The main concern of this paper is to study on masculinity and more importantly the hyper masculinity of the Gurkhas in Imperial Warriors: Britain and the Gurkhas by Tony Gould. The writer describes the courage with discipline and dedication, the Gurkhas had while fighting for Nepal, their homeland during the Anglo-Nepal War (1814-1816) and for Britain in the First and Second World Wars, following the other wars and confrontations in many parts of the world. Despite a lot of hardships and pain in wars, they never showed their back to the enemies, but kept Britain’s imperial image always high with victories. They received Victoria Crosses along with other bravery medals. As a masculinity, the hegemonic masculinity is obviously present in the book since the high ranked British Officers are in the position to lead the Gurkha soldiers. However, the masculinity here is associated with the extreme level of bravery and that is the hyper-masculinity of the Gurkhas. Since this is a qualitative research work, the researcher has consulted various books, reviews and journal articles related to the Gurkhas. It is a new concept in the study of the Gurkhas in the particular book by Gould. So, it will certainly be a new insight for the future researchers in the related area.

The debate initiated by Michael Burawoy’s 2004 Presidential Address to the American Sociological Association, “For Public Sociology,” has been a ‘public good’ (2005a; see also 2004abc, 2005bcdefg, 2006, 2007abc, 2008). Burawoy provoked sociologists around the world into revisiting the fundamental question “What is the nature and purpose of the discipline?”, and the variety of responses they have crafted is remarkable. Whatever the views individual scholars might hold, the discipline as a whole is deeply, inherently, and unavoidably political. Many of his critics have commented on the fact that it incongruous for him to call for a rejuvenated, highly politicized public sociology and simultaneously claim that such an entity could realistically involve relationships of “synergy,” “reciprocal interdependence,” and “organic solidarity” with the other three types (or “faces”) of sociology, including professional sociology It is axiomatic – part of the conventional wisdom of the discipline – that professional sociologists cannot accept the politicization of the research process. In order to remain scientific, professional sociology must stand in an unalterably adversarial relationship with the value-laden radical/ critical sociology that constitutes the basis for Burawoy’s vision of a properly constituted public sociology.

The aim of this anthropological essay is to present the emotional and intellectual processes accompanying me over the years of field research among the Bolivian Moré, who belong to the Chapacura language family. The narrative structure is twofold: addressing both topics and issues that motivated me intellectually to do the research, and the attitudes of Moré themselves, as well as conceptual categories around which their narratives seem to focus. Some passages of this essay take a more analytical form, as I focus on the impor- tance of unpredictable events, the context, and the transformation of field experience over time during the research process. I conclude that both sides of the fieldwork encounter face the task of getting to know the Other. Each gets to know the Other in a particular way through conceptual categories and ways of acting that result from their current way of being in the world.

This paper tackles the question of netnography in the digital age. The shifts that the world has known during these last decades lead to the emergence of a new paradigm. The research in digital studies raises today many issues about the notions and the methods that we should use in this new field of study. We aim from our research to contribute to this current scientific discussion through a main question that we intend to address in our paper, and which we can formulate as follows: what is the nature of the criteria and the characteristics which make netnography a different method than ethnography? And if the subject of study in this practice is virtual and geographically undetermined, how can the researcher limit it, and how can he address it scientifically? Our goal from this paper is to unveil the specificity of netnography as a new notion and a new practice in sociology. So, we will formulate our perception of this concept by demarcating the lines between it and the other notions which intersect with it, namely, ethnography.

This article aimed to examine the phenomenon of celebrity preachers and the religious revival of the urban millennial generation. Nowadays, celebrity preacher is a phenomenon that crowds the public space in Indonesia, especially in the information and technology media. The appearance of young, handsome, and classy preachers has influenced the world of da'wah among millennial youth in this country. Either aware or not, the awakening of this religious celebrity has changed the way of the young millennial generation in seeing life, especially the religious life of the motherland. It seems that the current millennial generation prefers instantaneous, instant religious information, rather than systematic learning through formal educational institutions, such as pesantren and other religious schools. On one hand, this phenomenon is a positive trend. But on the other hand, it needs to be a concern of all parties, that in the future it is necessary to prepare young preachers who truly understand religion profoundly so that it does not seem just a mere spectacle and ignores the guidance. This phenomenon of celebrity preachers is reminiscent of the relevance and significance of "preachers certification” which some time ago was echoed by the ministry of religion. Of course, this becomes important to keep this religion truly well understood and profoundly.

Qualitative studies are tools used in understanding and describing the world of human experience. Since we maintain our humanity throughout the research process, it is largely impossible to escape the subjective experience, even for the most seasoned of researchers. As we proceed through the research process, our humanness informs us and often directs us through such subtleties as intuition or 'aha' moments. Speaking about the world of human experience requires an extensive commitment in terms of time and dedication to process; however, this world is often dismissed as 'subjective' and regarded with suspicion. This paper acknowledges that small qualitative studies are not generalizable in the traditional sense, yet have redeeming qualities that set them above that requirement.
