The sample consisted of (266) teachers where (211) teachers from the first cycle and (55) teachers from the second cycle of basic education schools in the province of Muscat. After statistical processing using averages, frequencies and tests, the results of the study showed that the teachers’ use of authentic evaluation strategies and tools in both the first and second cycles in the basic education schools was high. The results showed that the strategies of self-evaluation and peer evaluation are the most widely used by the teachers. The strategy of evaluating the performance by the concept's maps obtained the least degree of use although it has a high level. The results also showed that there are statistically significant differences in the degree of practice the authentic evaluation strategies and these differences are in favor of the teachers who have an experience of more than ten years. The results showed no statistically significant differences among the teachers of both the first and second cycles in the practice of authentic evaluation strategies and tools. Consequently, the researcher recommended directing the institutions that are responsible for the preparation of new teachers to add training programs on authentic evaluation strategies and tools. The researcher also recommended conducting studies on the difficulties faced by teachers on the practice of all authentic evaluation strategies and tools in a balanced manner.

A common call heard today is that we want “reflective teachers” who have the skills and expetiences necessary to engage in a high-level examination of teaching. Indeed, the authors of the NCTM's Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics (Professional Teaching Standards), published in 1991, recommend that teachers assume more of the responsibility for both self-evaluation and peer evaluation.

The study used the descriptive analytical approach. The sample of the study consisted of 367 students and it was selected in a stratified random method. A questionnaire was developed to answer the research questions. The results of the study showed that the reasons related to the subjects of physics and to the science teachers have a high level of influence in the reluctance of students to choose physics.  The results showed statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α = 0.05) in the axis of the reasons related to physics subjects in favor of female students and differences in the axis of the reasons related to the students themselves. Consequently, the researcher recommended analyzing the subjects and the curricula of physics by specialists in the fields of education and science and redesigns them in accordance with the scientific development and levels of students according to international standards. Examining pre-service teachers’ attitudes and beliefs related to teaching allow teacher preparation programs to evaluate their effectiveness on beliefs and attitudes. This correlational research investigated pre-service elementary science and mathematics teachers’ beliefs and attitudes due to gender, grade level, and department, and revealed the reliable correlation between beliefs and attitudes performing partial correlation. Results show that females feel more efficacious in teaching and have more positive attitudes than males. 4th grades also perceive a higher level of efficacy for student engagement and using instructional strategies than 1st grades. Partial correlation coefficients revealed positive strong relationships between attitudes and efficacy beliefs. Recommendations are suggested based on implications.
