-methods research.

Nowadays, industries face very strong challenges because of the high competitiveness between them. In fact, they are required to offer products with high quality and minimum cost in the minimum time. Since most of the characteristics and costs of the product and its manufacturing process are fixed in the design phase, this paper is focused on this strategic phase. Indeed, a new integrated product design approach is presented. It considers at the same time design requirements, materials characteristics, manufacturing parameters and the assembly process specifications. The developed approach is quantitative. Actually, the decision making is based on all its steps on objective and subjective indicators. To validate the integrated approach, a case study on the Schrader Robot is developed. This application allows to choose the most appropriate materials, manufacturing processes and assembly solution of its different components.

AbstractDesign is a complex problem-solving activity that transforms design restrictions and requirements into a set of constraints and explores the feasible solutions to satisfy those constraints. However, design solutions generated by traditional modeling approaches are hardly to deal with such constraints, particularly for the exploration of the possible design solution space to enhance the quality of the design outputs and confront the evolving design requirements. In this regard, the Generative Design Approach (GDA) is considered as an efficient method to explore a large design solution space by transforming the design problem into a configuration problem. Fundamentally, GDA explores and stores all the necessary knowledge through a design skeleton and a set of design elements. Thus, design solution space is easily explored by configuring variable design elements via iterative design processes. Further, the output model is not only a design solution but also a design concept that designers could manipulate to explore unconsidered design configurations. Finally, a crank creation as a running example confirmed that GDA provides concrete aids to enhance the diversity of design solutions.

The author addresses the potential of a multiple-methods approach in human geography, an approach to social research which has received little explicit attention in the geographical literature to date. The relationship between epistemology and methodology is outlined, and the similarities and differences between quantitative and qualitative methods are described. Some problems surrounding subjectivity and objectivity in social research are also discussed. In addition, the relationship between methods and to whom the research is communicated is considered. It is hoped that the paper will stimulate future discussion both of the theoretical implications and of the practical use of a mixed-methods approach in human geography.

A comparative analysis has been carried out in order to study the similarities and differences in the use and management of space and time by students, based on their gender. The study analyses the data records generated by students from three different degree courses in two universities, throughout four academic years. The methodology includes exploratory statistical analysis and learning analytics for the detection of spatial, temporal and behavioural patterns. Results show a consistent convergence in most cases, although they also show marginal behavioral trends, both for the days of the week, the hours of the day, and for the different contents of the virtual campuses. This is more evident in its spatial aspect, which highlights some clear differences in the processes of distribution and concentration of the events under study: at least in this case, women do not act in the same way as men. Ultimately, the study proposes new forms of synergy between educational work and the application of the Social Sciences’ disciplinary contents thus strengthening the transfer of knowledge from specific didactics on both educational curriculum and teacher training.
