Introduction. Plants are a valuable source of biologically active compounds, including antioxidants, which could prevent the development of oxidative stress. The members of Rosaceae family such as Sorbus aucuparia L. and Cydonia oblonga Mill. are the examples of plants contained antioxidants. Aim. The aim of the study was to evaluate the antioxidant potential of leaves and fruits extracts of rowan and quince, taking into account influence of the extrahent as well as extraction method on this activity. Material and methods. The extracts were obtained by classic extraction methods – shaking and extraction in Soxhlet apparatus. Methanol, acetone as well as 70 and 96% (v/v) ethanol were used as solvents. Antioxidant activity was estimated by DPPH, FRAP, Folin-Ciocalteu (F-C) and ABTS methods. Results. The highest antioxidant activity was found in leaf extracts of both plants. In most cases, rowan extracts showed higher potential than appropriate extracts of quince. The most effective extraction method was extraction in Soxhlet apparatus using methanol (in case of rowan and quince) as well as 96% (v/v) ethanol (quince) and 70% (v/v) ethanol (rowan). The highest results were obtained with FRAP method, whereas the lowest – with DPPH. Conclusions. The presented in vitro results confirmed, that the leaves and fruits extracts of selected plants belonging to the Rosaceae family showed antioxidant activity and could be applied in various industry branches.

AbstractThe article presents research on the exploring of extraction process of biologically active substances from the leaves of the Moringa oleifera tree using ethanol. Ethanolic extracts were obtained using three different techniques: maceration with shaking, ultrasound-assisted extraction and extraction in Soxhlet apparatus, in different time variants: 1, 2 and 4-hours. After solvent evaporating and drying, the yields of dry extracts obtained in particular processes were calculated. The antioxidant activity of extracts was analyzed spectrophotometrically using DPPH radical scavenging method, and total phenolic content (TPC) was determined by Folin-Ciocalteu method. By means of gas chromatography with mass selective detector (GC-MS), 11 biologically active compounds present in ethanolic extracts were identified, among which α-tocopherol had the greatest share. Based on the results, the influence of the extraction technique and time on the yield and antioxidant activity of M. oleifera leaf extracts were discussed.

However, bean grains are subject to the phenomena of darkening and post-harvest hardening, which result in the loss of technological and sensorial quality, in addition to rejection of the product by most consumers. When the processes that result in these phenomena are not controlled, mechanisms of utilization of this grain are necessary to avoid its discard. An alternative to integral use comprises the fractionation of the components present in the grain to obtain several bioproducts with bioactive properties, such as the bioactive peptides. The aim of this work was to perform the protein extraction of common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) cv. BRSMG- cv. BRSMG-Madrepérola from different extraction methods and to verify the antioxidant activity of the protein extracts in vitro by FRAP and DPPH methods. The method that resulted in higher protein extraction was the alkaline extraction method (pH 8.0), 28.9 mg / mL for ETC beans. The highest antioxidant activity, verified by the FRAP method, was achieved in the extraction method which included the use of 20 mM sodium acetate pH 5.0. The “Hard-to-cook” phenomenon did not seem to affect definitively the bioactivity of the bioactive proteins obtained, suggesting that it is possible to use these components as an alternative for the use of the grains affected by the hardening process. Keywords: Hardening. The pyrazoline ring is defined as a “privileged structure” in medicinal chemistry. A variety of pharmacological properties of pyrazolines is associated with the nature and position of various substituents, which is especially evident in diarylpyrazolines. Compounds with a chalcone fragment show a wide range of biological properties as well as high reactivity which is primarily due to the presence of an α, β-unsaturated carbonyl system. At the same time, bicyclic monoterpenoids deserve special attention as a source of a key structural block or as one of the pharmacophore components of biologically active molecules. A series of new diarylpyrazoline derivatives based on isobornylchalcones with different substitutes (MeO, Hal, NO2, N(Me)2) was synthesized. Antioxidant properties of the obtained compounds were comparatively evaluated using in vitro model Fe2+/ascorbate-initiated lipid peroxidation in the substrate containing brain lipids of laboratory mice. It was demonstrated that the combination of the electron-donating group in the para-position of ring B and OH-group in the ring A in the structure of chalcone fragment provides significant antioxidant activity of synthesized diarylpyrazoline derivatives.

The development of targeted beverages is a priority for healthy eating. Plant raw materials containing a wide variety of biologically active substances are used for their production. The presence of these ingredients helps to improve many physiological processes in the body, as well as to increase its immune status. The high efficiency of ultrasonic effects on various technological processes was confirmed by numerous studies. Ultrasonic extraction was carried out at t = 20 ? and an ultrasonic wave frequency of 22 kHz. As a result of the research, it was found that the equilibrium state is achieved within 15 minutes with ultrasound exposure. Natural raw materials, their chemical composition and the influence on the human body were studied in the work to develop new beverages recipes. The selected ingredients in a certain quantitative ratio made it possible to obtain beverages with improved bio-corrective properties, which allows satisfying the daily requirement of the human body for biologically active substances. Ultrasonic exposure has a positive effect on the organoleptic characteristics of the beverage and the aftertaste, as proved by the comparative organoleptic evaluation of the samples. The functional properties of the beverages developed were confirmed experimentally. The following was determined in the beverages: macronutrients content, antioxidant activity, vitamin C content, shelf life duration. The ultrasonic extraction method application in the technology of beverages manufacturing allows: to reduce the preparation time by half, to reduce the amount of raw materials by 15%, to increase the content of macronutrients by 45%, to increase the content of vitamin C by 35%, to increase the antioxidant activity by 45-50%, to increase storage stability by 50-60%, to improve organoleptic characteristics. The results obtained prove the intensifying effect of ultrasonic exposure in the production of functional beverages.

The effects of different types of solvents and extraction method were investigated to determine the presence of antioxidant contents and activity from the P. niruri plant. The aim of this study is to determine which extraction method will give higher natural antioxidant contents and antioxidant activity. The content of natural antioxidant and antioxidant activity were analysed by total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging activity assay. The results showed that extracts from a supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) method without the addition of modifier showed the highest content of total phenolic (187.66 mg GAE/ g) and flavonoid (1100.93 mg QE/g) in P. niruri compared to the other methods of extraction with different type of solvents. The extract of P. niruri from different extraction methods showed antioxidant activity on DPPH radical scavenging assay. The soxhlet extraction method by methanol showed the lowest IC50 compared to the other methods of extraction. The results revealed that P. niruri extracts had different content of antioxidant and antioxidant activity. The solvent polarity and different methods of extraction play significant roles in determining the most suitable method for production of antioxidant contents and antioxidant activity from P. niruri extracts.
