To increase the efficiency of float valve tray in plate column, a combined directed valve tray was developed. Comparative analysis of tray pressure drops, entrainments, weeping rates and mass transfers was conducted between the widely used V1-type float valve trays and the combined directed valve tray. The applications of the combined directed valve tray in atmospheric pressure device, catalytic cracking unit and gas fractionation device were also listed, which indicated that it was a significant improvement of float valve tray.

Linear guides are extensively employed in several industrial applications. Miniaturization, minimal friction, cost efficiency and low maintenance are the major challenges faced while developing a linear motion system. This paper presents design and realization of such systems, overcoming the aforementioned challenges. Linear guidance mechanisms, suitable for implementing latching in Refreshable Braille Displays are proposed, where uniform behavior under eccentric loading is required. Several low cost, reliable and efficient guide mechanisms with predetermined dimensional constraints have been designed. Seven mechanisms are illustrated and analyzed in this paper, which includes both, traditional contact-based mechanisms and compliant mechanisms that offer contact-less motion. The paper further compares the functionality, cost feasibility and ease of manufacturing and assembly of these mechanisms.

Abstract: Momordica charantia L. and Cucumis sativus L. are excellent fruit vegetables in nature having iron content, as an essential constituent required for good health of humans. The iron content of the vegetables may vary from place to place depending on the soil, rainfall and other climatic conditions prevailing in that place. It was thought necessary to find out whether the environmental conditions in the nine agro-climatic zones of Maharashtra have any impact on the iron content of these fruit vegetables. The fruit vegetables were collected from various places from nine agro-climatic zones of Maharashtra classified based on rainfall, soil type and the vegetation. It was found that fruits of Momordica charantia L. showed comparatively more nutraceutical content than the fruits of Cucumis sativus L. collected in same season. It was also observed that in the nine agro-climatic zones of Maharashtra studied, the fruits of Momordica charantia L collected from Karjat of North Konkan Coastal Zone showed maximum Iron content, while fruits collected from Igatpuri of Western Ghat Zone and Nashik of Western Maharashtra Plain (Transaction 2) zone showed minimum iron content. In case of Cucumis sativus L., fruits collected from Wardha of Central Vidarbha (Moderate rainfall) zone region showed maximum iron content, while fruits collected from Surgana of Sub-montane (Transition 1) Zone showed minimum iron content. Keywords: Nutraceuticals, Momordica charantia L., Cucumis sativus L. Environmental factors, Iron content, Agroclimatic zones of Maharashtra.

The optimal design and analysis of hot water actuated shape memory alloy spring is presented. Smart materials exhibit special properties that make them a preferred choice for industrial applications in many branches of engineering. The serviceable properties of a Ni-Ti piece can be improved by altering the energy source. With hot water actuation, as the temperature reaches 70 °C - 90 °C, spring gets fully compressed for the first few cycles followed by loss in actuation. The actuation loss is then studied with different characterisation methods such as thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). With SEM results, it can be strongly recommended that the energy source is sufficient for actuation (not affecting too much the structure). Results observed from TGA shows high oxygen content at lower temperature, suggest the need of conducting experiments in inert atmosphere. For the validation of hot water actuation, comparative analysis between electrical and hot water actuation is done. Graph shows that, there is a good agreement between both the methods. In addition to this, the application of hot water actuation is some micro-devices like micro-valve, drug delivery, directional control valve, also in engine in place of thermostat valve etc.

The industrial and utility sector perceives a shift in the paradigm of technology moving with at a very fast pace with the advent of applications like AC drives, FACTS devices, uninterruptible power supplies and many more. These applications are based on power electronics utilizing voltage source inverters (VSIs) dependent technology. The VSI based applications embodies some of the most pertinent and corroborated up gradation to cater the new challenges existing today. The essence of this paper is to draw attention towards benefits and limitations of using four switch three phase voltage source inverter (FSTPVSI) and present a comparative analysis based on technical, economical and performance parameters with six switch three phase voltage source inverter (SSTPVSI) for industrial applications. Finally, after visualizing the wide scope of research in the field of FSTPVSI, an effort has been made to simulate the both FSTPVSI & SSTPVSI using SIMULINK environment. Numerous design aspects based on technical and economic aspects demonstrate that by slightly modifying the pulse width modulation technique comparable results can be achieved from FSTPVSI topology.
