The purpose of this paper is to review the two attributes, usability and architectural, in order to develop a usability brief for shopping mall asset enhancement initiative (AEI) project. An exploratory sequential mixed method approach is undertaken, with the initial phase, a qualitative study using secondary data and focus group with the facility management team. The output from the qualitative phase is used to prepare a survey of 89 items. A pilot study of 15 participants is carried out to validate reliability of the items using SPSS. The questionnaire items are found to be reliable; hence, the survey can be used as a tool to gauge a larger sample. This paper presents an overview of a doctoral research by the main author and it provides the initial concepts for the undertaking of the research study.

This paper investigates the issue of the global financial crisis and its impacts on philanthropy and civil society organisations (CSOs) in Malaysia. CSOs are popularly known as non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Malaysia. Financial crisis has caused NGOs in many countries to receive less funding. This situation may threaten and discourage voluntary works. Undoubtedly, these beneficial contributions from the NGOs are needful services to the society. This paper examines the impact of financial crisis through the lens of NGOs and philanthropy activities in Malaysia. It utilises primary and secondary data, employs a mixed method approach, and uses quantitative and qualitative data. While there are many influencing factors in this development, this paper presents several significant aspects in the Malaysian context, including the style and nature of giving, culture, religion, and political pressure. This study attempts to seek potential solutions, pathways and possible approaches beneficial to NGOs and philanthropy activities for their sustainability in facing the financial crisis and its consequences. Experiences and lessons learnt in Malaysia may well be useful and applicable to some extent in other countries.

This article presents a method for costume design, where empathy and embodiment are used as methodological choices by the designer in the character-creation process. In creating references for the sketching process, costume designers combine photos in which they portray themselves as the character that they imagine. These role-selfies, taken with a handheld tablet, work as starting points for the sketching procedure. The material for the present study is collected from MA costume design students who participated in digital character-creation courses at Aalto University, in Helsinki, Finland, and is a part of doctoral research by the author. The data are collected through a mixed-method approach and is organized as a case study investigating the experiences of using the body as a source for costume design. The research question in this study is as follows: does an awareness of one’s own body facilitate the sketching process? The initial results show that the research participants consider the method useful because it enables them to experience a stronger bodily connection with the digital medium, the imagined design and the emerging character in the costume sketching process. Hence, the findings of this study can be used to develop design and teaching practices not only in the field of costume design but also in other design processes involving character creation.

This paper aims to analyse the reasons of strained civil-military relations between the Army under General Pervaiz Musharraf as Chief of Army Staff and the civilian government under the premiership of Nawaz Sharif. A mixed method approach has been adopted for collection of primary and secondary data for this descriptive, theoretical, and qualitative study. The analysis shows that the relations between the two institutions i.e., the civilian government and the military were deteriorated due to an ill-fated Kargil war launched by the then Army Chief solely on his own decision. The war under the guise of Kashmiri mujahedeen movement became an unpleasant event for Pakistan in the international community. The situation compelled the elected government to declare withdrawal of the para-military forces unilaterally thus causing further damages in terms of human and material losses. The military, opposition parties and other groups in the country blamed the civilian government for this failure. Therefore, the post Kargil war developments became a major source of contention between civil and military leadership. The events and reasons leading to the removal of Army Chief, dismissal of elected government and dissolution of national and provincial assemblies have been critically analysed in this study.

The paper focuses on the influence of utilitarian and hedonic factors on the buying behaviour of the Gen Y consumers while purchasing smartphones. The researcher has followed a mixed method approach for the research with a descriptive research design. Primary data was collected through a survey that was conducted with 450 participants which consisted of teenagers and adults aged between 16-30 years. This collected data was then quantified using mathematical tools to come to a conclusion. Secondary data was collected from online published research articles and convenience. The influence of both these factors have a different sense of impact on every individual in the buying process, but post analysis, utilitarian factors gained primacy over hedonic factors.

The research study aimed to deliver a pedagogical perspective on the acquisition of Spanish writing and speaking skills. A research study prospect and methodological schemes in association with the objective of the study has been charted. The study has used the mixed method approach for the collection of data and its analysis. The outcome revealed that the acquisition of the Spanish language writing and speaking skills could be enhanced, empowered and partially retained as a result of using an array of approaches based on delivering phrases and sentence constructions into Spanish written and spoken dialogues and paragraph contexts. Employing a mixed method approach, this exploratory research study provides an account of the educational affordances derived from the use of a Facebook group for out-of-class, off-campus learning by undergraduate students enrolled at a private university in Hong Kong. Both quantitative and qualitative results indicate that social networking sites such as Facebook can indeed be exploited to generate various educational affordances favorable to off-campus informal learning and course management activities in the context of higher education in Hong Kong.

Technology acceptance is about how people accept andadopt some technology to use. The primary target ofmany technology acceptance studies is to examine how toencourage usage and also analyze what interruptsacceptance and usage of technologies. Using the mixedmethod approach, the quantitative phase shows that, theperceived usefulness (PE) is significant with p-value(.023) and the perceived ease of use (EE) is significantwith p-value (.001). These results shows that the intentionto accept and use ICT by the academic staff is a functionof various concepts including the understanding that ICTis useful and it is not difficult to use. However thequalitative phase shows that it is true that theacademicians intent to use ICT but the conditions andenvironment are not encouraging, classrooms are poorlydesigned. No regular power supply, no ICT facilities onground and poor internet connectivity. The mixed methodapproach has given the true picture of the acceptance andusage of ICT in Nigerian public university. Thequantitative phase shows the constructs that havesignificant influence on acceptance and use of ICT, whilethe qualitative phase interprets the in-depth meaning ofthe statistical results and the environmental challengesthat most be tackled to realize the full vision.
