The article presents the results of the application of sambo techniques to the physical health of student youth in higher education institutions. During the research the following methods were used: analysis and use of data on scientific and methodological literature; pedagogical observation; anthropometry and physiometry; pedagogical experiment and methods that used statistics. The study of body mass index, life index, power index, Robinson index, the time of recovery of heart rate to baseline after 20 squats in 30 sec and, in fact, the level of physical health by the sum of points according to the method proposed by G.L. Apanasenko during the first and second stages (I-II courses of study) showed that one of the ways to improve the level of physical health of student youth is to introduce sambo sports educational classes into the curriculum. This is manifested at the end of the experiment that there was the decrease in number of experimental group (EG) of students with low and below average physical health: in the group of male students by 60%, in the group of female – 47, 4%. The number of male EG students with average and higher than average levels of physical health increased from 16.0 to 76.0%, female students - from 19.1 to 81.5%, which ensured that students were engaged in systematic physical exercises that allowed to improve their level of fitness, physical development, functional state and physical health.

The purpose of the paper is to identify the dominant motives for physical education among students of higher education institutions of the I-II accreditation levels at different stages of studying. Materials and methods. The study involved first-year (n=30), second-year (n=30), and third-year (n=30) female students of the College of the National Pharmaceutical University (Kharkiv) who attend physical education classes in the main group. The paper used general scientific methods of theoretical level (analysis, synthesis, generalization, induction, deduction), as well as general scientific methods of empirical level (observation, questioning, ranking). The study materials were processed by the IBM SPSS 23 statistical analysis software. The following parameters were calculated: the Kruskal — Wallis test for independent samples, the Pearson χ2 criterion, the Pearson correlation coefficients, and the Kendall’s Tau-b. Results. The analysis of the data obtained shows that most female students lead sedentary lifestyles. Only 13.3% of the first- and second-year students and 16.7% of the third-year students participate in physical activity outside of curriculum time every day; at least three times a week – 53.4% of the first- and third-year students, and 40% of the second-year students; several times a month – 26.6% of the first-year students, 33.4% of the second-year students, and 20% of the third-year students; no physical activity at all – 6.7% of the girls of the first year, 13.3% – of the second year, and 10% – of the third year of study. The most significant motives for physical education among the college female students are to improve body shapes, to improve health, to lose weight, and to foster one’s moral and volitional qualities. Conclusions. The dominant motive for physical education among female students of higher education institutions of the I-II accreditation levels regardless of the year of study are to improve body shapes, to improve health, to lose weight.

The article investigates the influence of health and recreational physical activity on terminal and instrumental values of higher education institutions students. The following research methods are used, including theoretical analysis of professional scientific and methodological resources by domestic and foreign authors, sociological, psychological and diagnostic, pedagogical research methods, methods of mathematical statistics. To determine the initial level of healthy lifestyle attitudes formation among students M. Rokych’s method of “Value Orientations” has been used. The research has been conducted on the basis of Kyiv National Linguistic University, National Pedagogical University named after M. P. Drahomanov. The study has involved 48 students (23 boys and 25 girls), who were part of the experimental (EG) and control (CG) groups (total of 24 people). The program of health-improving classes for students of higher education institutions has presupposed the use of various means of health-improving and recreational physical activities twice a week. The duration of classes was one and a half hours. Those that are most in demand among student youth were chosen as priorities. Among the young men these were strength exercises, elements of sport games and recreational games. Among the girls they included health fitness exercises. We have confirmed the feasibility and necessity of using innovative means of physical activity and forms of extracurricular activities in development of such programs that significantly increase the motivation of young people to participate in such programs. In the course of the research we have studied the hierarchy of terminal and instrumental values among young men and women who studied in higher educational institutions. The application of the developed program contributed to the students' awareness of “health” category value. Among EG students such instrumental values as education (depth of knowledge, high general culture), self- control (restraint, self-discipline) and rationalism (ability to think wisely and logically, to make thoughtful, rational decisions) have transferred to the first place. The obtained results prove that there are positive changes in the system of students’ terminal and instrumental values under the influence of health and recreational motor activity.

