Pemahaman tentang sistem hidrogeologi dan wilayah tangkapan air dari sebuah mata air sangatlah penting. Hal ini untuk membantu pengelolaan yang menjaga kelestariannya. Mataair Beton merupakan salah satu mataair yang memiliki peranan yang sangat penting di wilayah Ponjong, Kabupaten Gunungkidul. Suplai air dari mataair ini digunakan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan air bersih, irigasi persawahan dan perikanan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui konektivitas dan karakterisasi lorong di sistem hidrogeologi Mataair Beton. Metode yang digunakan adalah tracer test dengan menggunakan fluorescent dyes. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa Ponor Seropan memiliki konektivitas dengan Mataair Beton, dan memiliki karakteristik lorong berupa single conduit. Perkembangan lorong yang lanjut menunjukkan bahwa sistem hidrogeologi di lokasi kajian sangat dipengaruhi oleh imbuhan airtanah dari sistem alogenik yang berhulu di wilayah non-karst dan memiliki kerentanan terhadap pencemaran airtanah yang tinggi.Kata Kunci: Karst, Sungai Alogenik, Kawasan Karst Gunung Sewu, Uji Perunutan, Mataair BetonAn understanding of the hydrogeological system and catchment area of spring is very important. This is to help manage that maintains its sustainability. Beton Resurgence is one of the springs that have a very important role in the Ponjong area, Gunungkidul Regency. Water supply from the spring is used to supply clean water, irrigated rice fields, and fisheries. This study aims to determine the connectivity and characterization of Passage in the Beton hydrogeological system. The method used is a tracer test using fluorescent dyes. The results of the analysis of breaktrough curve indicate that Seropan Sinking Stream has connectivity with Beton resurgence, and has passage characteristics in the form of a single conduit. The further development of the passage shows that the hydrogeological system is strongly influenced by groundwater recharge originating from an allogenic system that originates in non-karst areas and has a high groundwater vulnerability to pollution. Keywords: Karst, Allogenic River, Gunungsewu Karst Area, Tracer Test, Beton Resurgence

Abstract The karst area on Rote Island dominates more than 60% of the Island. The land surface conditions in karst areas are generally dry, while below the subsurface is the potential for abundant water resources. This study aims to assess groundwater vulnerability using the APLIS (Altitude, Pendiete/Slope, Lithology, Infiltration, and Soils) method that will integrate with Geographic Information System (GIS) technique. The parameters used are elevation, slope, lithology, infiltration zone, and soil type. Slope and elevation are obtained from DEM maps, the soil is obtained from soil type maps, while lithology and infiltration zone are obtained from geological maps. The lithology and the infiltration zone in APLIS method analysis have a high role in determining the level of groundwater vulnerability. The groundwater vulnerability in Rote Island was divided into four classes: very low in the Northeast, low in the South, moderate in the East and North, and high in the East and West part of the Island. It explains that a high level of groundwater vulnerability in Rote Island needs to be used as a groundwater protection zone.

The definition of a karst drainage basin in the aquifer of the karst area is an absolute thing to do as a water resource management unit. This research aimed to characterize the hydrogeology of the Gunungsewu Karst Area in the upper reach of the Gremeng Karst Drainage Basin. For this purpose, it was divided into three stages, namely geological survey, speleological survey, and artificial tracer test. The results indicate that the area observed lies in two or more geological formations: Semilir Formation, composed of sandstone and tuff from the ancient volcano Wonodadi eruptions, and Wonosari Formation, in which carbonate rocks consisting of massive coral limestone and bedded chalky limestone predominate. In volcanic rocks, the surface rivers have developed into allogenic streams flowing from underlying beds exposed updip. The contact between the two different formations results in the formation of ponors and springs. The artificial tracer test revealed two underground river systems with single conduits controlled by the allogenic rivers and large slope gradients in the study area.

In parallel to medical treatment of ovarian cancer, methods for the early detection of cancer tumors are being sought. In this contribution, the use of non-invasive static (SLS) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) for the characterization of extracellular nanoparticles (ENPs) in body fluids of advanced serous ovarian cancer (OC) and benign gynecological pathology (BP) patients is demonstrated and critically evaluated. Samples of plasma and ascites (OC patients) or plasma, peritoneal fluid, and peritoneal washing (BP patients) were analyzed. The hydrodynamic radius (Rh) and the radius of gyration (Rg) of ENPs were calculated from the angular dependency of LS intensity for two ENP subpopulations. Rh and Rg of the predominant ENP population of OC patients were in the range 20–30 nm (diameter 40–60 nm). In thawed samples, larger particles (Rh mostly above 100 nm) were detected as well. The shape parameter ρ of both particle populations was around 1, which is typical for spherical particles with mass concentrated on the rim, as in vesicles. The Rh and Rg of ENPs in BP patients were larger than in OC patients, with ρ ≈ 1.1–2, implying a more elongated/distorted shape. These results show that SLS and DLS are promising methods for the analysis of morphological features of ENPs and have the potential to discriminate between OC and BP patients. However, further development of the methodology is required.

