Abstract Three manganese complexes of the antibiotic doxycyline viz.: manganese doxycyline, [MnDox2]Cl2‧2H2O (1), and manganese doxycyline with bipyridine, [MnDox2(bpy)]Cl2‧8H2O (2), and phenanthroline, [MnDox2(phen)]Cl2‧8H2O (3), as the ancillary ligand were synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, elemental analysis and electrospray mass spectroscopy. The three complexes show good solubility in DMF and DMSO. Data obtained from spectroscopic techniques used show that doxycycline coordinates to the central manganese atom through the oxygen of the amide group and the carbonyl oxygen atom of ring A while bipyridine/phenanthroline coordinates through the two diimine nitrogen atoms. The stoichiometry of manganese-doxycycline is 1:2 and octahedral geometry is the preferred coordination in all the complexes.

Recently, there has been an increasing interest in the application of nanotubular structures for drug delivery. There are several promising results with carbon nanotubes; however, in light of some toxicity issues, the search for alternative materials has come into focus. The objective of the present study was to investigate the influence of the applied solvent on the composite formation of titanate nanotubes (TNTs) with various drugs in order to improve their pharmacokinetics, such as solubility, stability, and bioavailability. Composites were formed by the dissolution of atenolol (ATN) and hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) in ethanol, methanol, 0.01 M hydrochloric acid or in ethanol, 1M sodium hydroxide, dimethylformamide (DMF), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), respectively, and then they were mixed with a suspension of TNTs under sonication for 30 min and vacuum-dried for 24 h. The structural properties of composites were characterized by SEM, TEM, FT-IR, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric (TG) analysis, and optical contact angle (OCA) measurements. Drug release was determined from the fast disintegrating tablets using a dissolution tester coupled with a UV–Vis spectrometer. The results revealed that not only the good solubility of the drug in the applied solvent, but also the high volatility of the solvent, is necessary for an optimal composite-formation process.

The paper presents six homologues series of Schiff bases ether compounds distinguished by the length of terminal alkoxy groups which substituted on a side benzene nucleus. The above structures were demonstrated through the use of spectroscopic techniques, like FT- IR and 1H-NMR. Polarized hot stage optical microscopy was used to study both mesomorphic properties and phase transitions. The results showed that out of the six compounds only three (B2, B3 and B4) were pure (marble) nematic mesophase, while no liquid crystal properties for (B5, B6 and B7) compounds. The theoretical study for the electronic structures was intended to study the effects of alkyl chain length on the electronic structure by using Gaussian program, DFT and 6-31G as basis set. The theoretical results indicate that there is no effect to the terminal substituted alkoxy groups on the HOMO energies but there is an effect on LUMO energies through decreasing energy for the prepared compounds.

The aim of this study was to assess by means of biometric measurements and FT-IR and FT-Raman spectroscopic techniques the influence of storage conditions on the morphology and biochemical composition of Dahlia tubers. Investigated samples belong to ‘Kennemerland’ and ‘Red Pygmy’ cultivars of the Dahlia hybrida species, which were preserved over winterat 5-8 °C, 30-40% air humidity in different substrates: sand, sand and sawdust, peat and sawdust. The biometric parameters revealed that the peat and sawdust substrate is the most appropriate one for tubers storage, whereas the sand substrate is the least suitable one. The inulin signature was evidenced in all tuber samples as well as the changes of biochemical composition induced by different storage conditions. The analysis of the FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra demonstrated that the inulinaccumulation inside the tubers is favourably influenced by the sand storage, and depends on the cultivar type. Moreover, it was established that the peat and sawdust substrate favours the polyacetylene formation inside the tubers probably because it facilitates the occurrence and development of pathogens inside the tuber. It was also found that the polyacetylene concentration increased, which is associated with the plant response to the pathogen invasion, depends on the cultivar type.

