Abstract In the last decade evolution of the requirements for training and professional competences of ship’s crewmembers, including ship engineers can be observed. Despite the implementation of training programs according to IMO requirements in maritime training centres, a different level of competence of young people beginning their professional career on ships in the engine department is observed. The article discusses general conventions, goals, and effects of the “BS Cadet Program” training program, introduced by one of the larger German ship-owner to improve the competencies of crewmembers at the operational level, who will take duties of the watch engineer in the ship engine room soon. General idea of this training program is reducing the time of the path career what is a standard in most shipping companies. Such idea in this program is utilised by directly merging theoretical knowledge with professional practice on special prepared training vessel. The work present also comparison of the acquired knowledge verification results of training participants with the results of engine cadets from last semester of the UMG Faculty of Engineering. The comparison includes computer exercises of Marine equipment and machineries (UNITEST Company – CBT) also genera ship and engine room knowledge checked by written test called “Final Test” carried out on the end of 3 months training.

This case study explores the strategic business opportunities, for Lane Crawford, an iconic luxury department store, to transition in a circular economy towards sustainability. A new experimentation framework was developed and conducted among cross departmental employees, during a Design Lab, with intention to co-create novel Circular Economy business concepts towards a new vision: the later was a reframe of the old system based on the principles of sustainability; to move beyond a linear operational model towards a circular economy that can contribute to a regenerative society. This work draws on both academic and professional experience and was conducted through professional practice. It was found that innovative co-created concepts, output from the Design Lab, can create radical change in a circular economy that is holistically beneficial and financially viable; looking forward to extract greater value a)Internal organization requires remodeling to transform towards a circular economy; b)Requirement for more horizonal teams across departments vs solely vertical; c)New language and relationships are required to be able to transition towards a circular economy; d)Some form of physical and virtual space requirements, for cross-disciplinary teams to come together to co-create; e)Ability to iterate, learn and evolve requires agency across the business

Pre-service and in-service MPA students share a common desire for hands-on, real world instruction related to their professional career goals, leading to a pedagogic discounting of fiction as an appropriate tool for analyzing and "solving" problems. However, several factors weigh heavily in favor of using science fiction short stories and novellas in the MPA classroom setting. These include the need for interesting case scenarios exploring various administrative issues; leveling the playing field between the two types of students by de-emphasizing the use of "contemporary" cases; access to literature that explores the future shock of increasing organizational complexity; and the desirability of Rorschach type materials that facilitate discussion of. values and administrative truths. The discussion proceeds by tracing the development of the case study technique, its advantages and disadvantages in the classroom, addressing the utility of "fiction" as an educational resource, and showing how the science fiction literature has matured to the point where it can be applied in all of the major sub-fields of public administration. Several outstanding examples are detailed, and a thorough bibliography is provided.

This article presents a case study describing the contribution of a sport psychology consultant to an ultra-distance runner’s attempt to complete 500 miles (800 kilometers) in 20 days through the deserts of North America. The contribution can be considered in four phases that provide a descriptive framework for the role of a sport psychology consultant: (a) establishing a rapport with the athlete, (b) formulating a psychological profile, (c) evaluating the demands of the athletic pursuit and planning an appropriate mental training program, and (d) ongoing evaluation of progress and crisis intervention.

AbstractThe paper presents the results of a scientific project focused on limiting nutrient losses from farms by introducing measures to apply fertilizers in a more sustainable way. It is a case study of selected aspects of farm management, focussing on the issue of sustainable agriculture and their tools. The main aim of the study was to analyse and evaluate farmers’ knowledge of the fertilizing process and its aspects, as well as applying sustainable agricultural activities on farms. The study emphasised the importance of nutrient management, as very important for sustainable farming. Also, the links between farmers’ opinions and their activities were analysed. The important issue concerned measures for sustainable farm management introduced on the farms, as well as measures to limit nutrient leaching into groundwater. Twenty-eight farmers from two regions in Poland were interviewed about their perceptions for the case study. In general, the farmers considered their farm activities to be more sustainable than in the past. They demonstrated an understanding of the general idea of sustainable agriculture. However, many farmers still demonstrated a poor grasp of nutrient flows and nutrient balances on farms. Their knowledge and perception was based on general, rather than specific knowledge gleaned from an academic/vocational course. The farmers demonstrated a realization that there were some new, or low-cost measures that could be introduced to make management more sustainable and pro-environmental, but there was still a need for wider adoption of sustainable agricultural practices.

