Abstract This paper provides an analysis of the influence of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure, usage and skills on the export and import of goods and services in the region of South-East Europe (SEE) by applying gravity models to bilateral trade flows through the panel data analysis. The results show that GDP per capita and Internet usage have a significant positive impact on import, and in addition, the digital infrastructure and digital skills have a positive, but small impact on export. Distance has a negative impact on trade. These countries faced relatively poor development and usage of the ICT sector, which indicates unexplored potential which could be used to improve international trade if exploited by businesses, government and households.

Participants of this research were  male and female adolescents, aged 12-16 (N=90). Data collection used McMaster Family Assessment Device (FAD). The study showed there exists no significant differences of using ICT between male and female adolescents. All participants used their gadgets for communication (verbal and written) and browsing. There were neither significant differences of family functioning between male and female adolescents. Other related findings were discussed. Penemuan lainnya turut didiskusikan.

This paper studies the effect of digitalization on the perception of corruption and trust in tax officials in Africa. Using individual-level data from Afrobarometer surveys and several indices of digitalization, we find that an increase in digital adoption is associated with a reduction in the perception of corruption and an increase in trust in tax officials. Exploiting the exogeneous deployment of submarine cables at the local level, the paper provides evidence of a negative impact of the use of Internet on the perception of corruption. Yet, the paper shows that the dampening effect of digitalization on corruption is hindered in countries where the government has a pattern of intentionally shutting down the Internet, while countries that successfully promote information and communication technology (ICT) enjoy a more amplified effect.

Due to the accelerated pace of information and communication technology developments, the digital society and the digital economy have become real and, in turn, pose specific challenges. In this environment, digital skills and competences are essential to achieve the professional success and personal development of any individual. The positive impact that information and communication technology has on education cannot be disputed, but there are also some obstacles that need to be overcome in order to make the most of these benefits. An essential aspect to consider is that technology has repercussions not only on pupils and students, but also on teachers, who must adapt and acquire the knowledge necessary to disseminate information. Having as the main objective of reflecting the impact of digitalization on the educational sector, the paper highlights the basic concepts in the field of digital technology and, at the same time, the current implications on educational processes. At the same time, through logistic regression, the way in which the means of digital innovation influence the education in Romania is analysed and to determine the factors with the highest degree of influence. Modern technology can be considered as synonymous with the future and that is why it is essential that all young students acquire the digital knowledge necessary to revolutionize the educational process and at the same time redefine the recruitment of the labour market.

Abstract Using export panel data for China and 24 bamboo and rattan trading partners from 2007 to 2017, this study simulates the export trade of Chinese bamboo and rattan products using a gravity model. Our results showed that economic size has a significant positive impact on the bilateral trade of bamboo and rattan products, while absolute distance between two major economic centers and population size have a significant negative impact. Furthermore, relevant Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) trade arrangements have an impact on bamboo and rattan product trade flows from China. Meanwhile, trade of bamboo and rattan between China and APEC countries such as South Korea, Canada, Russia, and Thailand shows much room for growth.

The continuous development of the new-generation Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has drawn increased focus and investment from China. However, will China’s investment in the ICT bring a long-term positive impact on China’s economic growth? Will such impact be changed by any external factors? These questions bear strong significance for the academic cycle and require urgent solutions. Given such concerns, the paper introduced a partial dynamic adjustment model and selected the panel data of China from 2001 to 2016 to study how China’s investment in ICT affected its economic performance. The study found that such investment has significantly promoted the economic growth of China with gradually shortened gap between physical capital and the ICT investment, while human capital still played a vital role in economic growth; there is a mutual and harmonious influence between macrovariable and the speed of adjustment, and only their effective combination can improve economic performance to the maximum extent.

Abstract The digitalization current is among one of the most relevant factors that currently drive transformation in the economy, with different degrees of impact across the main segments of the economy. As the topic of sustainability is now on the agenda of the biggest economic players, digitalization and the ability to leverage Information and Communication Technology opportunities have been recognized as drivers for innovation and change and a means to reach the sustainability goals. Reaching energy efficiency has been among the main objectives of both the public and the private sectors, leading to an increased interest in recognizing and capitalizing on energy efficiency opportunities. This in turn has an impact on the overall energy productivity, defined as the economic output per unit of energy. While this indicator has relevance at both micro and macro level, it is important to identify which makes some countries perform better than others. In the current economic context, studying how the performance of countries in the digital era correlates with the energy productivity can reveal further information on how it can be improved. The Networked Readiness Index is an indicator which assesses how well a country can capitalize on digital technologies and whether their usage of Information and Communication Technology has a relevant socio-economic impact. This paper analyzes which components that are assessed in a country’s Networked Readiness Index might influence energy productivity. Based on a panel data analysis performed on European countries, the study identifies that the individual usage of Information and Communication Technologies, the business and innovation environment and the usage of ICT by the business segment could have an impact on the energy productivity of a country.
