A child’s personality and behaviour has always been a reflection of his/her upbringing and the values that the parents have given him or her. Each parent has their own way to deal with their children. Parenting style has often seem to affect a child’s personality traits like persistence, trust, forgiveness, or attributes like self-efficacy, identity formation, or behaviour like aggressiveness, etc. To further explore the role of parenting style, this study aims to see its role in determining self-esteem and loneliness. To fulfill this purpose, a sample of 100 undergraduate students was drawn from Delhi University, and parenting style, self-esteem and loneliness were measured. The findings revealed a positive relationship between parenting styles and loneliness and a negative relationship between parenting styles and self-esteem.

Objectives: Giving the growing population of the elderly, it is important to pay attention to their psychological health. The purpose of this study was to examine the role of self-compassion in predicting loneliness and self-efficacy in the elderly. Methods & Materials: This is a descriptive correlational study. Study population consisted of all elderly residents of Gonbad Kavous County in Iran. Of these, 120 (70 women and 50 men) were selected using a convenience sampling technique. Data collection instruments were University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Loneliness Scale of Russell et al. (1966), General Self-efficacy Scale of Scherer et al. (1982) and Self-Compassion Scale of Neff (2003). Data analysis was performed by using Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. Results: Loneliness had a significant negative relationship with self-compassion dimensions of self-kindness, common humanity, mindfulness and its overall score, and a significant positive relationship with self-judgment, isolation and over-identification. Moreover, self-efficacy had a significant positive relationship with self-kindness, common humanity, mindfulness and overall self-compassion score, and a negative significant relationship with self-judgment, isolation and over-identification (P≤0.001). Self-kindness, self-judgment, common humanity, isolation, mindfulness and overall self-compassion score can predict 43% of loneliness variance and self-kindness, self-judgment, mindfulness, isolation and overall self-compassion score can predict 38% of self-efficacy variance. Conclusion: Self-compassion have an effective role in reducing loneliness and increasing self-efficacy in the elderly.

In this study, variables predicting the five-factor personality traits of adolescents were examined. These variables are cognitive flexibility, social self-efficacy, and cognitive errors. Research on middle and high school students from 7th.8th.9th.10th.11th.and 12th grades, a total of 441 students, participated to the study. In the study, the Five Factor Personality Inventory, Social Self Efficacy Scale, Cognitive Flexibility Scale and Cognitive Errors Questionnaire were used. The findings of the study show that significant predictied variables for five personality traits are cognitive flexibility, social self-efficacy and cognitive errors. As a result, positive relationship between social self-efficacy and extraversion, aggreeablesness, and openness to experiences personality traits were emerged. It was determined that there was a positive relationship between self-control personality traits and cognitive flexibility, and a negative relationship cognitive flexibility with neuroticism. However, results showed that over-generalization error was commonly used by people who had self-control and neuroticism personality traits. Self-control and agreeablesness of the personality traits were used at the same time personalization errors.  It is determined that only individuals with agreeablesness trait seemed to made error of selective abstraction. Overall, It is seen that people who are cognitive flexibility are extraversion, agreeablesness, self-control and openness to experiences personality traits.  ÖzetBu çalışmada, ergenlerin beş faktör kişilik özelliklerini yordayan değişkenler incelenmeye çalışılmıştır.  Bu değişkenler bilişsel esneklik, sosyal yetkinlik ve bilişsel hatalardır. Araştırmaya 7.8.9.10.11.ve 12 sınıf öğrencileri olmak üzere toplam 441 öğrenci katılmıştır. Araştırmada beş faktör kişilik envanteri, bilişsel esneklik ölçeği, bilişsel hatalar ölçeği ve sosyal yetkinlik beklentisi ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonunda elde edilen bulgular, beş faktör kişilik özelliklerine anlamlı olarak etkiedendeğişkenlerin, bilişsel esneklik, bilişsel hatalar ve sosyal yetkinlik beklentisi olduğunu göstermektedir. Sonuç olarak, dışadönüklük, yumuşakbaşlılık, ve gelişime açıklık kişilik özellikleri ile sosyal yetkinlik arasında pozitif bir ilişki olduğu görülmektedir. Bilişsel esneklik ile özdenetim kişilik özelliği arasında pozitif, nevrotizm ile negatif bir ilişki olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bununla birlikte aşırı genelleme hatasının özdenetim ve nevrotizm kişilik özelliklerine sahip kişiler tarafından daha çok kullanıldığı, özdenetim kişilik özelliğine sahip kişilerin ve yumuşakbaşlılık kişilik özelliğine sahip kişilerin aynı zamanda kişiselleştirme hatalarını da kullandıkları saptanmıştır. Sadece yumuşakbaşlılık kişilik özelliğine sahip bireylerin seçici soyutlama hatasını yaptıkları belirlenmiştir.