Is my professional knowledge outdated? Do I have the skills needed for the new challenges of the society? What knowledge do I lack to qualify for a job I like? What universities can I address to get knowledge that improves my employment expectations? These are relevant questions that all employees have done in any moment of their life. In addition, when there are high rates of unemployment and job offers that keep unfilled, the answers to these questions are even more relevant. Answering such questions open new opportunities for employed and unemployed people, by allowing them to design a formative plan according to their skills and expectations. It also provides evidences to employers about the skills and knowledge of the society, making them more aware of the skills of their potential future employees. The companies also will have more knowledge to design the professional career of their employees according to the company needs and the knowledge and skills of their employees. This paper proposes a system that helps people by showing which knowledge and skills a person misses for a given job position and what university courses the person can take to acquire the required skills and knowledge. The system has been implemented as a recommender system that helps users in planning their life-long learning. The paper shows the architecture of the proposed system, a case study to explain how it works, a survey to validate its usefulness and usability and some conclusions after its first experimentation.

Objetivo: conhecer a imagem do enfermeiro frente ao acadêmico de enfermagem. Metodologia: estudo de caso qualitativo fundamentado na Sociologia Compreensiva do Cotidiano, realizado com 26 participantes do 9º período de uma instituição de ensino superior. Os dados foram coletados por meio da entrevista individual e analisados segundo Análise de Conteúdo Temática. Resultados: a imagem se postula em um profissional essencial na área da saúde, que organiza o setor, gerencia ações, lidera a equipe, presta assistência aos pacientes e é referência para outros profissionais. ABSTRACT This study aims to determine the effect of the application of blended learning on the learning outcomes of class X MIA students at SMA PGRI 2 Padang. This study used a pre-experimental design in the form of a One-Shot Case Study by taking research subjects by Purposive Sampling. The sample of this research was the students of class X MIA. This study used descriptive questions as a final test instrument. The data analysis technique used in this research was a t-test. Based on the data collection techniques and data analysis carried out, it was obtained that tcount = 1.81 and ttable = 1.68, because tcount > ttable, then reject H0 at a significant level of 0.05 so it can be concluded that there is an effect of applying blended learning on studensts’ learning outcomes of class X MIA at SMA PGRI 2 Padang. Keywords: Blended Learning, Learning Outcomes

The purpose of this case study was to describe the impact of a multi-ethnic, multicultural program on participating students. The program was designed to immerse students in Mexican culture as a means of combating ignorance of and violence against members of ethnic groups at Fairfield University. Interviews, pretests and post-tests, and participation observation were used to determine whether the training program was responsible for changes in student perceptions and judgements. Four instruments were used, each of which provided a distinct vantage point for viewing developmental change. The study demonstrated that through personal contact changes in attitude can be effected.

Abstract Statistical methods are explored for the use in modelling of discrete manufacturing. The developed methodologies based on Design of Experiments (DOE) and stepwise regression to obtain the product model are described. This model is then embedded within a software system which is used for simulation of design changes, process changes and disturbances. The software is used to predict final test results in respect of up-stream parameter changes. A case study is presented o show the implementation of this method of modelling in Quality Control of manufacture. This case study has successfully been implemented. The system is currently assisting the company in design of similar product. Feasibility of applying Artificial Intelligen (AI) techniques to Model-Based Quality Control (MBQC) is investigated. An outline of the future development of Hybrid MBQC is then presented.