Physical Recreation of Students of Selected Warsaw Non-Public Higher Education Institutions - Preferences and MotivationsThe creation of conditions within the teaching and educational system of higher education institutions that shape up rational, pro-health free-time behaviours is one of the key goals of the studies discussed in this paper. The starting point for every planned educational process is to investigate the present state of affairs, i.e. to perform a diagnosis. This paper presents the diagnosis results which indicate, based on the empirical research findings, the forms of leisure activities most often pursued and the motivations behind them. The method we used in our research was a diagnosis survey which covered 1,119 students. The dominant leisure-time activities preferred by the students we surveyed were watching TV and meeting friends. The third most popular student leisure activity was in the case of men spending time in front of a computer and in the case of the women walking. Nearly half of the female students and a little more than half of the male students practise their recreational activities outside the official school physical education classes. The men practise a little more often than the women. Football, cycling and swimming are the most popular sports among the men. The women prefer bicycle riding, gymnastic exercises, aerobics and volleyball. Both the male and female students gave as their first two most important motives for recreational physical activities their health and fitness aspects. The third motive varies, depending on sex. The female students appreciate rest and relaxation which they achieve through recreational physical activities. The men highlight the value of being in touch with nature. Although the students from the surveyed group say they do not engage in physical activity in their free time in any planned way, nearly 50% of them do so on a regular basis.

The problem of organizing physical education in of higher education institutions has become sharp in recent years. New methods and forms of teaching physical education are introduced and tested. The organization of the pedagogical process adapts the modern requirements of society to specialists, however, not all innovations can be implemented for a number of objective reasons, one of which is the deterioration of the health of students. One of the tasks of higher education is to provide conditions for students to form a reasonable attitude to their on health, which implies understanding of the need and importance of physical education and sports for its preservation and support. The article presents the attitude of students to the introduction of elective courses in physical education and indicators of physical fitness of the second-year students of the SGUPS.

The concept of university sports in Serbia is still dominantly based on occasional sports manifestations (competitions) for students. Mostly in the shape of single ad-hoc tournaments in different areas of sport or as competitions of student athletes within the University sports association. The current position of a majority of student population in terms of university sports in Serbia can be characterized as passive (spectators), while direct participants, who are recruited from the field of active competitive sports, have this only as an “additional” obligation within the sport they already practice in “their” sport clubs. Therefore, students’ perception of the role of sports/physical activity at university represents a very important determinant for creating adequate (new) program contents, concepts and for the implementation of physical education in higher education institutions in Serbia. The goal of this research, which is realised as an empirical non-experimental study, is to identify the attitude and opinion of students about the role of sport and organized physical exercising at university. The sample involved 227 students at the University of Novi Sad and Educons University from Sremska Kamenica. Survey was used as the basic research technique, and the instrument was constructed as a questionnaire whose basic semantic structure was based on similar instruments used in a few earlier studies. The results showed that the currently trend indicates a drop in regular practice of sport after enrolment in faculty, but youth positively perceive the role of sports at higher education institutions, clearly recognizing its importance in social interaction. Therefore, pedagogical implications of this research can certainly dominantly relate to management structures of higher education institutions in shape of a clear message about the necessity to introduce more intense education of all education stakeholders about the values and importance of physical activity (physical exercising) of youth. In that context, they also encourage changes in overall education policy in Serbia.

AbstractResearch courses are part of many higher education curricula. However, students’ attitudes towards statistics and research courses tend to be negative. One way to measure students’ attitude is with the Revised-Attitudes Towards Research scale (R-ATR). The current study examined: (1) the internal reliability of the R-ATR, (2) the attitude of Dutch second-year architecture students towards research courses, and (3) whether attitude is related to age and gender. It was found that the R-ATR has good internal reliability and that Dutch second-year architecture students’ attitude towards research courses is reasonably favorable. Students generally acknowledge the usefulness of research courses and do not feel anxious, but find them stressful and difficult to some extent and do not enjoy them. Further analyses showed three types of students: relaxed students, virtuous students and worried students, who each require a different approach to improving their attitude towards research courses. No relationship emerged between attitude and age or gender, but female students considered research courses somewhat more useful. Providing a research-friendly, enjoyable, and supportive environment might improve students’ attitude towards research courses.

The article reveals modern approaches to optimizing motor activity of student youth. The importance of motor activity in the life of students, its impact on physical development, physical fitness, psycho-emotional state of those involved is substantiated. The analysis of scientific publications devoted to the problem of optimization of motor activity, youth health and modeling of motor modes of students of higher education institutions is carried out. The problem of lack of motor activity in young people has been identified, which requires the search for new scientific approaches and effective solutions. It is determined that one of the most effective ways to optimize physical activity is the introduction of modern information and communication technologies in the process of physical education of higher education institutions. Today, cardiovascular diseases, which are associated with insufficient physical activity, are becoming more common. And in a pandemic, lockdown, distance learning, there is a rapid decline in physical activity, which negatively affects not only the physical fitness of young people, but can also lead to diseases such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, angina and myocardial infarction, and so on. Their spread in our time is not accidental, it is directly related to changes in the motor regime of the majority of the population, due to modern living conditions: the rapid pace of technology, the growth of information, increasing mental stress.
