Japanese yew (Podocarpus macrophyllus ‘Maki’) and Wheeler's Dwarf pittosporum (Pittosporum tobira ‘Wheeler's Dwarf’) grown outdoors under 3 production light levels and shade-grown fatsia (Fatsia japonica), dwarf gardenia (Gardenia jasminoides ‘Radicans’), variegated pittosporum (Pittosporum tobira ‘Variegata’), leatherleaf mahonia (Mahonia bealei), and Chinese mahonia (Mahonia fortunei) adapted well to interior conditions following production. Quality of asiatic jasmine (Trachelospermum asiaticum), Okinawan holly (Ilex dimorphophylla), and dwarf Japanese euonymus (Euonymus japonica ‘Microphylla’) grown under the 3 production light levels and all species grown in full sun, except the Japanese yew and Wheeler's Dwarf pittosporum, were judged unacceptable.

Gas-phase etching and optical lithography were employed for the fabrication of a silicon nanoribbon chip (Si-NR chip). The quality of the so-fabricated silicon nanoribbons (Si-NRs) was monitored by optical Raman scattering spectroscopy. It was demonstrated that the structures of the Si-NRs were virtually defect-free, meaning they could be used for highly sensitive detection of biological macromolecules. The Si-NR chips were then used for the highly sensitive nanoelectronics detection of DNA oligonucleotides (oDNAs), which represent synthetic analogs of 106a-5p microRNA (miR-106a-5p), associated with the development of autism spectrum disorders in children. The specificity of the analysis was attained by the sensitization of the Si-NR chip sur-face by covalent immobilization of oDNA probes, whose nucleotide sequence was complementary to the known sequence of miR-106a-5p. The use of the Si-NR chip was demonstrated to al-low for the rapid label-free real-time detection of oDNA at ultra-low (~10−17 M) concentrations.

Nanotechnology is a promising tool that has opened the doors of improvement to the quality of human’s lives through its potential in numerous technological aspects. Green chemistry of nanoscale materials (1–100 nm) is as an effective and sustainable strategy to manufacture homogeneous nanoparticles (NPs) with unique properties, thus making the synthesis of green NPs, especially metal nanoparticles (MNPs), the scientist’s core theme. Researchers have tested different organisms to manufacture MNPs and the results of experiments confirmed that plants tend to be the ideal candidate amongst all entities and are suitable to synthesize a wide variety of MNPs. Natural and cultivated Eucalyptus forests are among woody plants used for landscape beautification and as forest products. The present review has been written to reflect the efficacious role of Eucalyptus in the synthesis of MNPs. To better understand this, the route of extracting MNPs from plants, in general, and Eucalyptus, in particular, are discussed. Furthermore, the crucial factors influencing the process of MNP synthesis from Eucalyptus as well as their characterization and recent applications are highlighted. Information gathered in this review is useful to build a basis for new prospective research ideas on how to exploit this woody species in the production of MNPs. Nevertheless, there is a necessity to feed the scientific field with further investigations on wider applications of Eucalyptus-derived MNPs.

Abstract Background Weather change in high-altitude areas subjects mature tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) to cold stress, which damages tobacco leaf yield and quality. A brupt diurnal temperature differences (the daily temperature dropping more than 20 °C) along with rainfall in tobacco-growing areas at an altitude above 2450 m, caused cold stress to field-grown tobacco. Results After the flue-cured tobacco suffered cold stress in the field, the surface color of tobacco leaves changed and obvious large browning areas were appeared, and the curing availability was extremely poor. Further research found the quality of fresh tobacco leaves, the content of key chemical components, and the production quality were greatly reduced by cold stress. We hypothesize that cold stress in high altitude environments destroyed the antioxidant enzyme system of mature flue-cured tobacco. Therefore, the quality of fresh tobacco leaves, the content of key chemical components, and the production quality were greatly reduced by cold stress. Conclusion This study confirmed that cold stress in high-altitude tobacco areas was the main reason for the browning of tobacco leaves during the tobacco curing process. This adverse environment seriously damaged the quality of tobacco leaves, but can be mitigated by pay attention to the weather forecast and pick tobacco leaves in advance.

