Recientemente, la influencia del director Luis García Berlanga ha sido destacada por crítica y público. Generalmente asociado por su colaboración con el guionista Rafael Azcona, Berlanga fue un cineasta atípico cuyas películas han sido irónicas, pero serios exponentes de la evolución de la sociedad española durante el pasado siglo. En el presente artículo, intentaremos mostrar uno de sus más importantes trabajos, El Verdugo, analizando no solamente sus aspectos sociales, sino incluyendo un estudio del lenguaje cinematográfico empleado para ello y el particular estilo con el que el director abordó algunos de los temas más controvertidos de su tiempo.Abstract:The influential of the director Luis García Berlanga has been recently increased by critics and public. Generally associated with the script-player Rafael Azcona, Berlanga was an unusual artist which films have been and ironical but serious example of the changes and the evolution of the Spanish society during the last century. Abstract This autoethnographic narrative explores the author’s capacity building experiences, observances, insights, and reflections over a two year period working with a youth livelihoods nongovernmental organization in the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu. Autoethnographies explore the author’s own personal insight and reflection of their own experiences, which in turn may encourage readers to reflect on their own beliefs and practices. The author will define autoethnography and capacity building, briefly outline the historical context of Vanuatu, discuss the successes and challenges of facilitating capacity building, and reflect on her own values, assumptions, and learning within the social context of an international development professional working with local staff in Vanuatu.

The purpose of this article is to illustrate the influence that socio-historical context has on the identity of a group. The identity of the hapū (tribe) Ngāi Tamarāwaho is examined to demonstrate the impact that specific phenomena associated with colonisation had on hapū identity, and the major focus of this chapter is the interplay between Ngāi Tamarāwaho and the phenomenon of colonisation. This article concentrates specifically on hapū identity during the colonisation era, which, in the context of this article, commenced with the arrival of Pākehā (British) settlers in New Zealand in 1814, and concluded with the establishment of the Waitangi Tribunal in 1975. For comparative purposes, parallels are drawn with other indigenous groups globally to highlight similarities between the colonisation experiences of these groups and those of Ngāi Tamarāwaho, and to illustrate common trends that occur as a result of colonisation and its associated phenomena. The first section in this article discusses the need to consider socio-historical context in research pertaining to identity, and provides examples of research that has been conducted to this effect. The second section establishes the social context of Ngāi Tamarāwaho, and the third section outlines the historical context. Following this is an analyis of the effects of aspects of colonisation on Ngāi Tamarāwaho identity, and this article concludes by discussing ways in which the hapū revived and reasserted their identity

Toward the end of the last century, particularly during the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s, hundreds of Catholic priests distanced themselves from the Church or decided to leave the ecclesiastical institution. This fact, unusual at that time, is the focal point of the present article, which is the result of an extensive investigation into the renunciation of the priesthood by a significant number of priests in the Barcelona diocese. The author addresses the question why such deeply committed members of an institution, as are the priests of the Catholic Church, decided to leave the institution at that moment. The author discusses some aspects of the social context in which this process took place and offers some explanations for these significant departures.

The present article aims to answer the question of whether creativity is universal or culture-specific. We develop a conceptual framework that expands the existing knowledge in two ways. First, it distinguishes between the two dimensions of creativity – novelty and usefulness, and their relationship to culture. Second, it clarifies how the social context moderates the relationship between culture and creativity. We focus on the social context where cultural differences are likely to be more salient because of the presence of others, relative to the private work context where no one observes whether a person performs in a normative or a unique way. In addition, we propose that task structure, whether a task is tightly or loosely structured, is an important contextual characteristic that moderates the relationship between culture and creativity. Lastly, we offer several propositions to guide future research.

BACKGROUND Alcohol is often consumed in social contexts. An emerging social context in which alcohol is becoming increasingly apparent is social media. More and more young people display alcohol-related posts on social networking sites such as Facebook and Instagram. OBJECTIVE Considering the importance of the social aspects of alcohol consumption and social media use, this study investigated the social content of alcohol posts (ie, the evaluative social context and presence of people) and social processes (ie, the posting of and reactions to posts) involved with alcohol posts on social networking sites. METHODS Participants (N=192; mean age 20.64, SD 4.68 years, 132 women and 54 men) gave researchers access to their Facebook and/or Instagram profiles, and an extensive content analysis of these profiles was conducted. Coders were trained and then coded all screenshotted timelines in terms of evaluative social context, presence of people, and reactions to post. RESULTS Alcohol posts of youth frequently depict alcohol in a positive social context (425/438, 97.0%) and display people holding drinks (277/412, 67.2%). In addition, alcohol posts were more often placed on participants’ timelines by others (tagging; 238/439, 54.2%) than posted by participants themselves (201/439, 45.8%). Furthermore, it was revealed that such social posts received more likes (mean 35.50, SD 26.39) and comments than nonsocial posts (no people visible; mean 10.34, SD 13.19, P<.001). CONCLUSIONS In terms of content and processes, alcohol posts on social media are social in nature and a part of young people’s everyday social lives. Interventions aiming to decrease alcohol posts should therefore focus on the broad social context of individuals in which posting about alcohol takes place. Potential intervention strategies could involve making young people aware that when they post about social gatherings in which alcohol is visible and tag others, it may have unintended negative consequences and should be avoided.

