AbstractIntroduction: The bio-banding (BB) concept refers to the practice of grouping athletes based on attributes associated with growth and maturation instead of chronological age. Lately, the advantages and disadvantages of bio-banding are widely debated in the world of sports. Supporters of this method consider that this is a more correct way of grouping athletes giving greater equality in selection, training, and competition and so, decreasing the risk of injury. This paperaims to increase awareness and interest in bio-banding and for this reason, we analyzed the existent evidence on this topic to highlight the benefits, implications, limitations, importance, and impediments when it comes to applying it in the sports field. Methods: For the literature review, we used Google Academic as a search engine and bio-banding as the main keyword. We chose to document this concept only regarding boys because approaching both genders is much more complex if we take into account the differences in terms of growth and maturation. To have a clear line of research, we chose to study this concept in terms of applicability in football, being a sport that is highly popular in our country. Results: After the primary analysis we selected a total of 20 relevant studies that were analyzed and discussed to establish and highlight the advantages and disadvantages of this method of selection and grouping in sports. Conclusion: Bio-banding can be a missing jigsaw of the training for youth athletes but further longitudinal studies are needed in order to clarify the advantages of bio-banding use.

With the increase in the aging population around the world, the medical field is also changing in response. The number one cause of mortality in the aging population is non-communicable diseases such as diabetes mellitus, heart disease or kidney failure. Advancements in technology make it possible for diagnoses and treatments to be no longer confined physically but they can be done virtually. However, there are several drawbacks in fully utilizing telemedicine such as hesitancy from the medical personnel and unclear law requirements. In this review, we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of telemedicine from three perspectives of the patients, medical personnel, and hospitals.

Introduction. The number of contact lens users continues to increase, exceeding the total of more than 125 million people in the world. The trend of modern vision correction with contact lenses is the creation of customized contact lenses and specialty lens care products that better meet the needs of patients of all age groups.Purpose. To study the evolution of contact lens care products, their properties, composition characteristics, reliability of cleaning and disinfection, advantages and disadvantages of multifunctional solutions and peroxide systems, compatibility with contact lens materials as well as the effct of contact lens care solutions on the eye microbiome based on a literature data review.Material and methods. The analysis of scientifi publications available on Pubmed, BCLA, Elibrary, Elsevier and Medline for the last 20 years was carried out; 48 sources of literature were analyzed.Results. The analysis of literature has shown that the evolution of both contact lenses and contact lens care products has tightened the control over the safety of wearing. We have studied not only the composition and characteristics of each component of contact lens care and disinfection systems, but also the properties of the eye microbiome and its changes whilst wearing contact lenses. It is noted that under otherwise equal conditions, peroxide systems for contact lens care provide more reliable protection against contamination of all types of lenses, as well as ensure a better disinfection, protecting the eye from possible microbial, toxic and allergic complications. We also analyzed patients’ behavior and identifid their concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic.Conclusion. The patient’s choice of a lens care product must be approved by contact lens specialist and ophthalmologist. Contact lens care products should ensure perfect cleaning, maximum disinfection, hydration and be compatible with lens materials; they should be selected taking into account the patient-specifi characteristics of the ocular surface, lifestyle and health condition. It is necessary to continuously educate and inform patients about the importance of lens care products, and special attention should be paid to care during a pandemic for the safe wearing of CL.

AIDS is a globalized infectious disease. In 2014, UNAIDS launched a global project of “90-90-90” to end the HIV epidemic by 2030. The second and third 90 require 90% of HIV-1 infected individuals receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART) and durable virological suppression. However, wide use of ART will greatly increase the emergence and spreading of HIV drug resistance and current HIV drug resistance test (DRT) assays in China are seriously lagging behind, hindering to achieve virological suppression. Therefore, recommending an appropriate HIV DRT method is critical for HIV routine surveillance and prevention in China. In this review, we summarized the current existing HIV drug resistance genotypic testing methods around the world and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of these methods.