Raw vegetable oil from Crambe abyssinica was subjected to oxidative treatment to enhance its viscosity. The oxidation processes were carried out in the presence of N-hydroxyphthalimide with or without supercritical CO2 as a solvent. Four spectroscopic techniques (Raman, UV-VIS, FT-IR, NMR) were applied to assess the chemical changes taking place during the oxidation. Raman and NMR spectroscopy proved best in the assessment of the chemical transformations leading to increased viscosity of the modified vegetable oil.

This work presents a dry synthesis of Iron (III) complex with urea isolated from human urine and Fe (III) obtained from iron rust particles. Iron (III), PI (Purified iron rust), was isolated from iron rust in 10% hydrochloric acid, HCl and distilled water respectively. The complex was synthesized via dry-synthesis method using the melted urea as reaction medium. The isolated Fe (III) was characterized by elemental analysis which was done using XRF Cu-Zn method. The complex was prepared in a 1:4 metal to ligand (M-L) ratio. The stoichiometry of reaction indicate a 1:3 ratio of M-L (Fe-U). The complex was characterized by FT-IR, UV-vis, XRF and XRD spectroscopic techniques. The Fe (III) isolate and Fe-U complex shows percentage yields of 35.7% and ~92% respectively. The elemental and oxide composition of Fe and Fe2O3 (i.e., PI) were 40.387% and 57.753% respectively. The results obtained from the characterization of the iron-urea complex, IUC, indicate FT-IR result as symmetric and asymmetric frequencies with peaks of a combination band of Vs (NH) and Vas (NH), C=O and V (C-N) all stretched, XRD showed the crystal to be amorphous. The elemental and oxide composition of the Fe and Fe2O3 in IUC were 40.007 and 44.201 respectively. The results obtained revealed that useful complexes can be synthesized easily from waste materials, such as urine and iron rust particles, which complement Green chemistry.

This work included synthesis of azo dye (H1) by the reaction of diazonium salt to sulfacetamide with 4-hydroxy benzaldehyde at (0-5) oC  and synthesis of schiff base (H2-H6) through reaction substituted aromatic amine (aniline, 4-nitro aniline, 4-chloro aniline, 4-amino benzoic acid and phenyl hydrazine)  with aldehyde group in azo compound (H1) in ethanol compounds (H2-H6) and tetrazole derivatives prepared by reaction schiff base with sodium azide in ethanol compounds (H7-H11) and characterization by using spectroscopic techniques Uv/Vis, FT-IR, C.H.N. and H1-NMR of some the prepared compounds using DMSO-d6 a solvent, in addition melting point and determination a purity of TLC, and this work consists a study of biological activity for the some prepared compounds against four types of pathogenic bacteria and know to be resistant to anti biotic.

The genus Prangos is traditionally used for medicinal and food purposes. This genus contains a wide range of bioactive metabolites. In this work, phytochemical investigation and antioxidant activity evaluation of Prangos ferulacea were carried out. Chromatographic techniques were employed for the purification of extracts components. Spectroscopic techniques such as NMR, FT-IR, together with elemental analysis, were used for the structure elucidation of isolated compounds. Stigmasterol, daucosterol, and salicylic acid were purified and identified. Isolated compounds showed moderate to high antiradical activity in DPPH antioxidant assay. Results indicated the potential of P. ferulacea as a source of steroid and their glycosides and also its possible applications as antioxidant agents.

A new Schiff base, namely 2-methoxy-6-((2-(4 nitrophenyl) hydrazineylidene) methyl)phenol was synthesized and characterized by melting points, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis and spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR, 1H-NMR and UV-VIS spectra). The chemical structure of compound was further confirmed by single crystal structural X-ray diffraction. The Schiff base is crystallized in the triclinic space group P-1. In the crystal, molecules are linked by O-H…O hydrogen bonds between the hydroxy “-O-” atom and the methoxy “-O-” atom. Furthermore, the synthesized Schiff base was tested for the in vitro anticandidal activities using CLSI broth microdilution method against human pathogenic Candida albicans, C. parapsilosis and C. krusei standard strains. In the anticandidal activity test results, the new Schiff base was found to be effective at 1 mg/mL - 0.25 mg/mL concentrations. (The last line omitted) (The sentence marked in red will be deleted)