This paper explores the factors involved in an individual’s decision to wear a mask, looking also at the relationships among a wider range of actions recommended as part of the CDC’s COVID-19 public health strategy. Using national panel data collected beginning in March 2020, we analyze the interaction among self-reported measures of adherence to public health recommendations, individual perceptions of the effectiveness of mask wearing as a mitigation strategy, and indicators of individual attitudes toward political aspects of coronavirus mitigation. Results from two distinct analytic methods suggest that compliance with protective measures is associated with the belief that the coronavirus presents a real threat to the individual, that the recommended actions are effective at limiting the spread of the virus, and that there is nothing in the social context that discourages the individual from following the guidelines.

Currently, the factors for adopting m-learning revolve around higher education settings. However, the factors surrounding different cultural and background context of the user in using m-learning in different contexts are not fully explored, especially in the social context. Thus, there are needs to understand blended learning for self-directed learners from different communities. The main objectives of this paper are (i) to develop a conceptual framework of blended learning for self-directed learners in the social context by using mobile learning as the case study and (ii) to provide recommendations for improving m-learning for self-directed learners. The adapted conceptual framework which consists of (i) learner aspects, (ii) device aspects and (iii) the social aspects, was used in this study. A survey was conducted with 190 respondents who have experience in using mobile devices for self-directed learning and their qualitative responses were recorded. The preliminary descriptive results are presented to understand the user’s background and qualitative responses in supporting the recommendations related to (i) learner's aspects, (ii) device aspects and (iii) the social aspects, as suggested in the conceptual framework. This paper discusses the need of considering sociotechnical aspects in the scientific and professional practice of computing. In the pursuit of this goal, the paper firstly places the research on sociotechnical aspects of computing in a historical context and outlines the current research scenario in the area. Subsequently, the Mikropolis Model is explained—a model developed to provide orientation to the practical activities of the computing professional in respect to the social aspects of these activities. Furthermore, the paper discusses how to bring the model closer to the particular Brazilian context, in order to achieve analytical and didactic instruments especially suited to the reality in Brazil.

Resumen: En este artículo nos adentramos en la reorganización de las Panateneas desde el 566 hasta finales del s.VI, centrándonos especialmente en algunas pruebas atléticas de carácter “militar”, así como en el imaginario de la fiesta en relación con los gigantes y Atenea Promachos de las ánforas panatenaicas. La impronta “guerrera” de la fiesta puede ponerse en relación, desde nuestra perspectiva, con un contexto social de desarrollo de un grupo de ciudadanos con capacidad para costearse el armamento (los zeugitai solonianos) que participan de la fiesta y se sienten representados ideológicamente y posiblemente también en la práctica de las competiciones; en este sentido analizaremos la base social de la transferencia de unos determinados valores aristocráticos a una parte del demos y la construcción cultural de este colectivo a través de las Panateneas en el contexto histórico de la Atenas del s.VI.Abstract: In this article we study the reorganization of the Panathenaia from 566 until the end of the Sixth century BC, focusing especially on some athletic contests with military character, as well as exploring the imaginary of the festival in relation to the giants and the Athena Promachos of Panatenaic amphoras. The "warrior" stamp of the festival can be related, from our perspective, with a social context of development of a group of citizens who could afford the armament (the solonian zeugitai); they participate in the feast and feel represented ideologically in it and possibly also in the practice of the games. Taking its shape in the 1920s of the twentieth century, existentialism has pervaded into a wide range of world literatures. In Southern Vietnam (1955 – 1975), the reception of existentialism theories underwent no crack and proved to be compatible with the social context full of volatility. Existentialism is a “humanitarian theory” (J.P.Sartre). Existentialism theories have permeated the writers’ consciousness and works in terms of their views of the human fate in the period when "God is dead”. Duong Nghiem Mau was a pioneer writer in receiving and expressing existential themes in his works, paving the way for the existential literature of Southern Vietnam. His works reflected various social aspects of life in Southern Vietnam, featuring the voice of a lost generation. The return of Duong Nghiem Mau's fiction at the beginning of the twentieth-first century emerged as a piece of evidence for the durability of existentialism and its pervasiveness in the global literature.