Since the end of the bipolar era, Italy has regularly undertaken military interventions around the world, with an average of 8,000 units employed abroad in the twenty-first century. Moreover, Italy is one of the principal contributors to the UN operations. The end of the cold war represented a turning point for Italian defence, allowing for greater military dynamism. Several reforms have been approved, while public opinion changed its view regarding the armed forces. This chapter aims to provide a comprehensive perspective of the process of transformation that occurred in post-cold-war Italian defence, looking at the evolution of national strategies, military doctrines, and the structure of forces. After a brief literature review, the study highlights the process of transformation of Italian defeshnce policy since 1989. Through primary and secondary sources, the chapter illustrates the main changes that occurred, the never-ending cold-war legacies, and key challenges.

Recent population migrations have led to numerous accidents and deaths. Little research has been done to help migrants in their journey. For this reason, a literature review of the latest research conducted in previous years is required to identify new research trends in human-swarm interaction. This article presents a review of techniques that can be used in a robots swarm to find, locate, protect and help migrants in hazardous environment such as militarized zone. The paper presents a swarm interaction taxonomy including a detailed study on the control of swarm with and without interaction. As the interaction mainly occurs in cluttered or crowded environment (with obstacles) the paper discussed the algorithms related to navigation that can be included with an interaction strategy. It focused on comparing algorithms and their advantages and disadvantages.

Since December 2019, SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) has been a worldwide pandemic with enormous consequences for human health and the world economy. Remdesivir is the only drug in the world that has been approved for the treating of COVID-19. This drug, as well as vaccination, still has uncertain effectiveness. Drug repurposing could be a promising strategy how to find an appropriate molecule: rapamycin could be one of them. The authors performed a systematic literature review of available studies on the research describing rapamycin in association with COVID-19 infection. Only peer-reviewed English-written articles from the world’s acknowledged databases Web of Science, PubMed, Springer and Scopus were involved. Five articles were eventually included in the final analysis. The findings indicate that rapamycin seems to be a suitable candidate for drug repurposing. In addition, it may represent a better candidate for COVID-19 therapy than commonly tested antivirals. It is also likely that its efficiency will not be reduced by the high rate of viral RNA mutation.

The European Commission has recently adopted the Renovation Wave Strategy, aiming at the improvement of the energy performance of buildings. The strategy aims to at least double renovation rates in the next ten years and make sure that renovations lead to higher energy and resource efficiency. The choice of appropriate thermal insulation materials is one of the simplest and, at the same time, the most popular strategies that effectively reduce the energy demand of buildings. Today, the spectrum of insulation materials is quite wide, and each material has its own specific characteristics. It is recognized that the selection of materials is one of the most challenging and difficult steps of a building project. This paper aims to give an in-depth view of existing multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) applications for the selection of insulation materials and to provide major insights in order to simplify the process of methods and criteria selection for future research. A systematic literature review is performed based on the Search, Appraisal, Synthesis and Analysis (SALSA) framework and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. In order to determine which MCDM method is the most appropriate for different questions, the main advantages and disadvantages of different methods are provided.

AbstractThe new SARS-CoV-2 virus is an RNA virus that belongs to the Coronaviridae family and causes COVID-19 disease. The newly sequenced virus appears to originate in China and rapidly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic that, until January 5th, 2021, has caused more than 1,866,000 deaths. Hence, laboratories worldwide are developing an effective vaccine against this disease, which will be essential to reduce morbidity and mortality. Currently, there more than 64 vaccine candidates, most of them aiming to induce neutralizing antibodies against the spike protein (S). These antibodies will prevent uptake through the human ACE-2 receptor, thereby limiting viral entrance. Different vaccine platforms are being used for vaccine development, each one presenting several advantages and disadvantages. Thus far, thirteen vaccine candidates are being tested in Phase 3 clinical trials; therefore, it is closer to receiving approval or authorization for large-scale immunizations.