Abstract Background Although the context of parenting has been incorporated into psychosocial pain research, very little attention has been paid to how parenting styles influence chronic pain in adolescents. The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role of self-esteem, emotional intelligence, and psychological distress in the association between parenting styles and chronic pain. Method Seven hundred and thirty nine adolescents and their parents participated in this study. To identify adolescents with chronic pain, screening questions based on the 11th revision of the International Classification of Diseases were used. Baumrind parenting style questionnaire was used to assess the parenting style (permissive, authoritarian, and authoritative parenting styles). The structural equation modelling (SEM) was carried out in M-Plus version 6 to evaluate the direct, indirect, and total effects of different parenting styles on chronic pain. Results The results in the SEM models revealed that only the indirect paths from authoritative and authoritarian parenting styles to pain through emotional intelligence (βauthoritative = − 0.003, 95% CI = − 0.008 to − 0.003; βauthoritarian = 0.001, 95% CI = 0.001 to 0.003) and psychological distress (βauthoritative = − 0.010, 95% CI = − 0.021 to − 0.004; βauthoritarian = 0.008, 95% CI = 0.004 to 0.016) were significant. Indirect paths from permissive style to pain and the mediating role of self-esteem were not significant. Discussion Emotional intelligence and psychological distress significantly mediated the effects of authoritative and authoritarian parenting styles on chronic pain. The current results support the notion that interventions targeting effective parent–adolescent communication may be an important part of chronic pain management in adolescents. Moreover, the results provide rationale for targeting emotional intelligence and psychological distress in adolescents by explicitly teaching effective communication skills, expressing opinions and minds, and emotion regulation strategies.

This study aims to investigate the impact of parental career behaviors on undergraduate student’s career exploration and the mediating role of career self-efficacy. In the literature it is suggested that some social and individual factors facilitate students’ career exploration. Therefore, parental career behaviors and career self-efficacy is considered as predictors of student’s career exploration attitudes within the scope of the study. In this respect, data which are collected from 405 undergraduate students having an education on tourism and hotel management field by the survey method are analyzed by using the structural equation modeling. The results of the study indicate that parental career behaviors which are addressed support; interference and lack of engagement have a significant effect on student’s career exploration behaviors such as intended-systematic exploration, environment exploration and self-exploration. In addition, it has been found that one of the dimensions of parental career behaviors addressed as a lack of engagement has a significant effect on career self-efficacy levels of students. However, research results indicate that student’s career self-efficacy has a significant effect on only the self-exploration dimension. On the other hand, career self-efficacy has a partial mediating role between lack of engagement attitudes of parents and career exploration behaviors of students.

The 2 types of exchange relationship perceptions—social exchange relationship perceptions (SERPs) and economic exchange relationship perceptions (EERPs)—constitute the primary concept for understanding individual behavior in the workplace. Using a sample of 581 employees from Mainland China, I explored the effects of SERPs and EERPs on employee extrarole behavior (ERB), as well as the moderating effect of organization-based self-esteem (OBSE) on the relationships between SERPs and ERB, and between EERPs and ERB. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between SERPs and ERB, a significant negative relationship between EERPs and ERB, and a significant moderating effect for OBSE. Theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.
