The present study predicted vocational purpose from thinking styles, a construct at the interface of intelligence and personality. 233 students majoring in history and computer science from a large research-oriented university in the People's Republic of China completed the Thinking Styles Inventory and the Iowa Vocational Purpose Inventory. The participants also rated their own analytical, creative, and practical abilities. In general, results indicated that thinking styles contributed to vocational purpose beyond self-rated abilities. Specifically, the more creativity-generating and complex thinking styles tended to contribute positively to vocational purpose, whereas the more conforming and simplistic thinking styles tended to contribute negatively to vocational purpose. This article points to the need theoretically for integrating the construct of thinking style into the definition of differential psychology. Practical data argue for a collaborative working relationship between teachers and vocational counselors in institutions of higher education.

Abstract Introduction:The authors of this paper base their research on the following assumption: the development of both geragogic education (older adult education) and profession is conditioned by the existence of a study program of geragogy provided by departments of geragogy created at universities (as public institutions of higher education). The fact remains that a qualified training of geragogues is absent in the Slovak conditions. Purpose:When compiling a graduate profile, inclusive of a list of competences that a geragogue should possess, a range of specific local circumstances needs to be taken into consideration. Subsequently, it is necessary to define a position of a geragogue. Geragogue is a professional working in the field of senior education, just like a pedagogue or an adult educator work in their fields. It is also important to identify and accentuate the philosophical and social context in which these professionals are confronted with the demands of today’s society, in a form of a society based on knowledge, questions of the ongoing social changes and defining the meaning of life. Results:The task of creating the department and program of geragogy is formulated as a social demand of the time, debunking the current myth of the crisis of universities. In history, a university was a vital place where the values serving social integration emerged. It was also a practice field for the educators to train so they could spread these values and transform them into social skills. Conclusion:In the conclusion, the authors propose key areas of undergraduate training of geragogues, including the definition of institutional anchoring, with the goal to contribute to ongoing professional discussion and to creation of the department and the program of geragogy.

Formation of spoken and written professional language of students is connected with the increase of the level of a set of their competences. The efficiency of this process largely depends on usage of the potential of the text-centric technology in the process of teaching the Ukrainian language for professional purposes because text is the main means for creation of professional context. The aim of the article is determination of directions of implementation of the textcentric teaching technology of the Ukrainian language for professional purposes at pedagogical institutions of higher education, and analysis of the functional load of polycode text in this context. A set of methods has been used in the research process: the theoretical methods (reflexive analysis and generalization of literary sources for clarification of the level of solving the issue in the modern scientific area), the methods of visualization and generalization (for elucidation of the ways of usage of polycode texts while teaching the course). On the basis of analysis of scientific definitions of the concept “text” and its main features, there has been formulated a linguo-didactic definition of educational text and vectors of implementation of the text-centric teaching technology of the Ukrainian language for professional purposes at pedagogical institutions of higher education. Research of polycode text as a means of implementation of the text-centric teaching has been conducted, the main kinds of polycode texts and their functional load in the course of the Ukrainian language for professional purposes have been defined and analyzed. The exceptional didactic potential of hypertext as a modern form of organization of material, which is becoming especially important in conditions of distant education, is emphasized. The most efficient organizational forms of working with hypertext have been defined. Considering the features of the structure of polycode text (combination of the verbal and nonverbal components), document has been defined as its specific form. The holistic view of the studied issue is illustrated by the constructed model of the textcentric teaching technology of the Ukrainian language for professional purposes at pedagogical institutions of higher education.

Institutions of higher education, national governments and (inter)national organizations have become more proactive, comprehensive, diverse, and innovative in their approaches to internationalization. Critical reflection on their outcomes, and in particular their impact on student learning, has resulted in a search for approaches to internationalization that have deeper meaning and greater impact. However, it is only relatively recently that questions related to the relationship between the internationalization of higher education, the curriculum and the disciplines have been explored in depth. Some of these questions are discussed, such as the relationship between ‘at home’ and ‘abroad’, the role of mobility, the role of contexts and the definition of internationalization of the curriculum.

The relevance of the study is conditioned by the need to build an effective methodological system of teaching the Ukrainian language in a professional aspect, which requires the definition of specific goals and objectives of the discipline. The purpose of the training course should be reflected in the milestone and meet the components of the global goals of educational training, while understanding the purpose and the intended use of the discipline consolidates and enhances its status in higher education, ensuring its long life cycle. The purpose of the study is to clarify the life cycle and status of the discipline in modern pedagogical institutions of higher education, to determine the goals and objectives of teaching the Ukrainian language in a professional aspect. The work uses a set of scientific methods: reflective and comparative analysis, generalisation – to study the information field of the problem, component analysis of the formulation of the purpose of teaching the Ukrainian language in a professional aspect; scientific abstraction and visualisation – to reproduce the life cycle of the training course, to determine its status. The concept of “life cycle of the discipline” is formulated: the time of its functioning in the educational system of the country, during which it is capable of effectively performing the current educational functions. It is proposed to formulate the purpose of teaching the Ukrainian language in the professional aspect of future pedagogical workers: the development of oral and written professional speech of students by increasing the level of certain competences, developing innovative thinking and working with information, maintaining interest in professional activities in order to develop a personality of a highly competitive specialist ready for self-improvement in the chosen area of work

AbstractIn an urgent effort to internationalize curricula, institutions of higher education are rethinking the role of language study. Many administrators, faculty, and staff are realizing that language study is more than merely a means of communication. More importantly, it is the key to understanding how people from diverse cultural backgrounds, especially those who are engaged in our academic institutions, interpret their cultural experiences. Three important questions will be discussed in this paper: (1) If we accept the idea that curriculum reforms should mirror the changing world, then what curricular changes are needed to promote internationalization?, (2) What role does language study play in this reformed curriculum?, and (3) If we accept a new definition of knowledge as having a language and cultural component, then how can we better prepare our students to gain multilingual and multicultural competence?