Despite the importance of the nutrients, mainly nitrogen, in the formation and chemical composition of the seeds, little research has been done to verify the relationship between the nutrients supplied to the plants and the quality of the seeds produced. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of nitrogen doses and splitting on yield, quality and macronutrients content in zucchini seeds. Two experiments (crop 2014 and crop 2015) were installed, with thirteen treatments in the factorial scheme 4x3+1, with four nitrogen doses in top dressing (62.5; 125.0; 187.5; 250.0 kg ha-1), three splitting (1/6+1/3+1/2; 1/4+1/2+1/4; 1/3+1/3+1/3 of total dose in each split), and one treatment without N fertilization in top dressing (dose 0), with four replications. Seed production and quality and macronutrient content in seeds were evaluated. There wasn’t significant effect on number of fruits and seeds produced per plant. However, in crop 2014 the higher the doses of N in top dressing, the higher the seed weight per fruit and per plant, the weight of 100 seeds and the vigor (first count in germination test). In crop 2015, seeds with the best quality (germination and first counting) were obtained in the 1/4+1/2+1/4 splitting. The decreasing order of the macronutrient content in the seeds was N>P>K>Mg>S>Ca.

Efficient nursery production of woody plants, as well as the level of their successful application in urban green spaces, greatly depends upon properties of substrates in which these individuals grow, develop and endure. Furthermore, quality of substrate does not only affect the quality of future product (plant individual or green space), but distinctly determines its price. This element, extremely significant for all countries in transition, thus Serbia as well, commands finding ways of making qualitative, but least expensive substrate. The most logical solution is to use mixtures/substrates of precisely defined properties, composed of domestic components. Results presented in this paper imply that it is possible to create precisely such standard mixtures from domestic resources at relatively low cost, adjusted to needs of particular species, which would ultimately lead to successful, non-expensive nursery production and application of produced stock, both on domestic and foreign markets.

Under the multi-point production management mode, Researchers establish a unified cooperative production multi-point product quality analysis standard, set benchmarks, compare performance, create a process quality management atmosphere of ratio, learning, catching up and exceeding, so that multi-point quality management ability can be obtained together to improve, product quality has been continuously improved. At present, the quality analysis of multi-point processed products in cooperative production is only a simple average and standard deviation detection and comparison of key processes and individual indicators, or a single analysis of the appearance quality of cigarettes. The analysis is relatively isolated and no in-depth research is conducted. It is impossible to comprehensively and comprehensively compare the processing quality levels of various processing enterprises. In response to these problems, this paper compares and analyzes several quality controlling schemes, selects the “platform + module” scheme and designs and constructs it. The article discusses the specific implementation measures of the design plan. From the perspective of the implementation effect of the plan, it can provide guarantee for improving the production quality of cigarettes.

The advanced production systems based on modern managerial methods for the manufacturing process, including the systems that use artificial intelligence, impose new demands in the field of continuously improving the quality of the production process and products. This chapter deals with both theoretical aspects of the production quality and with the use of the Japanese management methods and techniques in the strategic management of quality. As of 1973, the original concept of Taguchi developed throughout the world, regarding the improvement of the production and product quality. This concept brings its contribution to the “quality loss” function, the quality begins from designing, training all collaborators, ensuring the quality in production, verifying the company's quality. The use of the Taguchi method is dealt with separately as a technique of the strategic management of industrial production quality.

The aim of this chapter is to better understand the enabling and inhibiting impacts IT has on lean manufacturing. This chapter provides a rich picture of a paper mill producing liner reels and the impact of a reel administration system on the manufacturing process. It is important that an IT tool supporting lean manufacturing reflects its organization. When it does the IT tool can act as an enabler of organizational change that in turn increase productivity and the production quality, when it fails to do so it inhibits organizational change and hampers the quality of production. The conclusion is that framing the definition of high production quality regarding product and process is important and that teambuilding would be a contribution to this end by enhancing perspective taking among the employees.

Purpose – The recommendation of structural standards, e.g. PN-B-03002, shows a need to control the production quality of wall-elements; the quality control demands suitable guidelines to fit the requirements of the current mass-production of the wall-elements, then, the structural standard recognizes the need of improving the methods to identify the real elements quality. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach – The proposed inspection methodology corresponds to assessment models that combine the numerical and symptomatic models to evaluate the critical levels of wall-elements, based on non-intrusive tests through the measurement of a set of signals, using the Experimental Modal Analysis (EMA)-based techniques. Findings – The presented work is developed with an approach that applies advanced calculating techniques used for the structural analysis in civil engineering focused on the technical state assessment. Originality/value – The paper proposes a diagnostic methodology that can be added to the current regulations and standards based on EMA techniques.
