In society, there is a perception of young teachers as the future of the Russian education system who need constant patronage due to their lack of professional experience and skill. However, young teachers present not only a professional resource for the future of Russian education but also a social group with its own interests and values that is able to make a significant contribution to the development of general education in the present. Study proposes a multidimensional methodological construct of the sociological study of the professional identity of young teachers in Russian society developed within the “soft conception” of identity with consideration of both Russian and foreign theoretical and methodological experience. The internal and external factors for the formation of young teachers’ professional identity, as well as the structure, functions, and the real and ideal types of this identity are identified. The detection of tendencies in the development of real professional identity allows identifying the direction of the transformation of young teachers’ professional identity in Russian society via the comparison with ideal types.

The current study focuses on the concept of professional identity in the school counseling profession, its definition and measurement. According to the definition in this study, the concept of “professional identity” is divided in two: personal professional identity, which is the practitioner’s sense of belonging to and solidarity with the profession, and group professional identity, which includes the features attributed to the profession, both by those who belong to it and by those who do not practice it, and makes it possible to discern between professions. The school counseling profession, occupied mainly by women, is contending with a lack of clarity regarding its role definition, role boundaries, and demands. Therefore, despite the change in the status of the profession in recent years, various issues impede the group professional identity of school counseling and the personal profession identity of its practitioners. This study is the first to examine the professional identity of school counselors on two levels: personal and group, among school counselors in Israel. The study included 174 school counselors who completed two professional identity scales constructed for the purpose of the study. Each scale underwent factor analysis, and a significant association was found between the two scales and the factors they comprised. The research findings indicate that the personal professional identity of school counselors is affected by their group professional identity, and vice versa. The research findings indicate the need to distinguish in future studies between personal and group professional identity, both in the school counseling profession and in other professions, particularly in a world characterized by professional mobility where current professions will become irrelevant while others will be in demand and there may be a need to define the personal and group professional identity of workers.

The use of the competence approach in education, the internationalization of the educational environment requires an understanding of the students' attitude to the formed competencies, the peculiarities of the formation of professional identity in the process of study and the factors influencing this. All these phenomena are directly related to the educational motivation of future specialists. The paper examines the ideas of undergraduate students of different courses from Russia and China in the field of personnel management about the importance and degree of formation of their general professional competencies in accordance with the Federal State Educational Standard for Higher Education, and examines the features of professional identity. Educators are increasingly urged to improve quality control mechanisms. Improving quality involves more than simply increasing the variety of options for assessments. It calls for a new model of curriculum design focused on the formation of professional competencies students will need in the workplace along with the integration of theory-based learning activities and assessments supported by instructional technologies. This chapter will present a framework that educators can use to guide the integration of learning activities, assessments, and instructional technologies in a manner that guides students in the development of professional competencies for success in the workplace and also provides a stream of quality control data that can be used to measure both educational and organizational effectiveness.