The original fossil record of Allosorex stenodus Fejfar, 1966 from Ivanovce (late Ruscinian, MN 15b) is redescribed and supplemented by the description of so far unpublished fossil remains, including upper dentition (P4 and M3) and a humerus fragment as well as the enamel microstructure analysis of m2. Based on the critical evaluation of other fossil remains from sites in Romania, Hungary, and France, the Ivanovce fossils are so far the only unquestionable recorded finds of A. stenodus in Europe, which can be considered as a local early Pliocene (MN 15) endemic species. Its occurrence is connected with the forested karst area along a broad valley of “pre-Váh” River, ecologically and climatically resembling the environment of modern karst areas in south-eastern Asia. Based on enamel microstructure analysis and unique mandible and dentition morphological characters, a separate taxonomical status of the species is also discussed.

The inter-subspecific crossing between indica and japonica subspecies in rice have been utilized to improve yield potential in temperate rice. In this study, a comparative study of the genomic regions in the eight high yielding varieties (HYVs) was conducted with those of the four non-HYV varieties. NGS mapping on the Nipponbare reference genome identified a total of 14 common genomic regions of japonica-originated alleles. Interestingly, the HYVs shared the japonica-originated genomic regions on the nine chromosomes, although they were developed from different breeding programs. A panel of 94 varieties was classified into four varietal groups with the 39 SNP markers from 39 genes residing the japonica-originated genomic regions and 16 additional trait-specific SNPs. As expected, the japonica originated genomic regions were present only in JAP and HYV groups with exceptions for Chr4-1 and Chr4-2. The Wx gene located within Chr6-1 was present in HYV and JAP variety groups, while the yield-related genes were conserved as indica alleles in HYVs. The japonica-originated genomic regions and alleles shared by HYVs can be employed in molecular breeding programs for further development of HYVs in rice.

The present study highlights the importance of geological, hydrogeological, and hydrogeochemical characterization of a karst aquifer in building a conceptual model of the system. The karst system of Krania–Elassona in central Greece was chosen for this application. Hydrogeological research included geological mapping and hydrogeological analysis. Additionally, hydrochemical analysis of water samples was performed in boreholes, rivers, and the system’s main spring. The Krania–Elassona aquifer consists of three horizons of marbles and is characterized by mature karstification. The karst aquifer is characterized by allogenic recharge mainly from the River Deskatis that accounts for up to 92% of the total flow. Groundwater and spring water are generally characterized as good quality and are suitable for irrigation and domestic use. The water type of the spring water is classified as Mg-HCO3. The application of a SARIMA (Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average Model) model verified the conceptual model and successfully simulated spring discharge for a two-year period. The results of this study highlight the importance of basic hydrogeological research and the initial conceptualization of karst systems in reliably assessing groundwater vulnerability and modeling.

An in-depth understanding of the reaction mechanism is required for the further development of Mo-based catalysts for biobased feedstocks. However, fundamental studies of industrial catalysts are challenging, and simplified systems are often used without direct comparison to their industrial counterparts. Here, we report on size-selected bimetallic NiMo nanoparticles as a candidate for a model catalyst that is directly compared to the industrial system to evaluate their industrial relevance. Both the nanoparticles and industrial supported NiMo catalysts were characterized using surface- and bulk-sensitive techniques. We found that the active Ni and Mo metals in the industrial catalyst are well dispersed and well mixed on the support, and that the interaction between Ni and Mo promotes the reduction of the Mo oxide. We successfully produced 25 nm NiMo alloyed nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution. Characterization of the nanoparticles showed that they have a metallic core with a native oxide shell with a high potential for use as a model system for fundamental studies of hydrotreating catalysts for biobased feedstocks.

Research on weathered crusts on carbonate rock is essential for paleoenvironmental studies in karst areas. Terra rossa, widely distributed in tropical karst areas, has not been studied in terms of its material sources and geochemistry. Two typical terra rossa profiles on dolomite (SC profile located at Sang Cai, Hoa Binh province) and limestone (TG profile located at Tong Gia, Lao Cai province) in Northern Vietnam were selected to examine the geochemical characteristics and the evolutionary processes of rare earth elements (REEs). Chondrite and bedrock normalized patterns indicated that these two profiles are in situ weathering crusts, meaning they are the residual material remaining after chemical weathering of the lower carbonate rocks. The average value of total REE in the SC profile is 381.19 ppm, which is 30 times higher than the bedrock. In the TG profile, the value is 386.26 ppm, 13 times higher than the bedrock. Compared with the profiles in nearby subtropical areas in Southeast China, the REE enrichment coefficients of terra rossa in Northern Vietnam are much higher. The REE depletion was also different between the SC and TG profiles. The light and heavy REE fractionations in the SC profile are higher than in the TG profile. Paleoclimate inversion analysis shows that the SC profile experienced a stable oxidation condition, whereas the TG profile was subjected to several reducing environments since a weathering crust formed.
