This study was aimed to discover the types of processes used and how they influence the author’s writing style in Oscar Wilde’s short story entitled “The Happy Prince”. The methodology used in this study was descriptive-qualitative so the analysis was presented in the form of words, phrases, sentences, and utterances. The study focused on discourse analysis employing ideational function approach, which analyzed the short story from the point of view of linguistics especially Transitivity, a theory developed by M. A. K. Halliday. As a result, there were seven types of processes found in the story namely material, mental, behavioral, verbal, relational, existential, and meteorological. The results of the study showed that material process was the most frequently used process (37%) conducted by the author. Yet, the six others were each employed for about 1% - 25%. This indicated that the use of the type of process influenced the writing style of the author in constructing the story where the different process emphasized different portrayal. The use of material process as the most dominant process might reflect the author’s eagerness to do what he cannot do in his real life. However, it was also supported by the author’s previous career and achievement as a journalist, editor, and critic before he wrote the story. Ultimately, the researcher found that Oscar Wilde’s writing style incorporates the vivid descriptions, aesthetic appearance, conversational style, repetitive pattern, simple and clear language.   Keywords: Oscar Wilde; Writing Style; Discourse Analysis; Ideational Meaning; Transitivity

The purpose of this study is to identify the linguistic choices by investigating transitivity system of process types, participants, and circumtantial elements that characterize EFL student’s writing in memoirs. The analysis in this study is based on Halliday and Matthiessen’s (2004) theory of ideational metafunction. This research used descriptive method. The data consist of 950 clauses that were obtained from 15 texts of memoir written by English Department student of State University of Padang in West Sumatera. The finding shows the students’ texts consist of processes, participants and circumstantial elements which fulfill the linguistic features in carrying meaning. This qualitative research is about material process and technique of translation in Donald Trump’s inauguration speech text. The data source is Donald Trump’s inauguration speech text and the research data are in the form of clauses that contain material processes in inauguration speech of Donald Trump. The researcher used the theory proposed by Spradley (1998) in analyzing the data. The research was conducted by accomodating two theories: the theory of material process proposed by Halliday (2004) and the theory of translation techniques proposed by Molina and Albir (2002). The result of this study shows that there were 119 data found in inauguration speech of Donald Trump that are relevant with the research problem. and the researcher found eleven generalization,  particularization, linguistic compression, linguistic amplification, modulation, compensation, reduction, literal translation, and transposition. The use of literal translation technique is dominant than other techniques in this research. The researcher found 94 data that contains literal translation technique in the research findings where type of doing 67 and happening 27.  Besides, the less of translation techniques used are borrowing, reduction, and linguistic amplification with one data. Literal technique is the most frequent because  this technique does not distort meanings in the source language; thus, the meanings can be conveyed into the readers in target language well. The researcher expects the next researchers to do analysis on translation with other object of research.

This study discusses the accessibility of university education in the four public universities in Yogyakarta; Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI), University of Gajah Mada (UGM),Yogyakarta State University (UNY), and State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga. Upto now, the disability groups have not got an equal access and the opportunity in a higher education. There are only a few students with disabilities that are accepted in Universities in Indonesia, because of physical limitations that would interfere the teaching-learning process in their classrooms. The research findings showed that the education systems in the UGM, Yogyakarta State University, and the ISI have a system of “integration”, while at UIN has led to the inclusion system, that is “accommodative” and has the ability to service for persons with disabilities.

Therefore, we propose to: i) record the definitions of ecology present in the textbooks used at the State University of Ceara, the Faculty of Education of Itapipoca UECE/FACEDI and at the primary schools of Itapipoca-Ceara and ii) access the representations of the term Shared Ecology by the FACEDI Biology students who have already studied Ecology and those who have not yet studied them. With a descriptive quantitative-qualitative approach, we analyzed 35 books, 15 university students and 20 books of basic education. To verify which concepts are understood by the licensees we use a questionnaire, answered by 97 university students and analyzed by the content analysis method. We note that most of the books (27) contained only Haeckel's definition and used the term Ecology as synonymous with Environmental Sciences; Only seven books had the two definitions and only one contains only Krebs. These data demonstrate that the definition of Krebs is less widespread than that of Haeckel, and this adds to a conceptual limitation when considering Ecology as synonymous with Environmental Sciences, although both have a different scope. We also note that the perceptions of Ecology shared by students are closer to Haeckel's definition. We conclude that the conceptual inconsistency widely diffused in textbooks is also shared by the students, especially those who have not yet studied the subjects of Ecology. Keywords: Teaching Ecology.
